  1. This thread is about "supporting Thai wife" extension of stay. Requirements for that category do not include a medical or criminal records check. You appear to be talking about a retirement extension of stay "proof of recidence from my home country for the both of us".

Sorry if I was unclear about this.My reason for getting the visa is in fact based on my 10-year marriage with my THAI wife, married in LOS !! That`s the reason for the confusion on my behalf...even after reading and understanding the rules and bringing the required documents, the immigration office(s) in Phuket keeps telling me the things as I stated in my post above :o !!

  2. I also got told different things than the official rules when trying to get the "O"-visa in Phuket last autumn/this winter. Was told to get proof of recidence from my home country for the both of us,a proof from my embassy that we still are married....and that I don`t have any criminal record back home !!

The "funny" thing was when I asked about the rules regarding proof of income,I got the reply "...no problem, not so important " :o !! The most frustrating thing about the whole process is that there is a total lack of concistency regarding the rules, when I read them here on TV or on other MB`s it seems straightforward, but when you (politely and well dressed) enters the immigration office you get different answers for each time !!

They didn`t require a med certificate in Phuket, but in december I went up to Laos for a visa, and the very helpfull immigration-officer at Nong Khai said I needed one there if I was goona get the "O"-visa.

  3. There is also a good tattoo-shop on the left side of the entry to Soi Easy in Bangla Rd. There is no problems with hygiene if you go a recomended tattoo shop....the problems with infections etc. is mostly because of that people don`t take the recomended precausions the first week after they have a tattoo made...cleaning,don`t expose it to the sun, stay out of the (dirty) water !!

The conditions for a real serious infection in LOS is unfortunately there, but with the right precautions (HYGIENE,HYGIENE,HYGIENE) a tattoo in LOS is no problem at all :o !!

  4. Police clearance is required by Consulates for visas issued for teaching or retirement.

Beeing married to a Thai for 8-years I asked the very helpfull immigration office at Nong Khai (before I ventured into Laos for a 3 month visa in december)the requirement for a 1 year visa was...original marriage certificate, proof of required monthly income and wifeys original ID-card.

Coming back to Phuket immigration in Patong I was shocked to hear that they also needed a confirmation from your country of recidence that you still are married there and that you also need a police clearance from your home Country :o !!

  5. Hat Yai rocked with explosions, at least seven killed

HAT YAI: -- Four coordinate bomb attacks were launched in this tourist southern town Sunday night, killing at least seven people.

The first explosion happened in front of the Thongsia Siang Tueng Foundation at about 9 pm, police said. Seven people were killed at the spot.

Then two other explosions occurred at Big C Department Store and a pub on Burapha Withi Road.

Shortly afterwards, another explosion occurred at Lotus Superstore and Lee Garden Hotel.

The headline says seven killed...the story says that seven people are severly INJURED :o !!!
