  1. OP, I'm not sure of your gender, but FYI I found out when I asked to join that the Farangutans team is open to all farang MEN. If you are not of that variety, then you can go to the CMU fields every Sunday around 5 p.m., where there is a large group of expat players.

Are these games still on @ CMU 5pm?

Forgot about this till now, i am male, do you have a contact for the Farangutans team?

Asked at the U.N.Irish Pub and was given an e-mail address of:

    [email protected]

This pub seems to be the expat sporting base for Rugby Union (Suas/Tigers), Cricket (CMCC/Chiang Mai Cricket Club) & the aforementioned Farangutan football team.

  3. Hi london Cabbie: We're more at the moat end of Loi Kroh Rd, maybe about 300m from the moat end of the street, Take a look at Eek's map, that may help. Let me know if you want any more details

Eek: I guess in the modern world, there are lots of different tastes.. no way can we cater for all of them, but we've always tried to cater for Veggies (My sister is a staunch vegetarian, so I suppose I've got use to their needs!) The Thai Christmas Dinner is what I suppose you'd call a market response: Several people have asked for a Thai Christmas Dinner so we've tried to respond! Thanks for your comments!

Cheers to everyone who posted maps for the Olde Bell - much appreciated! Have now found it by going in for a cracking brunchtime breakfast.

At the moment in a ongoing intense discussion with the other half as to where to have a traditional Christmas Dinner.

She wants French wine - I want Guinness - So I reckon I may be having 2 dinners on the 25th.

Do you have a table for 2 available for Christmas - with the proviso being I'm not sure what time?

Cheers in advance Heathrow - Central London green badge holder

YOU CAN TELL I"M A NEWBIE...by the way I've posted twice.

@ Eek - Cheers for your help with the map!

@ Millwall Fan - Only just realised that I was replying to a very helpful post - When I wanted to ask The Olde Bell about reservations.

Are you a fan of the docks or of the football team?

  4. Check out the maps LondonCabbie. Here's a bit more detail: As you head down Loi Kroh Rd you come to a hotel called the Raming Lodge (The Thais pronounce it Ramming which is a great name for a hotel on Loi Kroh Rd!!) Anyway The Olde Bell is next doot to that, sort of behind the yellow Bank of Ayuthaya foreign exchange booth. BTW what part of London did you drive your cab in? I was a cabbie there myself for a while.

  5. DyingAnimal-What age range are we talking about? I'm a fit 42 and use to play for Kingsbury Town...I think my cousin Bugsy use to play for you ( maybe still does...long streak of p*ss...with the turning speed of a Blue Whale ) when you played in Emerald Green & the all conquering White of the Chiang Mai Seniors Cup winners of 2005....watched a team in Bangkok (in April) that was from Chiang Mai but they played in Dark Blue and were quite young. Never found out the name of the outfit just the city.

  6. Had a Veggie Pizza (crunchy broccoli) delivered from Paradise Pizza to the U.N.Irish Pub 11:55pm Monday night ( I stress only because they had closed the kitchen was I allowed this service by Aussie management @ U.N.I.P ) Do Paradise do deliveries outside the moat area?...if so how far do they travel in km/miles?..and how much does it cost?

Also last week had a fantastic pizza at La Villa...just a shame it wasn't at old address on Ratchadamnon (Walking St.) which was better for parking the old FX4..but a bloody pain to get to on Sunday...or weekend in High Season when the brica brac sale is happening on the street.

Before the enviro's. jump on high horses..my taxi is a pedal-car..and takes 4 grown men a hill 20minutes to get it upto 30mph.

  7. Caught the surprising review of Paradise Pizza & had to respond: Someone has taken alot of time to complain about a slice of pizza if just passing through.

It pains me to write this as I have always tried to keep this part of Chiang Mai, Rathawitte Road a secret.

Have always enjoyed starting a Saturday night (during the football season) at Salsa Kitchen (in the collection of bamboo bars off of Soi 2, Rathawitte) great tasting, good value food. Once finished it's off to the U.N.Irish for the football and teasing the local football team Farangutans F.C.....finished off with slices of pizza (slices really are a rarity in CM) at Paradise Pizza.

I've done this for the past 3 seasons....and now that the football has finished...I thought I would visit a place that I only ever visited between 1am-2am, the much discussed Paradise Pizza...to try something else from the menu: the pasta.

Can only say that I wish I'd tryed the rest of the menu sooner. Cracking Fettuccini plus homemade garlic bread for 79 baht.

The Dukes is a fine place to eat and I can see what all the fuss is about. My question is what do you do after you've finished eating that is in walking distance?...Sweet FA.

How can you compare the two places anyway....different budgets.

It's like comparing the lagers Chang with Corona...you get what you pay for.
