A friend of mine wrote to me a few days ago and this is what he had to say….. “As somebody who has dealt with clinical depression both as a caretaker and as the result of PTSD, it seems kind of simplistic to say that people choose to be depressed. Myself and those that I have cared for did not choose to be depressed and only professional counselling and powerful prescription medications benefitted myself and continue to enable many people to function and lead normal lives. Clinical depression can be chronic and a life-long affliction.”
In this weeks Blog, I’ll do my best to answer this very serious subject. It’s just my own thoughts based on my own experiences and study. In NO WAY am I demeaning or judging anyone who is or has suffered from depression.
'Clinical depression': What does that mean? Depression ranges in seriousness from mild, temporary episodes of sadness to severe, persistent depression. Doctors use the term "clinical depression" to describe the more severe form of depression also known as "major depression" or "major depressive disorder."

For a diagnosis of clinical depression, you must meet the symptom criteria spelled out in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). The DSM is a guidebook used to diagnose mental illness in the United States.

    Clinical depression symptoms may include:

    • Depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day
    • Loss of interest or pleasure in most activities
    • Significant weight loss or gain
    • Sleeping too much or not being able to sleep nearly every day
    • Slowed thinking or movement that others can see
    • Fatigue or low energy nearly every day
    • Feelings of worthlessness or inappropriate guilt
    • Loss of concentration or indecisiveness
    • Recurring thoughts of death or suicide
To meet the criteria for clinical depression (called major depression in the DSM), you must have five or more of the above symptoms over a two-week period. At least one of the symptoms must be either a depressed mood or a loss of interest or pleasure. Keep in mind, some types of depression may not fit this strict definition.

Clinical depression causes noticeable disruptions in daily life, such as work, school or social activities. It can affect people of any age or sex, including children. It isn't the same as depression caused by a loss (such as the death of a loved one), substance abuse or a medical condition such as a thyroid disorder.

Clinical depression symptoms usually improve with psychological counselling, antidepressant medications or a combination of the two. Even severe depression symptoms usually improve with treatment.

    from Daniel K. Hall-Flavin, M.D. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/clinical-depression/AN01057

Depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day!
I’m depressed! What does that mean?
I don’t feel happy; I do feel sad, gloomy and miserable!
    Mood…..is your frame of mind
So your mind feels sad, gloomy and miserable!
It’s our own thoughts that create our own reality.
We have to realise and accept this.
This is the 1st step in healing yourself.
You really have to understand and realise that it is YOU doing it to YOU.
Nobody else is thinking for you…..JUST YOU!
You choose to think the thought and the thought becomes a feeling or emotion.
If you think a happy thought you feel happy.
If you think an angry thought you feel angry.
If you think a sad thought you feel sad.
You choose to do it all to yourself with your own mind, your own thoughts.
You’re not aware of it because you’ve developed a habit of thinking in the same patterns.
If you can accept and realise this, become aware of this, you are well on the way to happier healthier life!
Let’s look at a scenario where someone could develop clinical depression and another where you are very happy: Twins, Gordon and Gordina had worked for the same company, packing biscuits, for 5 years. They were both made redundant one month ago! Gordon’s thinking and response’s Gordina’s thinking and response’s I don’t know what I can do. How can I survive? There are no jobs out there. Shit always happens to me. There’s nothing to get out of bed for. Daytime TV is crap I can’t sleep for worrying about money. What’s the point of going on, it’ll always be the same. Might as well kill myself…nobody cares anyway! At this point Gordon goes to the Doctor who tells him he’s depressed and prescribes medication. I wonder what I can do. I have somewhere to live, I get some money from the government, I have food…I will survive. With all this time on my hands I can start to exercise and learn how to cook healthy food, which will help me lose the weight I’ve been meaning to do. I can go to the library and read up on subjects that interest me. I can take a training course in IT. At last I have time to learn meditation and yoga. “WOW, I just met this person when I was out exercising. We got talking and he offered me a job doing something I’ve always wanted to do, for twice the money I was getting at the biscuit factory.”
Now maybe you’ll think that this is a bit simplistic….BUT…it’s you that’s thinking it!
I understand that it may be difficult to get your mind round this but I urge you to consider it, to ponder it.
You don’t have to believe me but I do know this for a fact:
IT’S YOUR THOUGHTS OF TODAY THAT MAKE YOUR TOMORROW!
AND….there are far wiser and better teachers than me out there:
“All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become.
“Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.” Buddha

  2. Sorry you think it's either an advert OR scripted!

I can assure you it is ALL my own words and thoughts.

I have NOTHING to do with either EFT or FasterEFT......BUT I have found them to be useful tools

in my search for happiness and freedom from my addiction to both drinking and smoking.

Hope that's a simple enough answer for you?

  3. I'd be a little more convinced it you hadn't posted a link to a special reduced rate of only $1200 for the course.

Is that how much it is?! I was thinking of buying it!! Not now......BUT...

he has put a lot of free stuff on UTube....and if you register on his site he sends you a free

7 day course which gives you a good idea what it's all about

  4. Addiction is defined as: the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma. It comes from the Latin word meaning SURRENDER!

Worldwide, levels of depression, anxiety and addiction have reached epidemic levels: 1 in FOUR people are estimated to be clinically depressed! That’s over 1.75 BILLION PEOPLE!!

That number means nothing to most of us, so think of it this way: For every 4 people you see one will be depressed and there is a very good chance that one will be addicted to something and one will have low self-esteem and think they’re not good enough! I wonder how many of them are positions of Government, Power and Authority? [a subject for another blog maybe J]

The ONE thing I for sure is THAT NOT ONE of these 1.75 Billion people started out with the intention of becoming addicted or depressed. THEY LEARNED IT! And if you’ve learned something …..you can unlearn it!

You don’t need fixed because you’re NOT broken! Yes, you might be lost and confused, and I know you’re your own worst enemy... the most critical, judgmental person about YOU!!

I’ve been asked what qualifications I have to talk about this: and my answer is; I’ve tasted honey!

You can read and study about honey, you can do research on bees, you can sit exams and do a PhD on honey. BUT, if you have never tasted honey you don’t know what you’re talking about!

For the last 25 years I’ve been studying psychology, self development, attending courses and seminars and it’s been my experience that the good teachers ALL have tasted honey.

Your thoughts and feelings are real: unless you have an image of your place in the future, that is something you want. Unless you have reason, unless you have a clear picture of what you want. No matter what action you involve yourself in, it will not be joyful!

I encourage you, if it’s what you want, to release your addiction. To give thought to what it will be without it.

Such clear and vivid thought that you have emotional release about it.

And if you don’t want to release it, DON’T!

BUT don’t beat yourself up about it! There is NO reason to beat yourself up.

    STOP disliking yourself!

    STOP judging and criticising yourself!

    STOP disallowing yourself to do!

When you are not liking yourself or approving of yourself, THEN YOU, no matter how much you want something will not let it happen!

You can NOT attract a life without addiction if you keep thinking you’re a no good failure.

Don’t be so hard on yourself!

Instead say: “I am where I am as a result of past thought, and past word, and past action. BUT right now I stand in a new place; I am thinking and speaking and doing different things, which will bring about a different future.”

Just imagine if you awoke one morning and ALL your old memories, BELIEFS and self-talk were not there! NONE of the negative thoughts, emotions or self destructive behaviours!

What would your life be like?

    What would you do?

    You would be free!

You would look in the mirror with eyes of wonderment and love for you and everything around you.

Just imagine changing your beliefs about you!

You’re NOT an addict and you don’t have an addictive nature.

You’re NOT this fat horrible person.

You’re not a drunk and you haven’t got a hangover.

You ARE a bloody miracle…Billions of cells all [or mostly] working together and you’re not even aware of them.

Your heart beats, your liver and kidneys cleanse, your lungs inhale and exhale the life giving air…. and you are NOT EVEN CONSCIOUS THAT IT IS YOU DOING IT!

As I said, “YOU ARE A BLOODY MIRACLE!” but you CHOOSE to be SO trapped in your mind [the brain is just more cells] you still believe what your Mum or Dad or whoever did to you or told you all those years ago.

We are NOW so lucky that we have access to knowledge and information that can help change how and what we believe about ourselves and our lives.

The downside is there is so much information available, where do you start if you’re doing this alone?

I would start with www.fasterEFT.com to help you start releasing the old memories. It's something I came across on UTube a few weeks ago.

  5. I just did that gig.

My understanding is that you have to go to bkk to do the paperwork.

unless you speak thai, make sure you have a note explaining to the taxi where you want to go when you get off the bus.

my timeline for the last trip

    DONE w00t.gif

    Took the redeye back.

tally, ~36 hours,of it ~20 hours on bus, 2000B fee, 1600B bus tickets, 500B taxis, 200B food and stuff.

    Easy as can be.

Except the first time i went, my school forgot a critical doc, and i had to return empty handed! facepalm.gif

PM me if you want more detail on how to make things easier.

Good luck and dont forget to take plenty of patience with you thumbsup.gif

THanks loads Jamhar....do yo know if you have to have at least 21 days on your tourist visa left?

  6. I've started working for a university in the North.

My current visa is 90 (60) day tourist which expires on 2nd December.

I get my paperwork for Non B tomorrow.....

    My questions are:

Can I change in Chang Mai?

OR does it have to be in Bangkok?

If I have less than 21 days left on my tourist visa.....do I have to leave the country?

Thanks for taking the time to help

  7. In my life journey I haven't found many happy people, so I've decided to start writing a weekly Blog with a view to helping myself become happier and a hope that I might be able to help somebody else do the same.

Below is a copy of week 1. The Blog can be found at:

    (REMOVED)

I look forward to constructive questions and comments.......

Throughout the ages there has always been the haves and the have not’s.

The ones who have everything and the majority who have nothing or next to nothing.

Inequality has always been rife ….but there is hope….there is change afoot.

Off course the titanic gulf between the few and many that is so obscenely obvious is money! I say money and not wealth for a reason; the ones who have it all…cash…. loads of lovely money……fame ….fortune…. wealth …and POWER!!....are they happy?

Have you ever wondered how much money you need before it loses its appeal?

    Before it becomes boring?

Before you start to look around and say, “I’m better than these people, they don’t know how lucky they are that I’m helping them. I know what’s good for them! If it wasn’t for me…blah, blah, etc, etc.

The revolution has started….neigh, I say the revolution is gathering so much momentum it has become unstoppable!

The people will not be silenced! The information is ours!.....OK, enough of the melodramatic, Gordon….get to the point.

The point is…..there are not many happy people in the world!

Money does NOT make you happy!!

CRAP, I hear you cry!! “If I had more money, I would be happy!”

Yes you would….for a short time BUT…this and future blogs are about wealth!

True Wealth! ( Don’t panic, it’s not about religion…..mmm, there’s an idea, maybe we could start a new religion? Control, Power, Wealth…ok, maybe not)

    So, what is true wealth?

    In my opinion, true wealth is being happy and healthy; Enjoying what you do;

Living each day in anticipation of what exhilarating things will happen next. [imagine a thunderstorm, your thoughts could be, ‘WOW, fantastic! Look at the wonderful show that nature is putting on’ or ‘OH NO, there’s a storm coming! Probably get flooded out…and knowing my luck, lately, I wouldn’t be surprised if I got hit with lightning!’]

Same storm in the same place, same person BUT…VERY different thoughts and these thoughts will cause very different emotions which in turn will create different experiences.

At 55 I’m standing at the edge of a precipice ….I could sink into the despair of self pity or alcoholism, or just become a grumpy old man…as so many people seem to do about my age, as they appear to give up hope!

    OR

I can create a life of wonder and joy…..I invite you to join me on my journey (and tell your friends) ….it will be interesting (to me at least) and my sincere hope is that some of the little nuggets I’ll be writing about, will resonate with you …..and help you in your own journey towards, joy, peace and happiness.

KNOWING THAT YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH, YOU DESERVE TO BE HAPPY AND YES YOU ARE SPECIAL….VERY SPECIAL!

    Till next week,

    Gordon.

Neverdie.........That is a great namefor this thread. My mother lived until 96 and was in good shape and took careof herself up to the last couple of days of her life. Don't know when you start to feel old but I don't yet, although my memory as not as good as it once was and I can't leap tall buildings in a single bound. Have been retired for 25 years now and have enjoyed every day of it. Lifes good I have a fantastic wife, married 34 years and every day with her is fun.

Remember all the good things that happen to you and forget any bad.

Good luck to you neverdie and enjoy every day. :)

How WONDERFUL...you brought a smile and tear to my eye....thank you.....I wish you and your wife many more fun days

I have only been here just over 3 years and I have no intention of leaving....why would I.......

But I hope to have enough money one day to spend a couple of months every year in New Zealand with my wife

  9. Before I married somebody of the same age, socio-cultural level, ethnic background and native language, we dated for a year. We worshiped together, I met her extended family; we had countless long conversations. I had dated one of her friends for a year. After a year of marriage, we knew all about each other. I find that Thai-farang relationships are not the same. Do you agree?

    Not the same as what?

If a relationship is working well, it is nourished and grows

    If it's not.it goes to hel_l....

I DONT see any difference.......nomatter which country the partners are from

  10. Sorry if this is in the wrong place.......Don't know where to post General thoughts?

If you bother to read it....your thoughts & remedies would be great...

    from acorns Oak will grow.

    What is wrong with us?

Why do we continue to allow gamblers (STOCKBROKERS & BANKERS) to control the world!!

People who produce nothing apart from greed and more greed!!

Millions of hard working people are in despair and have lost their jobs and homes because of the stupidity of these greedy callous (w)....bankers!!!

SO...as happens with gambling, their winning streak came to an end.....

THEY LOST!! But did they care....NO.....it wasn't their money they were playing with.

Countries went (and are on the brink) of going bankrup....and our leaders, the politicians (good subject for next post) what did they do? Slapped them on the wrist....and threw BILLIONS at them!! DID THEY CHANGE???

HEADLINE......Oil prices collapse on world economic meltdown.

HEADLINE......Signs that fall in economy are slowing

HEADLINE......Markets worried, Oil under $50/ barrel

    HEADLINE.....End of recession in sight

HEADLINE.....Global stockmarkets rally adding $10000000000000 in CHIPS!!!

HEADLINE..... Oil tops $78/barrel on recovery hopes

HEADLINE.....Gas prices increase because of Oil price recovery

HEADLINE......Consumers struggling to make ends meet because of increase in gas prices

HEADLINE? In the News? One Line?....Somewhere in the World a child dies every 4 seconds due to the effects of malnutrition.

I in NO way include the ordinary, hard working, men and women that work in the High Street Banks throught-out the world on my attack of the Bankers and Power Brokers.

I still have hope for the human race.....if enough people start to think and act differantly.......HOW... I hear you cry, the begining of the answer is in talking .....and also there are NEW teachers that are out there, we just have have to search.....when the student is ready the teacher will appear.....for the cinics amongst you....it is not me.

For those who want to start, or have questions how...I suggest a good place to begin would be to do a web search for Dr. Deepak Chopra.

Let's save our planet and give our children hope and knowledge.
