  1. Make sure you get travel insurance and keep an eye on the news over the next few months.

If the volcano is still active then I would split the trip in thirds:

Legian / Seminyak then Ubud and finally somewhere on the N coast such as Lovina.

If Agung is quiet then Leg / Sem. then a drive round the coast stopping in Candidesa - Padang Bai ending in Singaraja / Lovina before a cpl of nights in Ubud.

Driving is fine provided you avoid Dps and the big Southern tourist hotspots.

Uluwatu is a nice day trip.

In Bali its difficult not to have a great trip,

Can I ask the OP to pay attention to the 'welcome to Thailand' video they play prior to landing and when they get to the immigration procedures bit, see if they specifically mention that holders of 'long-term' visas can use the Fast Track arrival facilities.

    Thanks!

Arriving TG Business Class - just show yr boarding card to go through Fast Track immigration. Looking at the queues at BKK recently, this facility will be a real bonus.

    I'll tell you one then.

    Kasikorn, Big C Extra, Pattaya.

I've also had problems with Kasikorn Pattaya Klang in opening an account and Bangkok Bank on Second Rd. The wife was able to open an account at SCB Pattaya Klang with a 1 year visa though, but they did ask for a work permit first off.

I opened my bank account at Kasikorn (2nd Rd Pattaya) with a TV, condo rental contract and a local mobile numbers: they couldn't have been more helpful.

  4. I'm from the UK aand have received SETV twice from Denpasar Bali over the last year. Processing takes 3 days (Mon am drop-off / Weds pm pick-up) and you do need to show in/out tickets, hotel bookings for a week and evidence of funds in a bank account. Never anyone there and the consular staff are great, Bali is a nice place to spend a few days but does get very busy over the Xmas / NY week.

30 day VOA is free in Indonesia for UK passport holders - which is nice.

You can extend the 15  days by another 30 thirty at Immigration if you need to if you do a land crossing

I am pretty certain of this but someone else will confirm for sure

You can go to KL or Singapore and return on the same day

According to this report, Singapore may not be quite so amenable to 'visa-runners' as it once was:

  6. If the Jak office is anything like the Bali Consulate, then you'll have to meet quite a few different criteria, including funds in a bank account, hotel bookings for a week and flights in and out. I booked a cheap flight to Singapore 60 days after entry and then extended on-line (for a small fee) for another 30 once inside Thailand. Timings have been fine, drop--off in the am and then pick-up after lunch in 3 days time.

When you drop the passport off, might be worth checking Friday working hrs as a lot of offices close for a while since Friday lunchtime is the largest prayer time.

The Thai Embassy in Jakarta is right in the centre of town, lots of hotels nearby or you can stay on Jl Jaksa / Jl Wahid Hasyim which is walking distance. Traffic in Jakarta is an absolute nightmare and you're advised to use the TJ buses to get around if possible.

I've been to the Thai Embassy in Jakarta once and the impression I got was that they're more set-up for processing visa requests from Indonesian citizens going on holiday for a week or so, rather than travelers / people passing through.

I don't think Bali is that application friendly. Penang or Yangon would be my choice.

    Wrong !

I've got my last 2 TV's in the Denpasar consulate and the guy there couldn't be more helpful. He used to post here and can be contacted via a message. Lots of blogs have documented the process in DPS if you browse on-line.

Does take 3 days, morning drop-off, afternoon pickup, with the added bonus that Bali is a great place to spend a few days.

Direct flights with AA are not that expensive if you book ahead.

  8. Thank you Ubon for your advise. I was asked for onward airtravel out of TL which I could not produce. I will fly back into Bkk today, I was wondering if I might get denied there too.

Thanks for your help, I will try to find an air ticket now.

Might be worth buying a cheap flight out of Thailand dated for 60 days from date of arrival. The Air Asia flights to Sing and KL are very cheap if booked ahead.
