  1. I've had TOT ADSL for 4 months, but it sucked.

It was impossible to know if the connection was okey or not. Very unreliable.

I've decided to try GPRS, I had a prepaid card form DTAC,

so I travelled down to DTAC service center in Surat.

I chose this monthly package: 50 hours of data traffic for 199 baht+ 99 baht in ordinary phonecalls.

I will receive a monthly bill for 298 baht if I'm careful.

If my hours are finished before the end of the month, I will get billed 0,5 Baht/minute.

It suits me well, and the connection is reliable with a speed of 30-40kbps.

Not good enough if you are downloading a lot of stuff,

but okey if you are using the net for e-mail and this forum :o .

By the way, I'm using a Motorola V3i and bluetooth. It works perfect. No problem!

    Good luck.

  2. I'm a norwegian and english is not a problem for me, german is also ok. But thai is very difficult. Maybe I'm tone deaf because I find it extremely difficult to hear the difference between an egg and a di.. . I've been married for almost 5 years and have lived here for 8 months. I've tried to learn thai and I pick up some words every day (or maybe every week?) But I find it hard. I can make myself understood in some settings . My hope is to understand thai roughly and be able to speak it, in maybe 2 or 3 years.

But speak thai fluent ? In my dreams maybe :o

By the way, even many thais speak thai poorly and many of them read and write slowly. :D

  3. Does anyone here know of any options I may have to get internet access in Pakret? TOT is seriously pissing me off by delaying installation saying too many at my condo already have it, the new manager has to approve some b.s. proposal blah blah etc. True isn't allowed to operate in the area either. Right now I pay some guy in the adjacent building who has some dodgy TOT connection with wifi that he sells to neighbors but of course is horribly unreliable and painfully slow. Is there any other options for me?

Have you checked with AIS or DTAC? If GPRS is fast enough....

  4. When my wife started a combined savings and insurance account for herself and her children I thought it would be wise for me to ask for a savings account at the same time. They took a copy of my passport and asked for my present address here in Thailand. No problemo. I also got a Mastercard for electronic use only. This was in 2005, in the local Siam Commercial Bank.

I haven't had a bad experience with the immigration or the police either. :o

It seems that Bankgok sucks and the good easy life is in the countryside.

  5. Do any of you know a good dentist in Nakorn Sri Thammarat.

Sorry, I can't help you CPH, but I also need a dentist soon, So if any of you know of a good dentist in the Surat Thani area or must we drive down to Phuket ? :o

  6. Just put on that CD "What's Love got to do, gotta do with it?

What's love gotta do gotta do with it? IT"S A SECOND HAND EMOTION.....etc.

Farangs want SEX and Thai Women want MONEY!

    Get Real........

Do you know someone who doesn't want sex or money? :o

  7. I met my thai wife in Oslo, Norway almost 5 years ago, she was visiting her sister. It just "clicked" when we met, she couldn't speak any english and I couldn't speak any thai so it was difficult in the beginning, but love and the good feeling doesn't need many words. After 4 years in Norway we are now living in southern Thailand. We are doing great so it seems that we also won in the lottery. :o

  8. Cable/Satellite broadcast the same over and over again. if you have seen Discovery a year or two you can take a break for at least five years. And the most of the news are about famous people with or without silicone. Boooooring. :D

Listen to some music instead, and use the internet to find the real news. :o

  9. I am just completing a house I have built in Nakhon Si Thammarat area. It is about 30minutes south of Nakhon Si Thammarat. Not far fron Ron Phibun. I will be returning at the end of June and need to buy a fitted kitchen including appliances. Does anyone have any advice or contacts. I know about SB Furniture but are there any alternatives as I have a limited budget as I also need to buy a car. Up till now I have been renting. I have been visiting the area for 2 years now but as yet have made no Farang freinds probably due to the fact that I seem to get monopolised by the girlfreinds family. However when the house is complete and I start to live there I can see me going stir crazy so if thee are any Brits out there with an interest in soccer I would be pleased to here from you.

Opps, I'm trying once more (my TOT adsl line is a mess) try Home Pro, I bought some stuff at Home Pro (in the Lotus Superstore building) in Surat Thani and used a local handyman (someone in my wife's family) :o I'm not british but I watch a lot of english soccer at ch. 3 and 7., the thais are crazy about Liverpool, Chelsea and Man U. you know.

  10. I have a windows XP machine and a lot of pictures in JPG format on an external hard drive, and I'm interested in buying an Apple Imac. Will the Mac accept the external hard drive (It's formatted in NTFS) or must I use an USB memory stick (Formatted FAT) and transfer the pictures with this ? I would be grateful of any tips regarding MAC and Windows

    Thank You
