I've seen it before. It's brilliant and it boggles my mind thinking about the work and time involved!

I had a model of an SR and some spare time and this is what came out of it...

Is this enough to call myself a bike builder? You have to start somewhere, right?

New Norton tanks for the Yamaha SR go for around 16.000Baht. If you go to http://www.srthailand.com/forums/index.php?board=7.0 , you'll find plenty of shops and private sellers offering them. Here you'll also find any immaginable custom part for your project.
This is my favourite shop: http://www.srthailand.com/forums/index.php?topic=8834.0 I regularly buy stuff there. If you need help, let me know. I probably can get it at a discount.
A cheaper alternative would be a fiberglass shell that goes over the original tank...should be around 5-6.000, but I'm not sure.

Anyone knows what bike is (at 0:10) the woman is pushing?? -
haha great commercial...gonna use it,
When taking pics I focused especially on older and vintage bikes, coz that's what I like the most. One of the pictures shows an old Ducati single, which I would love to bring back from the dead...if I had 190.000Baht to spare.
Instead I will get one of those little bikes sooner or later, similar to the Kawasaki 100 in the commercial, for about 10.000B and work on that. At least the risk to f*$k it up is very low. hehe

Because they had to postpone it due to the floods last year. The good thing is, we will have 2 Bang Saen Bike Weeks this year!
I went today as well...
lots of pictures here: http://omega-racer.blogspot.com/2012/03/bang-saen-bike-week-201112.html

I had the same bike for sale 2 years ago. It was the "V" version and in similar condition as yours. It took me about 3 months to sell it, started at 65K, finally sold it for 5XK....and I had my fair share of tyre kickers and scammers.
In the end I sold it to a guy who bought it without even seeing it in person first and I sent it to him per post. He must have sold it on again, because it's back for sale in the classifieds 55....small world.

Hello track-day guys
I've never been on a track so I have a few questions regarding a day on the track.
I'm not looking to race my bike, but I would like to improve my riding skills and gain confidence. I don't own a race bike, just a little Yamaha SR400 with tracker tyres.
Is any bike suitable for the track? Anything I have to do to the bike before I enter the track? Are there any rules concerning the riding gear? I have a good helmet and a light leather jacket with some protective inserts. But what about trousers, boots and gloves?
Is it be possible to rent the riding gear or even a bike there?
Anything else a newbie should know before turning up at a track?
thanks for the help!
TiT mate, pretty much anything goes on the tracks here in Thailand. Only one time did I see a couple Russian squids refused entrance to BIRA when they showed up on Beach Road supersport rentals wearing sneakers, shorts and t-shirt.
Usually you pay your money and take your chances and if you happen to come off you're pretty much on your own so best to go with some friends, just in case.
I'd recommend wearing full gear, because even if you are taking it easy, you also have to worry about the other folks you are sharing the track with. The only track where there is gear available for rent is BIRA Circuit. Contact Graham at highsidetours to make a booking in advance as they're not open every day.
The BRC in Bangkok can be a fun little track to cruise around on. Take it easy as the surface is rather slippery! I hear Thailand Circuit is in tough shape after being under water for weeks... Kaeng Krachan seems to be a popular destination for track days recently. Bonanza Circuit is beautiful, but not a place you want to crash.
Have fun!
Tony
Thank you Tony, always helpful!

interesting
I guess I'm the odd one out here...I had a Suzuki Bandit 400 (inline 4), but couldn't stand the wizzing sound. Prefer by far the sound of a thumper 1 cylinder or a twin...for me, they just have more character...
As for the price of the SF...no way I would pay that money

Ummm....to me it looks just like all other scooters...like a plastic bucket on wheels. And as for the Fino being a better and cooler scooter than the original Vespa....
no offense, just not my thing

A friend in Germany asked me to gather some info about the import of a SR400.
I'm not really keen on doing it, because it's a lot of hassle and the financial gain is minimal.
Yamaha SR are imported in Thailand from Japan. So, the best thing to do would probably be to buy one in Japan and ship it to Germany directly, right? There is quite a big following in Germany for this bike, almost like in Thailand. But they only have old bikes, as Yamaha discontinued the import some time in the 80's I think.
I do wonder though, the SR 2010 comes with FI and catalysator...if it can pass the emission tests, why don't they import them legally?

Hi all
I recently started a topic regarding exporting bike parts to Germany and I got very helpful replies.
Now I'm thinking of going one step further and actually exporting a whole bike. The bike(s) in question would only have the invoice and no registration.
Has anyone got experience with this? What would roughly be the cost to ship to Germany?
Any other expenses on my side apart from the shipping costs? Any taxes, custom fees in Thailand?
Anything else worth knowing before starting such endeavor?
Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks
-
Thanks BBBkk, you saved me there. It is Germany....
I don't have a company. Would it be Ok if I just put my name on the invoice or should it be my "company's" name?
-
Thanks for the advice. I'm not paying for the shipping costs, but they have to be as low as possible.
So, if I understand correctly: no invoice needed on box, but declared value not lower than shipping cost.
thank you

Hi guys
Thought I might get some help from you.
I will shortly have to send some bike parts, new and used, to Europe. I will use the post this time.
Do I have to put an invoice on the box for customs, or can I just send it without?
I don't want to risk it being confiscated or incur in a heavy fine, but at the same time I want to pay as little to the government as possible.
Do you have any advice for me?
thanks a lot

WOW!
Amazing work! The guy's an artist.

I did the loop on an ER6-n and can only recommend it. Loved it from the start to the end. Did about 6hours a day and was really comfortable. I paid 1.200Baht a day for rental...can't remember the name of the shop, though.
ER6-n, no doubt.

I wrote a short blog post with lots of info about the market a few months ago.

If it had the MV Agusta F3's styling, it would be heaven on earth.

Dagling, there's so much stuff out there for the SR, I don't know where to start!
There are all imaginable parts to transform your bike into anything you like, especially a cafe racer.
I would recommend 2 shops in particular, as they have a good reputation and have actual shops in Bangkok. Prices are generally about the same in both shops. For a bargain you might have to hunt in the private ads...
http://www.srthailand.com/forums/index.php?topic=4950.0
and
http://www.srthailand.com/forums/index.php?topic=89.0
but there are several other shops I haven't dealt with yet and plenty of private sellers on that forum. It helps if you can speak Thai or ask someone to help you.
This guy has lots of alu tanks, BSA also....no price though
http://www.srthailand.com/forums/index.php?topic=56.0
Hope to see you at the big SR meeting in March next year.

If it's for your SR, why not just buy a finished tank? They're not cheap (between 8 and 15k I think), but look great. Alternatively, there are much cheaper fiberglass covers (Norton &BSA style) that just go over the original tank...if you like that sort of things.

It is true that the amount of interest you will pay will not be reduced for early repayment. But, bear in mind that if you wait another 4+ years, the vehicle depreciation also comes into account, which could be substantial by that time depending on the vehicle (and other factors).
So if you have the money to pay it off sooner rather than later, you do gain a financial benefit.
