Makes one's blood go cold. A few weeks ago my grandchildren were playing with a two-year-old elephant in a hotel in Phuket!

A family member has just flown into BKK, no problem. Stay away from the actual trouble and you'll be fine.

BBC in UK has just shown a tank backing away from a demonstrator.Demonstrator was wearing a blue shirt, but appeared to be with others in red. Couldn't tell where it was.
Also said the the Foreign Office advice was for Brits to stay indoors. Standard sort of stuff.

According to FlightTracker the midday plane has left Heathrow. I'm sure they wouldn't go if there was a problem.

To Travel2003. Thanks. My son's flying back to BKK from London this afternoon. According to airport info the plane's still due to depart on time. Obviously a worry, but he's booked the flight and wants to get back to his wife & children!
However, we're watching this site from UK and hoping it all calms down tonight!

Anyone know what the situation is at the airport

As long as the US Fed keeps dropping the intrest rate the Dollar will keep going down. It has always done that and will keep doing it. Maybe next year after the elections HOPE SO ANYWAY.
Current quote is 10 GBP = 585.8 TBhT.
Poorest rate for the GBp for ages. As we're going to LOS soon, glad we bought a load of Baht a while ago.

I'm wondering whether it is possible to buy prescription medicines in bangkok without doctor papers? The medicines I'm looking are Roaccutane, lipitor, clobazam and temazepam.
Regards.
Lipitor I'm sure I've seen.
Ro-accutane should only be taken if regular qualified reviews are available, as it can seriously damage the liver.
Clobazam and temazepam are addictive.

Ko Samed is 40 for Thai 400 for falang. thieves.
Now 200 for farang.
If you stay on the island is it 200 per day or per stay?

Couldn't see a mention of or reference to, Koh Samet. When there earlier this year we were told to pay 400TB, but that it would last us for the five days we were there.

You plan on doing the travel rather than your sons family in the future so will be spending more time in Thailand. The airlines normally do check but if you have a return ticket within 30 days there is not a problem and probably some don't pay too much attention to the dates. But many of us can assure you that some airlines from some locations are very careful.
The 30 day visa exempt entry can not be used for more than 90 days in a six month period now. So if you think you will be spending more time than that here it would probably be good to obtain the multi entry non immigrant O visas. It also makes airline happy and shortens the day count at immigration.
90 days in any six month period. Thanks again. We've always got return or onward tickets so far, although sometimes they've been over the 30 days. Wonder if it's because we travel as a couple, rather than as a single late-middle-aged male. It was when we got we got separated at immigration that the official checked my dates so thoroughly.
I'm looking forward to spending more time in Thailand!

Not sure why you would want to obtain a multi entry visa for one or two trips a year or how airfares would enter into the decision. What you need to be aware of is that the 30 day entry you now use requires a ticket out within 30 days or airline my refuse your carriage. You can always obtain a tourist visa for up to 60 day stays (or 90 days with extension). Unless you are making frequent trips do not believe a multi entry would be better. The non immigrant visa entry allows a 90 day stay and you could exit/return to obtain another it that is in the cards (and in that case it would make sense).
Lopburi3; Thanks.
Never yet had an airline ask for proof of departure plans, although the official at BKK the last but one time counted up my days spent in the Kingdom VERY carefully!
I've heard somewhere that there's a maximum stay in 12 months on repeated 30 day visas. Anyone any idea what that it is, and is it a rolling limit, or in any calendar year? We are highly unlikely to come over again in 2007.
Airfares enter into the decision because although our son brings his wife and children over to the UK at the moment reasonably cheaply before long he will be looking at 2 adult & 2 child fares!

We (wife & I, both retired) are resident in the UK, but have grandchildren in Thailand. We go over a few times a year to visit them, sometimes for a few days, sometimes for longer. So far we've always just turned up at BKK airport, had our passports stamped for 30 days and, if we planned or expected to stay for longer, either did a visa run or took a few days trip to a neighbouring country.
Do I gather that we might now be better off getting a multiple entry visa? Especially as the children are getting older and their plane tickets for the family more expensive! If so, how long can we stay in Thailand each time, and how many trips can we make a year?

In the past twelve months my wife and I(both ethnic Brits) have
Arrived in Thailand on 29th Dec and left on 11th Jan
Ariived in Thailand on 9th Feb and left on 13th Feb
Now we're planning to arrive again in Thailand on 24th August, go off on 16th Sept (for a few days only) and
Return to Thailand on 21st Sept, leaving again on 11th October.
In view of all this, are we likely to have any problems with Immigration, and if so what should we do about it?

So, has anything changed regarding visa runs if one only wants a 40-50 day stay? Reason for asking; I'm going to Thailand in August for 6 weeks, and am planning to take a three or four day trip to Singapore in the middle of that time. I assume that my 30 days starts again from the time I come back.
I dont think, although I'm not absolutely sure, that I'll be back in Thailand for another five or six months.
In and out of Thailand. Visa advice please.

My wife and I, both in our 70's want to visit Thailand this autumn and, for family reasons, stay for about 35 days. Apart from a quick overland trip to Cambodia, what's the most economical way of doing this? Advice would be appreciated!. We normally visit The Kingdom once a year for 30 days.
