As I understand it, if a marriage between a Thai and a foreigner was done in UK and both are now living apart and want to divorce in Thailand, and if the marriage was never registered in Thailand, then Thai courts can hear the case under something called 'harmonisation of law".
Anyone know what this is? I asked one of the sponsor firms for TV and got 3 completely different and mutually exclusive answers in 3 consecutive minutes. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by incompetence, after all, TiT and incompetence is both a national pastime and a badge of honour, but there is a limit to all things and I would have expected lawyers (even Thai lawyers) to actually KNOW something about what the Thai law is. Silly me.
Can anyone explain what this harmonisation of law is and how a divorce under the conditions described is likely to proceed
Kev
You marry in the UK and you must divorce in the UK
thai court will not do this

Hi,
My wife has entered Thailand on her Australian Passport.
She has 30 days, as normal.
She wishes to stay for at least another 2 weeks.
She is in Surin (Issan)
Where is there a close immigration office?
How many days extension would she get?
How often can she get this extension?
Does her being a Thai have any influence?
Thanks good people..
Colin
The closest immigration office from SURIN is KAP CHEUNG , only 90 km

I have an Israeli passport ( Israeli passport one from 41 countries have the same law for Thailand visiting , as most European passports http://www.mfa.go.th/web/2482.php?id=2490 ) , and now I am in Russia, at the Embassy of Thailand in Russia I can not get tourist visa (idiotic rules). Now the issue. If I lie down in Bangkok, I will be have permit to be in Thailand for 30 days (Arrival stamp ). But I want be in Thailand for 2-3 months.
If I am within 30 days will go to Laos ( Vientiane ) for a Thailand tourist visa ( 2 month visa ) , and can I get a Thailand tourist visa in Laos? If yes, and that I need for to get Thailand tourist visa in Laos (my return ticket just for 14 days, I need new ? ) ? Thank you very much .
What "idiotic rules" you mean ??? Maybe you are the ....What about the visa rules in your home country ???

I have just received my receipt from Kap Cheong. When I phoned after 10 days or so, they said they had not received it. I knew they had because of the trace I put on it with Thai post. Maybe by phoning, they felt prompted to send me a return slip. However, they wrote on the envelope "Next time you must come here." So, it does appear they are not keen on accepting it by mail.
Same for me
10 days before I send my 90 day report by mail to KAP CHEUNG, they send it back
with the same notice
" Next time you must come here"

The worst example I have seen personally there was not English, he was driving a big bike, swigging booze in a brown paper bag as soon as he got off the bike and before crawling into a bar for more booze. Real lowlife
I am not disagreeing with you bumbui, but only not saying the problem is solely English thugs. You only have to go to Pattaya or read Pattaya Press to see many nationalities cause trouble.
Dave
DAVE the worst example I have seen is a english guy his name is YOGI

The BURIRAM-BARS are not the Problem but the drunken english people inside are the problem

I have girlfriends that I sleep with but a lot of the time I don't give them any money. As soon as the demands for money crop up, I have to dump them. Is this wrong? It's just that I'm not exactly rich. I feel I'm a deadbeat.
Why a girl should be together with you if not for money ???
because you from the usa or for what , everything you make a young thai man
can do better then you, so pay your money and stop ask stupid questions
-
On the TM8 Form it says "Application must be made in person"
Tx a lot. Just what I feared. Such a hassle to have to do this at Suan Plu instead of at the airport. Quite unbeleivably poor service.
Is the service for foreigner better in your home country ???
This is Thailand you have to accept the rules , if not leave the country

i'm told on the retirement visa, we have to "report" every 90 days. the lady at immigration told me that reporting period is from 7 days prior, up to the 90th day. she said if i report after the 90th day, there is a 2,000 baht fine. but she couldn't answer the question of how many days after the 90th day, am i permitted to do the reporting. can i report a month later, and simply pay a 2,000 baht fine? the whole point of this visa for me is to be able to come and go on my schedule, rather than on their schedule.
also, when does the 90 days to report actually start: like if i leave thailand for five weeks, and i return, does the 90 day ticker start when i reenter thailand each time?
thanks!!
The clock starts again when you return. You have 7 days either side of the report date. So 7 days before, up to 7 days after. The fine is 2,000 Baht. But can be 5,000 Baht plus 200 Bht for every day you are late if you get taken to court.
From the Immigration Website.
The foreigner makes the notification in person, or
The foreigner authorises another person to make the notification, or
The foreigner makes the notification by registered mail.
The notification must be made within 7 days before or after the period of 90 days expires.
The first application for extension of stay by the foreigner is equivalent to the notification of staying in the Kingdom over 90 days.
KAP CHEUNG IMMIGRATION OFFICE ONLY ACCEPT The foreigner makes the notification in person !!!!! NO MORE NOTIFICATION BY MAIL !!!!

I thought that I had an understanding of the Thai Immigration system and its requirements after being here now for a couple of years but it seems not and I wonder if someone can answer the following questions:
I am on a retirement visa and have just renewed my annual at Kap Choeng. I previously had a multi entry visa which cost 3800B but this year I was told that it is no longer available and I had to have the standard visa at 1900B? If I want to leave the country to visit another country, say Cambodia or Lao, do I have to apply to an immigration office requesting permission to leave or can I do that at a border post on leaving?
If you are married I understood that you can apply or reapply having either 400,000B in a Thai bank for three months or more or a monthly pension of 65,000B. (Yesterday I was informed that if you are married then you only need a monthly pension of 40,000B?) If you are single then I understood you required 800,000B or a pension of 65,000B a month. Yet now I am told that the Thai Immigration Authorities want both the required level of savings and a monthly pension? Why and how can they change the requirements to suit their mood?
When you have been here for a couple of years then the chances are that you have built a house for your wife/girlfriend and are in the process of supporting her (and her extended family). You pay for the electricity, water, telephone, two mobile telephones, UBC, household bills, medical bills, feeding and clothing her and any other expense that may have arisen since you met. You have probably bought a car (or two) and a motorbike. Are paying for her motorbike and any other hire purchase agreements that she (or her family) may of entered into without a hope in hel_l of paying off. All in all you have probably made a substantial financial investment in Thailand.
So why are we always made to feel like second class citizens when reporting to Thai Immigration? When you arrive they speak to you with disdain and as if you are a criminal reporting to your probation officer. If you dare to arrive without all of the necessary documention in the exact provision to support your stay you are chastised and spoken to like a schoolchild.
When we went last week I had a letter from one bank stating that I had 665,689B in my account and a statement from another bank stating that I had over one million Baht in a long term savings account. Unfortunately however the statement, run off 5 days earlier, only ran up until February and now we were in March! They asked me for my bank books, which I had made the mistake of not taking for the first time, and then made me drive the four hour round trip back home and back to the Immigration office so that they could see that I had the required funds to allow me to stay.
What happens if they decide that you do not have the necessary financial clout? What happens to the house that you have paid to have built but can never own? Who pays for the electricity, water, telephones, UBC, food, household, medical bills then?
I had also committed the heinous crime of overstaying by one day. The Immigration Officer was in her element when she discovered that and spoke to and looked at me as if I had insulted her family. She then made me pay the 500B fine and had me sign as an Alleged Offender in her little book for naughty boys.
I do wish that Thailand would wake up to the fact that people like me pay an awful lot of money to stay in Thailand. I love Thailand and its people. I have a great respect for your King and Buddha and hope that I can stay here paying my way for many years to come. I just wish that I was appreciated more by the Thai authorities and was treated with the same respect that is demanded by them.
I never had problem with the immigratrion office KAP CHEUNG, very friendly an helpfull staff, the problem must be YOU

Can I go from surin with bus to the Kap Cheung immigration office
any timetable avaible ?
are there any other service avaible ?
-
Hi
The nearest border to Surin is Chong Chom. Highway 214 through Presat and keep going. It should take about 3/4 hour in a car.
I believe e-visa's are only available if entering Cambodia via Air.
Dave
And you must take 1 photo with you , if not it will coast you an extra 100 baht , the visa is 1300 baht for in and out cambodia

According to my wife, 2 teachers on a local school near me, were reported to have had sex with a 12 year old student.
The first teacher was an "older" guy, while the second was younger and wanted to marry the girl.
The parents didn't want to marry the girl to the younger guy, but instead wanted/wants 350.000,- baht, from him.
They let the older teacher "off the hook"?, 'cause when they asked the girl why she had had sex with him................................she replied...........................she was horny.
Is this typical Isaan ....................................or just TIT?
what a stupid question !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder about 90 day reports. In the past Bangkok accept postal reports from around the country.

2-3 weeks before will be ok

Baan Kruat
in Isaan
Hi;I met my Tee-Ruck 3 weeks ago and she has invited me to her village for the Christmas and New Year week. I have only been in Bangkok for a short time so I really don't know what to expect. All I can find about Baan Kruat is in Wikipedia is there are 26 villages and nearly 10,000 people
She has a nice house made from what looks to be breeze-blocks and painted a nice white and blue. So I will have somewhere to sleep.
My question for anyone who may help me is there much to do in Baan Kruat, or should I pack a few good books?
Thank you for any replies.
take good care of your money , your 'TEE-RUCK' guckguck have invited you for big shopping tour, buy land, make house buy new tv for mother father
