1. Hi

We are in the outskirts of chiang mai, doi saket - Talat kwan area... a few nights ago there were some pretty harsh storms and we think the lightening may have hit a telephone/electric poll outside our house, as the next day the box had burnt.

Since then we have been unable to get an internet connection (we are with TOT) anyone else in the same position? we have called tot a million times, but they have been no use at all. This morning there was a guy up this pole so we tried to ask him and he said all of Talat Kwan area had been hit pretty bad.

  2. Having a torrid time finding a car hire place which allows a one way rental without asking for silly prices or you aren't even allowed to drive it out of Phuket due t their insurance policies.

We have two small dogs (Shih Tzu's) and were wondering whether the trains from Surat Thani will allow them onboard. I've emailed and called them but either no reply or they don't understand what a dog is.

Anyone have any experience or seen dogs on trains (that were meant to be there :) )

If so, do they need crates/cages?

Flying is not an option by the way.

  3. I linked a Kasikornbank VISA web shopping card to my Paypal. This card is pure electronic, nu plastic.

Very smooth. No problems. The good thing was the process of applying for and settting up the card was completely electronic and was completed in 1 min AND it is FREE! Account with Kasikorn Bank required.

    http://www.kasikornbank.com/EN/Personal/Ca...ebShopping.aspx

We've done this and as you say it worked a treat with Kasikorn. A friend has a Siam and a Ayutthaya bank and cannot set one up though.

The Kasikorn virtual card is a VISA debit and seems good enough.

One thing that I can't quite find on PayPal is the exchange rate they use. Their T&C's state they use over 1000 inter-bank exchange rates which aren't available to the public. However, I'd quite like to know the rate I'd get before withdrawing any money. Obviously I'd just leave it in there until it got better.

For example, I got paid in £ and on Jan 1st withdrew at a rate of 52.6 to the £. Ten days later, almost the same amount worked out as 50.2. Anyone know how to find the rate they will use? Or is it just another cheeky way of making more money which PayPal use to their advantage?

  4. I have a single entry tourist visa from KL, this runs out tommorow and I understand that I need to go to Immigration in Phuket town and I can extend this for another 30 days.

Could someone who has done this recently advise me what I need to do exactly? I know its going to cost just under 2k, but do I need to take passport photos or anything, and do I need to fill a form in, if so where do I get this?

Also is immigration open all day for me to do this?

    Thanks very much

  5. We did our visa run -andaman club with a company called eve - they are in the gazette somewhere i think. cost us 1800 baht, just ring them up and they pick you up in the morning (we got picked up at about 5am from the big tescos) they gave us a wake up call too incase we slept in :D

Just give them to money when you get on the bus and then off you go, I always take a pillow so i can sleep comfortably, and i try to sit towards the front or the back seats as you get more leg room.

They stop occasionally on the way at petrol stations. The ride was good with this company to the andaman club, ie the driver was only 90% crazy on the roads compared to the other services we used in the past :) ..seriously though he was ok

We didnt need to pay anymore money as the fee includes everything. They guide you through the whole thing ie o to that desk they stamp you out,in out etc. You get a boat accross to the hotel and you have lunch (u will select what you want on the mini bus on route) the hotel was lovely as was the food, and if you have time you can go to the casino.

I found it very good, and we were back at tesco for 5pm so not too bad

  6. Has anyone recently obtained a single entry tourist visa from KL, if so hopefully you can advise:

    1. Did you need to show an outward ticket from thailand?

    2. What documentation did you need to obtain the visa?

    3. Did you have to pay a fee for the visa?

4.On the Visa application form on the consulates website there is a section asking for local guarantor address etc, and another for guarantor....what do I need to enter here?

    Thanks

...I currently have a non b visa due to end early next week, I then wish to take some time to see more of Thailand so unsure of exact dates or place I will be leaving from.

  7. From the big Tesco Lotus towards Patong, about 1km there is a Vespa garage on the right.

Also there's one next to the market just passed Rajabhat University in between Thepkrasatree Road and Yoawarad Road.

I'm sure a falang with a wad of cash would tempt a sale from them.

  8. I asked the consulate in Hull where I could get a new non immigrant O visa from - based on visiting friends and family..here was their response....

I very much doubt you can get this visa anywhere other than your country of nationality, you will either have to return to the UK and apply to us for the visa or see attachment for applying outside of Thailand

    .

and here is what was in the attached document....

APPLYING FOR A VISA WHEN RESIDING OUTSIDE THE EUROPEAN UNION
Persons residing outside the European Union (EU) who wish to apply to this consulate for a visa to visit Thailand for whatever purpose must submit their

application only through a person residing in the UK. That person, residing in the UK and acting on behalf of the applicant, can then submit the application to this consulate by post or in person. When the visa is issued we will return the passport to the person who submitted it on behalf of the applicant subject to the

correct return postage being included. That person is responsible for forwarding the passport to the applicant wherever they may be residing. We do not accept any applications for visas direct from persons residing outside the EU.

Furthermore this Consulate will not issue a visa to anyone whose passport shows

they have not exited Thailand prior to submitting their application.

....so from this short but straight to the point response seems you can indeed apply by post, may try this sometime and spend some time in a cheap country nearby whilst waiting for the passport to return...however postal times and teh risk of loosing my passport do concern me :)

I recieved this reponse at the end of July this year so it is most likely still applicable

  9. ohh u have just made me a little homesick again :)

  10. katabeachbum..thanks soo much that really helps, didnt think I could go to KL for some reason for that specific visa, always thought i would have to go to laos :) but that helps alot so thanks again :D

jdean thanks also..if for some reason i dont to to kl then will try your suggestion... :D

  11. my visa runs out in november with no entries left as ive just doen my last border run, i now want tourist visa from laos - this will be my first one, only need it for 3 months then i will be visiting the UK next year so will get my non o from hull when im there. From reading the forum I see I can get a tourist visa from laos, as long as im not working on the visa, so this is perfect for me..thats why im going there :)

Yahooka, been trying to find flights online last night but to be honest flying from phuket> BKK> Laos was rather expensive for me ...saying that I only found flights with thai airways and I do need to look at more airlines.

could try flying to udon ...the reason i asked re a visa run service is this is my first trip to laos and for this type pf visa, im 24 lady (not that that matters) but i would feel more comfortable with a group or having a little guidance, if there is no such service available for this the so be it , Im sure it'll be an experience just thought no harm is seeing :D

    thanks

  12. Sorry if this is in the wrong place..

In November I need a new visa, going to try Laos for a tourist visa before going back to UK next year and getting another O. however...would really prefer to fly and have never been to Laos before or had this specific type of visa. Does anyone know of , or actually dealt with a visa run service who does this run via air specifically from here?

Had a look on the net and i can find providers from pattaya, bangkok..but not phuket

I dont fancy a lengthy bus journey makes me so sick even going to burma :) I know its a little while away yet just need to be prepared...thanks
