Any advice on travelling Pattaya to Cha Am? There may be 2 or 3 of us going. Reckon we could negotiate a "taxi" for baht1500?

Have you never been to Pattaya? yet you are recommending it to your friends as a beach resort. The "beach" in Pattaya is awful. It's only about 20 yards wide, covered in deck chairs and it's gritty dirty sand. The sea is also pretty unpleasant to swim in, lots of pollution. Jomtien a bit further along is hardly any better. Pattaya is good fun, it's like Bangkok-by-Sea..there's 2 or 3,000 bars between it and Jomtien but the beach is yeuch.
If you want all the fun stuff AND beautiful beaches with pure white sand and clear sea you should tell them to get down to the islands like Phuket or Koh Samet or Koh Chang.

Are you sure it will be less than a 1000 on the meter? Last time I negotiated to get it for 1200 because it's a 2 hour run and I thought it would come to more than that on a meter.

Get a taxi for 1200baht.
But you sound like a tight git, so get the train into Bangkok, then tuktuk to the bus station, then bus to Pattaya, then bahtbus to your hotel.

1090 a night....that is way over the top. I stayed in the Expat the first time i went to Phuket years ago. Found it very noisy and the rooms very basic.
Try the Regent Hotel on Rat-U-Thit road near the 7UP shop and about 100 yards from Club Andaman. It's clean, quiet, aircon and massive beds :-) and I stayed there for 600 a night last November and will be there again this year. email [email protected] No pool, but you don't need one when the beach is only 200 yards away.
Don't accept their first price. Whatever they quote you, just say, you can get the same sort of room for 2 or 300 baht cheaper down the road. They'll come down :-)

If you go across Sukhumvit and up about 100 yards to Soi 7, there's a decent hotel about another 100 yards up Soi 7 on the right. Can't remember the name though! Stayed there for 700baht a night last November.

Thanks for the info. Didn't realise it was quite so easy to get a 60 day tourist visa, but I've found a site where i can download the forms and Thai consulates in the UK where I can apply by mail which is what i need as I don't live on the mainland. London consular section don't accept applications by mail anymore.

Hi
I'm planning to travel out to Thailand from the UK in the middle of November and stay for 2 months. On a British passport I know I can stay for 30 days without a visa. I'm not going to apply for a tourist visa before leaving the UK as before 30 days is up in Thailand I'm going to Vietnam for a few days and then back to Thailand for a few weeks before returning to the UK.
Can anyone see a problem with me doing this? If necessary, I can get a visa when in Thailand can't I? Last year I stayed more than 30 days and got a visa when already in Thailand to cover the extended stay.
