  1. I tried the "AllowCORS" trick in Chrome but still couldn't get past the "Foreign National Header" error.

In MS Edge browser, I was getting to the end but repeatedly saw the API error there.

I then tried afresh in Edge, adding a space after my passport no, and...

    This email came immediately:

I also added my pp number to my vax cert, so fingers crossed for a quick approval. I hope to fly on the 8th.

  2. Prices are cheaper than ever just now, I just rented a new Yaris from Thai Rent-a-car, for two thousand and something THB for a week (375 per day - cheaper than a PCX!) Best prices and service from them. They have a range of vehicles. Their counter is just inside exit door "1" on the end of the CNX terminal, with cars outside fueled up and ready to go. You can check prices etc at rentalcars dot com which searches all the companies, but counter prices are often a bit cheaper.

  3. Hey folks!

I'm struggling to find an answer to this one, hopefully some of you knowledgeable lot have some input.

I'm from the UK, with Thai spouse.

We will soon be arriving in Bangkok for about 10 days, then taking a trip to Japan for a week, before returning to Thailand for 59 days.

If I now apply for a non-imm"O" with a single entry, can I ask the officer on the kiosk on my first arrival at Bangkok to NOT stamp that visa, and to let me have a "visa exempt" tourist stamp for my short stay?

(And then use my Non-O S.E. on my second arrival for my longer stay.)

I'd rather not have to pay £125 for a Multiple Entry O visa.

    ---OR---

Can I do the whole thing cheaply and easily on "visa exempt" tourist stamps, with a simple 1,900 Baht renewal at Chiang Mai Immigration office after 30 days of my longer visit?

    TL;DR:

    S E non-O, M E non-O, or tourist stamps?

    Many thanks in advance!

    :-)

  4. Thank for the replies. (I'm quite sure I put my details in correctly!)

I'm in the UK, I tried calling Thai's desk at London Heathrow, they could take the booking but it'd be about double the price!

I found some numbers for their Bangkok call centre, and the office at Swampy Airport, we tried calling them on Skype, but we were sent 'round in circles lost in automated systems.

I searched again for the number of the Thai office in the middle of town in Chiang Mai (053 code), we were connected straight through to a helpful lassie there who took the booking no problem using my UK credit card, emailing us the e-tickets.

The promotional price was still available, with just an additional 65 baht per person, so I'm happy with that.

In my experience of Thai, if you can talk to an actual person, they will fall over themselves to solve customers' problems... I once found a passport wallet of a passenger of theirs in a Soi across town, we called their desk late at night, and they sent out a member of staff to find us, then re-united it with its owner. Good service, eh?

  5. For the last 24 hours I've been trying and failing to buy flight tickets on Thai's website; it all looks good until submitting payment, then time after time I'm seeing this:

    The following error(s) occured
    • We have difficulty processing your payment. Please re-enter payment information and try again. (4686 - 9098)

Yes, I've tried different computers using different browsers, and several different (good) payment cards, and I'm still getting the same.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Are they having problems, or is it me?

  6. Maybe a long shot...

I need a knowledgeable mechanic to work on my Volvo 850 near Bang Bua Thong, Nonthaburi, or the NW side of Bangkok if possible. Can anyone advise me on how to find one?

No grease monkeys who are scared of European cars may apply. I want to avoid main dealers, also.

Many thanks. All hell will be let loose if you post names and numbers on here, but maybe you can pm me if you have that info? Cheers guys - getting desperate here!

  7. Have you found a good mechanic yet? I've only just seen this. I have a superb Volvo independent specialist for my car, he's worth his weight in gold. He's on the other side of town though, but worth the 15 min trip. I can't post details here, but pm me, and I'll send them on to you.

I need a man near Bangkok (Bang Bua Thong area if poss) - anyone know a good one?

  8. This week I was sipping a cool one on the buffets in Icon Square, ground floor, I noticed a little lady at a stall (not shop) just to the right.

She had bottles, tanks and cartridges on display. She was helpful, efficient, and offered prices I couldn't refuse:

200B for tanks and fitting kit for my Canon Pixma MP140

300B for the four 100ml bottles of ink

    75B each for extra inks

So I paid 650B for the full kit, three bottles of black, and three colours. WIN! That's the price of ONE cartridge in the UK!

I just hope I can make it work when we get back home...

  9. Thank you guys, that helps.

If we buy a condo, it won't be a new one, just an old 'shoe-box' type one for a relative. My wife would like it to be in my name if possible, so her family don't feel they can take the p*ss so much. Greng jai and all that.

We may buy a small 'townhouse' instead, in which case it would have to be in her name of course.

Yes, I do speak some Thai, understand conversation fairly well.

    Thanks again!

  10. For me to buy a condo in my name, am I required to show how the cash arrived in my Thai bank account?

It may be tricky to show the full amount coming from my UK account.

My Thai wife has accounts in her own name here and there, as do I, and we have joint accounts in both countries, so we have several options for transferring funds from the UK. We already have a plot of land (in her name), a condo (owned jointly), and so it would be good to have this new purchase in my name.

Also, am I ok to do this on a tourist visa? (I needed a non-imm to buy my car. (Sorry, wrong sub-forum to ask that I know.))

Thank you in advance, folks :)

  11. Thank you for the input, folks. Very encouraging.

    As I said:

my Thai wife has had the letter saying she'll be granted UK citizenship (yay!). Now she's waiting for the ceremony (two weeks away), then she can apply for a UK passport (another six weeks

So two months from now (end of Nov), I'm confident she'll have her UK pp back. We plan to leave for Thailand in December, then go to Oz for three weeks in January. So I'll go ahead and book the tickets online, if I'm asked for her pp number, I'll input her Thai one, as I'm pretty sure they'd only need it for identification purposes, and she'll be carrying both.

Re: visas, once she has her UK pp, it looks like we can apply online easy enough (eVisitor). We could even do that from Thailand.

    Thanks again!

    Joe

  12. Thanks for the reply Meatboy,

My wife will be carrying two valid passports, her Thai one which she already has, and the UK one we're waiting for.

I want to book tickets now, but I don't want to be changing the passport number on the tickets.

    My question is this:

Will the airport staff allow her to fly on a ticket issued to her Thai passport number, when the entry to Australia will be with her new UK passport?

(The flights to Thailand will be no problem - she'll use the Thai passport.)

  13. After waiting what feels like a lifetime, my Thai wife has had the letter saying she'll be granted UK citzenship (yay!). Now she's waiting for the ceremony (two weeks away), then she can apply for a UK passport (another six weeks plus).

We'd like to travel fly to Thailand, then on to Australia (and back) this winter, and ticket prices are rising by the week.

Can I book all the tickets now on her Thai passport number, even though she'll be using her UK passport for entry into Austalia, or must we wait until her UK pp comes back to book with that passport number?

Hopefully I've put this in the right section...

    Many thanks in advance!

  14. Sam Thanks for your offer, but today we have put a deposit on an E-350 spec Samsung in PINK.

The guy offering the 'E-550' had his wires crossed, so we continued the search. The E-350 is plenty for my wife and we found a good price. Sorted.

    Thanks again!

  15. Thank you Dingo and Steve. It would be simple to check the specs if every store had all the models in stock, but this shop, as with many, have a few on display but you have to wait for the one you want to be sent up-country.

Steve, it looks like you may be right, we have the guy's number so we'll quiz him carefully tomorrow.

That Philippine link hints that they have even more colour choice there... don't tell MrsKJ!

Oh, btw, googling Samsung E550, E450, and E350, I found those "Sound Bars"(?), mobile phones and these laptops; they have so many products they must be running out of product codes!

    Thanks again, I'll report back.

    Joe

  16. Hi All!

I'm looking for a "mini notebook" for my wife to use, we have narrowed down the search to a dual core Samsung Series 3, 11.6" screen, at about 13,000 B.

Two versions are widely available, the E-350 with a 320gb hard drive, and the E-450 with 4hundred-and-something gb.

However, one place (in a well-known electronics mall in Chiang Mai) has offered us an "E-550" with 500gb, otherwise the same spec, at a price comparable to the others, available at two day's notice, and in the colour she wants rolleyes.gif ... but I can't find this one anywhere on the internet. Am I being dumb or does it not exist?

May I admit right now that I find spec lists of computers baffling...

    Thanks in advance.
