  1. Sad to see so many posters seem to think they will try and be clever on this thread which would be more interesting but for them.

Cabbages and condoms. This is by far the best restaurant in Pattaya for me. I know the name of it is not appealing and for that reason I did not try it until I was taken there by friends. There is a short and interesting walk from the entrance to the beach side restaurant. I was going to describe it more but here's 1 picture from their website. The food is mostly Thai and cooked a little bit different than usual. It got a WOW from me for the food and the bill.

One of my favourite local haunts, perfect place for a family dinner or a date. Beautiful views and a fairly varied menu. The food costs are reasonable but the ++ puts me off a little. The Chaing Mai Chicken (Khao Soi Kauy) excuse my spelling is fantastic. Like a curried noodle soup with chicken and crispy noodles on top.

  2. I'm new to Pattaya and thought that reading this forum would lead to some great places to eat. Instead I find it's just almost impossible to get anyone to stay on topic, provide a coherent submission, and not be filled with off topic diatribe. WOW indeed!

You may be better looking into some face books groups, that the admins keep on track, Pattaya Restaurants (be careful there are 2, 1 is commercial, the other is regular, and Thailand Wine & Dine. Both give honest reviews and photos of eateries in and around Pattaya.

  3. If you are willing to travel over to the Darkside you will find "Suggestions" restaurant, they offer a daily 3 course set menu from Tuesday to Sunday 11.30am to 4pm I think. 3 Starters, 3 Mains and 1 Dessert. Fixed price of 250 Baht. Quality restaurant, with aircon and good service. The meals are excellent. If you want to find reviews on restaurants in Pattaya I find the best 2 Facebook sites are Thailand Wine and Dine, or Pattaya Restaurants, both give real customer reviews with honest feedback. Some even provide location maps. Now if your original post had included Buffets then Akvavit and News Steak and Grill, both towards Jomtien would have been serious contenders on the list. If you prefer to stay closer to Central Pattaya then thou may consider Cherrys on 3rd road.

  4. I dealt with Nova group in Pattaya for my Condo purchase, size on contract was 96 Sqm, actual size on Chanote was 92.6 Sqm. They refunded the difference without me having to ask for it. They also advised me that their contract had a clause in it that if the unit was more or less than 5% different from the planned size they allowed the investor to pull out. Your condo definately does not include any car parking spaces which as correctly posted before, form part of the common area.

  5. From the earlier Crash description it sounded like the accident happened right beside the Police Box in front of the Village. All too often you see drivers on the wrong side of the road, trying to make the lights whilst they are green (or amber….or red). You see so many near misses there when cars turn left off of the Sukhumvit, to head towards Jomtien Beach whilst vehicles are driving full pelt on the right hand side of the road. I still struggle to get my head round the lack of respect and the attitude that their journey is more important than yours. Even Police seem to do it, so how can they enforce it.

  6. Depends on the type you like, we prefer the fall off the bone, rather than having to really bite it off. Saturday & Sunday at Akvavit on Jomtien Beach 12 till 4 they do a buffet, cheap way to try. There is a Facebook group which has an easy to use map with reviews built in, which you can find here facebook.com/groups/BreakfastClubPattaya/?fref=ts

  7. Hi. I wonder if anyone in the Korat area can help me. I am in Pattaya but trying to find a sidecar company in the Korat area. My wife's Father is driving an ancient relic of a 3 wheeler and would like to buy a secondhand bike and get it converted or just buy one complete. Does anyone have any suggestions. I could get it made locally but getting it to Korat would be costly

  8. Pratumnak was not well represented so have added in a few of my favourites. Cabbages & Condoms on Soi 4. Au Bon Coin, between Soi 5 & 6, and for the best value breakfast Irish Rovers on Soi 4. I have also added in Voodoo lounge on Soi Chaiyapreuk, close to Jomtien Beach, which is getting really popular and for 3 SoiDogNight I added in Mikes as have used it myself, Soi 11 just off of Thappraya. Regards Pattaya Property Auctions.

  9. @dawsonuk ... if the thai bf can prove a genuine domestic relationship is that not the same as passing the estate to the wife as far as tax implications?

Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

It is not to do with the sex, rather the domicile of the partner. Although changes may have been made to the UK laws to allow same sex marriages, the tax man is always years behind and in his favour. Try buying a joint life 2nd death same sex annuity, or the implication of how it effects the UK state pension and the passing on to the spouse.

The taxman tries to close each loophole as they appear, then eventually you end up with a mess.

  10. Unfortunately Uk law on Uk Citizens apply to there wordily assets. If you care to Google Richard Burton you will see why. Gifting capital to purchase a property, although the property is no longer in your name, is still a gift. Normally there is no IHT between husband and wife, however if your partner is non domicile then there is only a small allowance, from memory around 55,000 GBP (this is on top of the NRB which is currently 325,000GBP). If the person has a will in the UK then the burden is upon the Executors to prove where the assets are. The UKs financial affairs mean that the Taxman is no investigating more cases than ever.

There are legal financial instruments that can help reduce the impact of Inheritance Tax. Buying a property overseas and giving it away is not one of them, although t does muddy the waters. Achieving Non-Domicile status also allows you to avoid any Inheritance Tax, although to achieve this you must break all links with the UK. No assets, no bank accounts……..and as Richard Burton found out…..not even a burial plot, as then it is clearly your intention to return.

The gift allowance is an annual allowance, that can only be rolled up for 2 years. Tapering relief is allowed on gifts, reducing the impact of the taxation, however the Inland Revenue, take any gifts back into your estate placing the oldest ones at the bottom. So those that qualify for the greatest relief also use up your Nil Rate Band, leaving the rest of your estate to be taxed at 40% over the threshold. I do understand the Thai lawyers perspective, that It is not in UK, so cannot be taxed, however, they will not tax the actual property and the burden is once again on the executors of his will. Ask any American if living overseas means they avoid Tax, they will probably quote FATCA Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act. More and more countries are trying to adopt this attitude of "you are our citizen you will pay taxes to us wherever you are"

This in not specific to this case, just general information that I used in a previous (recent) life.

If there is no estate in the UK, then there is likely to be little problem, as the Inland Revenue have no cash to take their cut from. I am sure the cost, both financial and the bad press, of trying to prize it out of a Thai family would not make sense.

  11. I spoke to a Rental Company Owner (in Pattaya) and was told in Bangkok there is the start of a price war between Nissan and Toyota. I then saw signs just south of Pattaya on the Sukhumvit with the discounts applicable to new Nissans. I remember the March was 30,000 Baht. Seemingly the New Vios and Yaris were 40,000 & 60,000 Baht respectively. Unfortunately I do not know what dealer is involved, however the Nissan prices were on open display.

  12. I think the problems are PowerBuy related, not just laptops.I purchased an Air Conditioning unit from PB based on the fact that their customer service was the best. I bought and paid in full by Debit Card two weeks prior to agreed installation date. We agreed an installation date of the 4th Feb. On the 3rd they called and said that they could not install untill the 6th or 7th. This delayed the opening of our shop but with short notice it was unlikely we could arrange anywhere else sooner. On the 5th PB called saying the install could not be until the 13th, for me this was the final straw and I asked for a refund, they agreed.Back off to PB only to be told that refunds to Debit Cards take 2 weeks, this means they will have had my 20,000 Baht for 5 weeks in total.

After 2 weeks no sign of the money, again back to the shop, only to be told to go see the Bank. After 3 weeks and a visit to the bank, it was back to PB, where a helpful member of staff contacted accounts and I was paid back the next day.

So in agreement with other posters, PB only want your money, what you actually get they really dont care about. Don't bother contacting their head office via the website, as they don't reply.

I ended up at Homepro, bought the same unit for 1,000 Baht less and it was delivered and installed within 2 days. The fitter (self employed) said that PB were stingy, paid only 1,000 for each installation, whereby Homepro were over 2,000. All included in the sales price.

  13. I have known and sometimes dealt with this guy - I know its not the crime of the century but he was advertising with blatant disregard - actually I think the bigger crime may be that he was taking work away from a Thai.

His marketing skills went deeper than just advertising - for instance, previously he had been seen at the Royal British Legion on remembrance day trying to sell copies of The World at War etc. When he was busted I was tempted to go down to the nick and give him a copy of 'The Great Escape' - or perhaps 'The Sting' may have been more appropriate.

  14. Hi

We bought one for our son from the shop which is just before the traffic lights on North Pattaya Rd at the 3rd rd intersection - heading towards sukhumvit.sorry cant rememebr the name of the shop - you actually turn left about 20 metres before the lights- down a little lane to the parking bay.

I think we paid about 1800 - it is made of wood - very sturdy but easy to clean - our lad has been using is since he was 8 months old.

  15. 'TV you can trust' - I know what that means - but it certainly isnt applicable to Sawadee Pattaya.

I caught it last night, I heard music from Countdown - Beverly Hills Cop and at least two other pieces of music that I am sure they havent asked permission to use - so what they are doing is breaking the law.

I see they now have a theme tune - is it just me or is it a revamping of the Care Bears tune?

As for the content - Question of the week - what a load of crap.

Youtube moments - we all get these sent to us - dont need to see them on TV.

Presenters - its an insult to the word.

It is beyond me why anybody would want to advertise on this show.

Just an aside - i take it it must be easy to get work permits to work on television?

I heard the show had support form City Hall - I havent seen one piece that showcases Pattaya.

So what element of the show is trustworthy? - I will keep my opinions on that to myself

TV in Pattaya always comes under fire - but this is just a joke - and not a funny one at that.
