  1. Hi Jonnyk,

Thanks for your advise on this, but for usufruct I need a TGF don't I ?

To answer your questions, I have been to Issan 5 times now on vacation and love their pace (or lack of it) of life. I've found the people friendly (both farang & Thai) and the cost of housing and living to be very low. I'll be retiring on just a small private pension, my state pension, and rent from my house in UK, so the high life of BKK etc are out of my reach, also I've only got a budget of 3M baht to buy & furnish a house.

As for a TGF, well I know quite a few girls to go out with, and have 1 special one that stays with me whilst I'm in Udon Thani, BUT I'm still far from sure that she's the final one, and I don't want to put a house in her (or anybody's) name until I am sure, Ive read all about the trouble that can happen on a split up and want to avoid this if possible. Also, if I did tie it up legally and was allowed to stay in the home after a split, what would the reaction be when I moved another girl in when she still legally owned the land ?

So back to my question, can you get a legally binding long term rental agreement in Thailand ?

It seems to be my only option until I find Mrs Right !

    Regards,

  2. Hi Guys,

This is my first post on here, and I appologise in advance at asking something thats probably been asked / discussed before, but here goes :-

I wanted to buy a house (house not condo) in Issan, but have no Thai GF to use as a means to buying, so reading this thread I'm quickly arriving at the fact that this is not going to happen.Unless I'm reading this wrong and there is another way to own a house.

I wanted the house to live in and use as I do my home here in UK, and have no intention of using it as an investment venture. Probably live in LOS 3 months, then UK 3 months and so on, until I retire in LOS full time.

Now on reading this thread I'm considering renting a property long term,(probably a 3/4 bed with garden) but if I do I'll put time and money into making the place my home. My question now is "can I get a long term lease off a private landlord that would hold up legally in Thailand ?" I've met a couple of expats (1 Ausie & 1 Yank) who have both told me tales of woe about making a place nice and then told to move on by the owner.

I would hate to spend money and a lot of labour improving the place and garden (yes I'm another Englishman that loves his garden !) just to be told after 6 months that the owner has decided to sell the house (or double the rent as the place is so much nicer) & I have to go elsewhere.

By the way, keep your replies in laymans terms - I'm a bloody sparkie not a lawyer, but reliable upto date info on this will much be appriciated.

    Thanks,

    Mally

  3. Nah, it didn't get to me, I quickly worked out that 400 meter fare, + tolls + tip would have been 500 baht anyway, just don't like being ripped just for being a falang tourist !

When I did the return (DM to BKK) I just gave the driver (who had the meter on and paid the road tolls) 500 baht anyway, he was more than happy. Just have to make sure that they don't try upping the 'fixed fee' when I arrive back in August !

  4. Hi all,

I'm new to this forum, I come to Thailand about 3 times a year, on my last trip in May I was transferring from the new airport to DM for a domestic flight - the same thing happened to me, the girl at the desk gave me a Fixed Fee of 500 baht, then the driver asked me for the road tolls extra, but after I argued that the girl had said fixed fee he relented and paid himself, so it is happening, the desk girl(s) are in on the scam, but as a previous post said, after a 16 hr journey I couldn't be bothered arguing at the desk , I thought maybe this was a new ruling for airport taxis, but on arriving at Udon I was told by some ex pat mates that the meter fare was about 400 baht, I was scammed !
