  1. drank the water from those street machines for years and wondered about it but a bit of research turned up the fact that if these machines are operating well with good filters they might actually filter out too much, including the minerals and there is a chance it may be like the water you should put in a battery.. So its possible some of them could be too effective. Apparently drinking demineralised water day in day out can cause the body to leech the minerals of of your cells, which is not so good

  2. I've lived in The UK, Aus, Thailand and NZ. I always check supermarket receipts on principle as I believe they almost certainly put special prices on many items then omit to enter that price in the till. I have found that thailand was the one country where this very seldom happened to me. In the other countries particularly NZ this happens 1 in 3 trips to the supermarket. The error is never in the shoppers' favour. These powerful companies know all the tricks inc putting the exp items at eye level, regularly moving things around as they know that every minute they can keep you in there equals more $. The list goes on. Many of them will give you the item you have been overcharged for, free. But they also know that very few people actually go thru the receipt. Keep em honest and check your bill

  3. Just for the record Iam 27 years old and have no big pension nor do I have loads of money in the bank my thai friend knows this. So the suggestion from some that she is planning on marring etc is wrong Imo.

Thais do find it hard to believe we are not all wealthy. I used to say I'm a kiwi, the poor cousins of the western world, Not a rich American/European laugh.png You are just the right age for marriage with years of earning potential to come. She wouldnt take you home unless you were marriageable. Still, there is nothing to stop you walking away.

  4. been with my isaan lady for 11 years, married for 7. Brought her to NZ 5 years ago and she is well settled tho misses her family of course. I'd kill for her and die for her (to save her life that is) and trust her with my life and everything else.Totally loyal and loving. I've known one or 2 dodgy ones previously mind you. Trust your gut feelings and dont rush into anything is what I suggest

  5. Someone is spiining you a whopper.

All over the world these stories are told and that is all that they ever are, stories.

When I lived in England the urban ledgend was that people were being drugged in nightclubs and waking up in an ice bath minus a kidney.

Do you really believe that if this had happened no media sources would have picked up the story by now?

you didnt read about the case in china a few days ago then. I saw it on yahoo news and in printed form. I wish I could believe that people are'nt capable of such things, but sadly I know they are, and you would be naive to think that they are'nt I would say

  6. This is very disturbing stuff but shows that nothing is off limits when it comes to making money. My wife was talking to her family in northern Surin today and was told that a child was abducted from a local village and had their eyes taken a couple of days back. The poor child is still alive. Apparently this happened to another child in the area very recently. Also happened in China in the last few days. There was a case 2 or 3 years back where a couple were knocked of a motorbike in rural Surin(purposely it would seem) The wife was injured and the van driver offered to take her to hospital while the hubby followed on the bike. The van disappeared into the distance and it was a day or 2 before his wifes body was found at the site of the accident, minus her kidneys, and with a sum of money left with the body. I'm stunned by these terrible happenings. Obviously people need to be very vigilant with such sickness around these days

  7. I used BTYahoo until it was hacked. I had Gmail as a backup and changed it to primary. I do worry about Gmail being connected to G-everything-else though.

I kept the BT account empty as a backup, now they are scrapping Yahoo, who never admitted their vulnerability, so I might go back to them for mail I want to be more secure if the new service is good.

I rarely get spam or see ads in Gmail, poss due to AVG.

Why do you worry? Google Now is the key to the future. Personally I want Google's computers to know all about me. I have nothing to hide. Increasingly Google Now works out what I want to know, what I like, where I am going. In five years this technology will be an essential to everyday living. Sure there are some people who will want to go back to nature and the past but I want the future. I want Google to help me navigate my life. Those who accept the future and use it to their benefit will benefit enormously compared with those who try to opt out.

oh no another one of those "if you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to worry about" attitudes. Thing is, and we never learn from history is that human beings will invariably abuse power when too much of it is gained. The NZ govt spy agency broke the law for years by spying on kiwi's. So now they are changing the law to make it legal. What a f###ing surprise. The spying on our emails fone calls and everything else might not cause innocent people problems for a while but you can be sure sooner or later it will. And you can bet our children and grandchildren will be afraid to say anything that could be used against them by govts/employers/police. Our dumb/corrupt PM has even hinted there might be weapons of mass destruction here in NZ. Heard that one somewhere before. Of course he is just doing what a certain large powerful country is telling him to do

  8. I'll never forget being at the southern bus station years ago a seeing a little boy pissing quite high in the air and into one of those big woks full of oil for deep frying. All the thais thought it was funny and so did I but of course I didnt buy anything. Another thing that I always noticed was anytime I saw a food vendor from fortune town food centre in the toilets I would make a point of watching to see if they washed their hands. Yep, you guessed it. Never saw it happen. Still the only 2 times I got real sick was in a pretty decent joint on my 1st nite in BK after green curry, and years later at a moo krata place in ratchada.

Ate heaps of street food over the years. The thing that did my system in ie IBS was severe stress from a real tough live in care job in London for 5 months straight no day off 22hr day on duty. I was eating very healthy and simply at the time.

  9. I sincerely hope the NZ authorities are applying as much diplomatic pressure as possible against Sweden to get this man brought to justice. If they leave it to the Thai authorities it's unlikely anything will happen in a hurry.

The fact that a fellow Kiwi was killed in a foreign country should be irrelevant to the NZ Government - they should be acting on behalf the deceased NZ Citizen and his family and affording every conceivable assistance in bringing the fugitive to justice.

But knowing the wishy washy, namby pamby, socialist doo gooder, tree hugging, politically correct, "we need to get elected next year so just keep the seat warm, don't want to upset the Swedes 'cause it might hurt the lamb and cheese exports", kind of government that we have......this ain't going to happen any time soon.

Sometimes I wish we had a government like Israel or the US - send a couple of the SAS over there to bring him back to Thailand or NZ for justice, or dish it out summarily on the spot.

damn right. the tossers that control NZ dont give a toss about individuals. Only appeasing foreign govts and multinationals

  10. we have a despicable conman here in NZ that seems to do very well for himself and many people seem to like him even tho is incapable of being honest on any level. His name is john key. Beware of him, dont believe a word he says

  11. ooooh for a 5.3 pure luxury. lucky lucky bast###s cheesy.gif wouldnt even wake me up. Not when you're used to 7.1 and 6.3 and the other 12,000+ quakes here in christchurch which are still happening daily after 2.5 years . Got woken recently by a 3.5 but as it was only 3 km from my house and only 5 km deep the house took a huge jolt and made quite a noise

  12. you should come to new zealand. the only thing cheap here is your average workers' labour. often seen cabages, cauliflowers as high as $5 tiny heads of broccoli can be over $3. 600g box of cereal $5.50 upwards. Decent bread $4 or more. Petrol now $2.27 litre. My modest 3 small bedroom house $350k which is $20k less than the ave price in my city. Oh sorry I forgot, booze is always cheap or on special, so we can all get pissed and not think too much about how much everything else costs. And our milk, meat and cheese is usually cheaper in other countries than our own

  13. I read the whole story also and found it interesting. I have swum at various phuket beaches but only around the high season when the seas were way too calm for my liking and I always find it interesting to hear stories of how dangerous it gets at this time of year. I could probably get into trouble in these conditions tho I'm very respectful of the sea having drowned (in a rip at the bottom of NZ) and been revived as a 10 year old. I still remember the panic but also the calm acceptance and painlessness as I slipped away. Not a bad way to go at all, tho the panic beforehand is a bastard

  14. spotted a trial in NZ recently. Probiotics in the treatment of depression. I have read that, more and more medical science is thinking that our digestive system and gut bacteria is possibly the centre of the whole bodys health and wellness or otherwise. Doubtful tho that live yoghurt and drinks would have enough good bacteria to do much good. Capsules more likely to be effective
