  1. I filed 2020 returns by mail, because requested ITIN# for wife.

Fedex delivered my documents on 1 March to IRS TX office.

Received ITIN number for wife in June in the mail.

In July IRS returned her passport.

3rd week of September my refund showed: filing married jointly, but not processed yet (before it showed filing married separately based on 2019 return).

On 1 October my refund showed refund received, refund approved, 6 Oct direct deposit date.

On 6th October my US bank received my refund plus 27USD for late tax refund.

The refund included missing 1st stimulus payment for my son and child tax credit.

  2. I have found several cobras in my garden 7-920210622_183359.thumb.jpg.ab86fc6b5eefa6c928918e70f0140ce7.jpg years ago. They were always near dead frogs and near holes. I filled and continue to fill all holes in garden or at the edge of the building. I have blocked all holes under my sliding car gate from both sides and park cars outside my fence. I made sure that under the personal walk-in gate the gap is less than 0.3cm to the ground. I have walls around my garden at all sides. I put some mothballs around garden where my 2 dogs can not get too. I have found 5 yr ago a brown snake dead, near the mothball location and the mothball was gone. Probably thought it was an egg, swallowed it and died. I keep grass short, no bushes to hide, only trees. There are no cracks, cuts, edges, holes on my walls where a cobra would be able to climb. All outside doors, storage door have less than 0.3cm clearance above the ground.

I don't see any cobras in my garden the last 6 years. The neighbors have found some in their garden.

I have many frogs and small lizards in my garden, sometimes I see field mouse/rats, which is an indication that not much snake activity exists. I don't leave any food outside. I see regularly the green/yellow tree snake which can go up on any wall or tree, but they are not poisonous and are harmless, mostly eat bird eggs.

  3. 36 minutes ago, John Drake said:

Abroad, we are getting taxation without representation.

    Exactly.

I feel sorry for those who worked all their life in US, paid taxes, saved up and retired elsewhere and now are left on their own. Or for those who are still required to pay US taxes, because their worldwide income/ crypto/stock gains are over the yearly maximum deductible.

Most governments don't care about their citizens, you are treated as tax cattles.

  4. I filed 2020 returns by mail, because requested ITIN# for wife. Fedex delivered my documents on 1 March. ITIN number processing takes now 11-12 weeks. Then paper return processing another 2 months. Since I'm missing 1 st stimulus payment for my son and claimed child credit that takes additional time to verify. I gave them US bank account for tax refund direct deposit. Their mail usually takes a month to come back.  Calling IRS is useless. First have to hold 30-40 minutes to speak  to someone, then they only apologize 3 times that IRS is understaffed and need to wait and can not check any specific. I expect to hear from them in August or September.

  5. If you want your check to clear fast with BBL. Contact them daily after 2 weeks. Show your dissatisfaction on their FB pages.

My first stimulus check cleared in 13 days with BBL last year in June.

2nd I deposited via mobile banking to my US account and it was cleared in 3 days.

Third check ($2800) I deposited to BBL Silom HQ on 5 May and my funds were deposited to my BBL account on 27 May.

2 weeks after my  5th May deposit I started to call BBL every 2 days and sending them online banking messages. Some staff told me it takes 2-3 months to clear, I told them send the check back to me. Then they said it takes 1 month.  I told them first check cleared in 13 days and I would like someone explain the process in detail. They said someone will call me the next day. When no one called, I called again and demanded to talk to a manager in foreign wire dept. I posted my ratings and experience on their FB pages. BBL quickly called me on 24th May and told me that I will get my deposit on 27 May before 4 pm.  3:50 pm the deposit arrived. BBL called me at 5pm to make sure I saw that the deposit arrived as they have promised.

If you wait patiently they will use your money for 2-3 months interest free, before you get your funds.

  6. Thailand withdrawals and deposits were halted a long time ago by Everex. Same situation as of today.

They are closing Euro and GBP fiat gateways with Everex.cash wallet to be re-opened later with the new product. Better to stay away from them.

  7. I have deposited first $1200 check at BBL HQ Silom office. Fee about 460baht. Waited 1 month until amount showed on my account. Poor exchange rate.

Second $1200 check deposited via digital mobile application to my US bank account. No fee, amount available after 3 days.

I'm waiting on next checks 2 x $1,400 or direct deposit as I have indicated on my 2020 US tax returns my US bank account. If you transfer USD5,000 using app. like TransferWise, the transfer fee is USD4 (special promotion) and they will show exact exchange rates and fees before transaction from US bank to Thai bank account.

  8. I read those reports and guess what I went to my local amphur SSO office and HQ SSO and was told no longer can pay own social security without pink card. I showed them those reports and they said new government directive after covid to make it harder for foreigners to pay their own social security. I did not start posting to all other reports that they are wrong and should report the facts. I presented what was my experience. If your experience is different let it be. If you live in Thailand long enough you will know that for every report the opposite can be said many times over. Everyone should do their own homework. You based your judgement on other post, I based on my own experiences.

  9. In Thailand rules are flexible everywhere depending on each case and person and can vary daily. What I have stated is my experience. It may be incorrect to some and workable to others. During my first 12 years in Thailand, I did not have pink card and was perfectly fine without it. It is not necessity, but for some offer convenience. If any home owner willing to get yellow book for renter or friend it is possible. For own social security payment pink id card is mandatory. The point is too share experiences and let everyone decide for themselves if it is worth or not.

  10. First check arrived after a month it was mailed.

Deposited at Bkk Bank HQ Silom office (about 500 baht fee) and in a month they credit your account in baht.

Second check was mailed on 6 Jan, but still waiting to get it.

Last 13 years I have filed US taxes but no refund was due and they never added my US based bank account.

IRS stimulus website did not allow me to add my US bank account.

I usually file married filing separately and most online tax programs want wife ITIN or SS# to file if married.

This year I will file married jointly, but when requesting ITIN first time for Thai wife, need to file via paper.

Now I have son and can get child tax credit only of file married jointly. Also they owe $500 for first stimulus payment for my son. Now I'm waiting if I get $600 or $1200 (include my son) before filing 2020 taxes on paper.

You can claim tax refund if they missed/lost your 1st or 2nd stimulus checks and give them US based bank account for future deposits. Child tax credit $1400 refundable, if you qualify.

If democrats approve Biden new stimulus plan:

$300 monthly from July 2021 for a year for US child under age 6 for child tax credit deposited in US bank account. Their plan is to continue beyond 1 year. After 6 years of age $250 monthly.

$1400 direct payment for each child and adult US citizen.

There are many restrictions to get refundable child credit, ie: if you claim foreign earned income exclusion, you can not claim child tax credit. If you or your wife yearly income is 0, you can not claim credit. All might change again with new stimulus programs/laws.

  11. The US Embassy charges 30USD for the affirmation to get married. If you are divorced a second 1 page document need to be filled out for another 20USD. You can pay in USD cash or Thai baht or with credit card. You can make appointment online and can get this done in an hour.

The US Embassy lists several translators on their website near the Embassy. They charge 350/400baht per page and do the translation in an hour.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs have same day or 2 day 'regular' service. They charge 800baht per page for regular service. (cash only payment)

The affirmation to get married is valid for 6 months as per the Bangrak Amphur.

Once you are married, you can translate the marriage registration/certificate to English and certify with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to use it for visa request to USA, Australia or Europe.

You can also hire an agent to do these errands for various fees.

  12. I have received the attached info from 2 different, independent sources. YET did not see any confirmation, if this is TRUE or not .

I would definitely wait if I was to buy a car in the near future. If this is indeed true, other brands, new and used car values will definitely drop.

  13. Three citizenship offers many opportunities and some liabilities as well. Both military service and their own tax issues will come up after the age of 18 years. In 20 years many thing can change. US and Hungary don't have mandatory military service. Thailand has, but that might change. Even if not, there are always ways not to serve in the military, if someone does not want. Tax issues are complex and are always changing but with professional advice all can be managed. There are many loopholes and countries have agreements between them. No one need to pay taxes in 2-3 countries same time. If you are a US citizen and spend 330 days outside the US, you don't pay any taxes on income below 80,000USD/year. If earning over that amount,is useful to use a professional tax advisor. My future children over the age of 18 can decide themselves if they want to keep or renounce any of their citizenships. All I want to do is give them choices and opportunities.

  14. Thanks for everyones input.

I was at the US Embassy today and got notarized the affidavit that I'm eligible to get married (plus salary and reference confirmation)

I also got it translated to Thai and next week I'm heading to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to get the affirmation "Legalised" and stamped.

Now I just have to find a friendly Amphur where I can use both of my passport details for the marriage registration.

Both USA/Hungary confirmed that I'm eligible to marry. The US Embassy confirmed my salary and references. The Hungarian passport have the valid Thai Non-B visa.

This dual citizen marriage registration will allow me, to get for my soon to be wife, immigrant visa to the USA or to the Euro area if we want to move. If we have children my goal is to get them 3 citizenship by birth. I know that is lots of paperwork, running around and money for the bureaucrats, but ultimately my dependents will benefit from it.

    Mario,

I know that I need to show the 400,000 in my account for the extension based on marriage. The tax papers for 2008 would just show to any Amphur/Immigration that we are working most of the year and paying taxes, even if temporarily, I don't work. I know the law have changed in November 2008 and I cannot use joint income for my extension.

  15. Thanks for your help.

I'm Hungarian and the Hungarian Embassy does not have such a form. The consul told me that they cannot notarize any forms based on me saying what my income is or that I'm not married, without getting the proof. That is why I had to get the paper from Hungary that I'm not married. I have a 1 year non-B visa in my Hungarian passport and will do the extension based on marriage next year.

The American Embassy has such a document but I don't have any Thai visa in my American passport. I can say any income for the American Embassy and they will notarize but if I don't have any visa in the passport, I doubt they will issue such a paper. Even if they issue, the amphur want to see the Thai visa in my American passport.

I can bring two references or witnesses that is not the main problem.

Can I bring my and my GF tax return for 2008 instead of the salary slip? We have earned and paid tax on over 480,000baht officially.

I have money in my foreign bank accounts. We can live on it for years and my GF is working.

I still don't get it why the income need to be verified to get married. 400,000baht in the bank guarantee 1 year extension.

Is the marriage certificate say your nationality? Eventually I want to register my marriage at both embassies.

  16. I don't know what you have now, but it isn't the right document. What you need is the confirmation to get married document from your embassy.

Your embassy's website will list the requirements. One of the requirements will indeed be to verfy your income.

It is the document from your embassy you need to get translated at an agency and next you have to legalise it at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, consular department. With the legalised document you go to the amphur to get married. You might need to bring witnesses, but the income will already be verrified by your embassy in the document.

    Hi Mario,

I'm in catch 22 situation. My embassy told me that they don't issue any confirmation to get married document. They gave me a letter (notarized) where I authorize my family member in my country to get this confirmation to get married document from my home district office for me.That document was translated to Thai and legalised by both the Foreign Ministry and Thai Embassy in my home country. The Amphur said since the Thai Embassy signed and stamped it, they accept it.

I worked until September 30 in Thailand. Since then I don't work. I have plenty of savings and I have cash projects. If someone is unemployed, cannot get married?

I'm dual citizen. Should I use the American Embassy to get this document? But my non-B visa is in my other passport. How do they verify income? Based on last year tax return or based on paystubs until September?

    Thanks.

  17. I'm getting married next month.

I went to the Dindaeng Amphur (I live in this district) to find out what paperwork is needed to get married to a Thai lady (29).

I have a document from my country that I'm single, that was officially translated to Thai and certified by the Thai embassy in my home country. I showed my passport and my GF ID and house book registration. The office clerk said that I need to bring two guarantors (!!, maybe meant witness) and requested my salary slip and work permit. I don't work in Thailand and I never heard anyone needing this to get married.

Is there a website (thai or english) where it is listed what documents people need to get married? (farang - thai)

Should I just go to another amphur as maybe this does not want to do extra work?

By the way they only work from 8:30 - 16:30, Mon - Fri.

    Thanks.

  18. Did visa run last Friday to Poipet.

MoChit bus station 221 baht to Aranyapathet, 6:30AM - 11AM, 1 police (89km from A.) and 1 military check (29km from A.) on the bus for ID less passengers. Took motorcycle to border 6km - 50 baht.

    Thai out - 10 minutes

Cambodia in - demanded 1,000baht, I told them I have 20USD. Sent to other office. Sign says 20USD, but again they demanded 1,000baht. The border agent told me at this border the fee is 1,000 baht, not 20 USD. Either pay 1,000baht or go back to Thailand (not an option). After 5 minutes, made a deal for 20USD and 200baht. Visa done in 3 minutes. Stamped in without any problems.

Cambodia out - 20 minutes, as a big tourist group stood in line. No tea money.

Thailand in 10 minutes, had multiple non-B visa.

Motorcycle 50baht to Aranyapathet bus station.

12:30pm bus 221 baht to MoChit, arrived at 17:00. One military checkpoint with officers boarding the bus, looking for ID less passengers 29km after Aranyapathet.

    Total visa run cost 742baht (bus, motorcycle,tea money) + 20USD(visa). 6:30AM - 17:00

    With jack the golf 2200baht 5AM - 14:30
