Like all such mmatters v flexible
One occasion request letter from Immi , take test , licences bike/car issued on spot
Secind occaion K Phet 555 baht with test 1000 baht no test at all , they just checked to see if money real
Third latest
Asked Immi for letter, said you must ask LT Office to write to them
So whole day long drive
They complied but did not notify me
Immi sent reply no to me but to LT Office
Vist 2 sat thru dull flim, pulled reaction test and did color blindness
All in and out in 3 shakes of a lambs tale well 2 hours plus 2 hour trip each way two times (our time ha no value to them)
Amusingly the flim entirely in Thai was on quiet
I listened to some sooting music on my phone as all teh Thais about half a dozen including teh Officer a very nice young lady played with their phones, just like in any cinea cafe or Drs waiting room.
My tip take a book to read in the queue, but as its a bit obvious during the long cmpulsary move wifi in ear heaadphones ...
Did you need to book an appointment in advance or just show up?
-
I have a Canadian DL and would like to “transfer” this into a Thai DL but a bit confused about the process:
1. Can I just show up at Jatujak DLT and request this transfer (bringing along the medical certificate, etc.) or do I need to book in advance online via the DLT website/app?
2. If I need to use the booking system, which option do I pick? I have tried the “new driver” option but they are fully booked from now until December (the last day that is shown).

Don't electronic terminals for cards and/or mobiles need to be connected to an electric plug?
Many street food vendors still just have a 12v battery for their lighting.
Some terminals may even require an Internet access.
Exactly as @moana said above, printed QR code physically posted. SMS chimes in when the payment is received even if the vendor is using a Motorola flip-phone (but let’s face it, how many adults in Thailand don’t have a smartphone with internet access).

Indeed, many expats think Bangkok equals Sukhumvit confined between Onnut and Nana where the swipe locations will be expat bar, restaurant, mall, villa market...
I think a distinction should be made between “can’t” accept electronic payment and “won’t” accept electronic payment. With QR code being completely free for both merchant and customer, there is no more “can’t”, not even for the 25 Baht kapow moo vendor. The “won’t” only comes into play because let’s face it, all these people are dodging taxes - which in itself is a completely separate discussion from what I mentioned before, the cost of cash transportation and how the BOT no longer allows banks to charge money transfer/bill payment fees. The banks don’t care either way if the Revenue Department can increase the tax take, they only want fairness regarding the cost of cash transportation.

Hmmmm, seems to be a lot of confusion in this thread. The Banks and BOT are considering cash withdrawals/deposits at ATMs and branches because there’s a very high cost involved - cash transportation. How much do you think it costs to physically transport millions of Baht to each branch and ATM of every bank in the country? This cost used to be subsidized through collection of fees during inter-bank withdrawal or transfer (e.g. from SCB to KBank). Since the abolishment of almost all transfer fees and bill payment fees the banks are now left saddled with the cash transportation cost. If there were no alternatives I would understand the uproar but with absolutely free and super convenient online/mobile banking I’m truly curious what everybody is complaining about. (BTW those 220 Baht fees earlier in the thread only apply to use of a foreign bank’s ATM card and not applicable to the vast majority of Thais).
I’m sure in the end it’ll be scheme whereby you can withdraw something like 1,000 Baht per day without fee because really, with QR code, Rabbit, Line Pay, Debit and Credit it’s really not necessary to carry that much cash around anymore to make major purchases and all but the smallest of merchants accepts at least one if not multiple of the above payment channels.

They have ATM's every 50 yards in BKK with no fees for locals, including ATM's all over the airport at the same high rent. International travelers represent one of the only groups likely to be using the ATMs to exchange foreign currency (transactions that actually charge a fee). I'd expect them to be climbing all over each other to get ATM's in that area- with the goal of being the first one that an arriving tourist sees.
Unless there's some reason other than rent and the cost of access.
If I understand you correctly you mean when a KBank card holder inserts their card into an SCB machine to withdraw cash, the first 4 or 5 transactions will show "fee: 0 Baht". In this case the user simply doesn't see the fees as the issuing bank (KBank in this example) pays the fee to the acquiring bank (SCB in this example) transparently without the user seeing this bank to bank transaction. The fee the issuing bank pays to acquiring bank is small, on the order of 10 baht per transaction but the sheer volume is enough to pay for the rent and utilities of the ATM. Unfortunately the demand for ATMs of disembarking passengers into customs and immigration at airports is minuscule.
In the case of a same-bank transactions (i.e. SCB card in an SCB machine), SCB doesn't get any fees but they view having the machine there as a service to their deposit customers - something totally out of scope when considering "tourists passing through the air-side on the way to immigration".
Having the machines on the departure side is another story given the demand is high and not to mention the gouging done by the exchange rate!

Why don't the banks install ATM's airside and save all this agro?
ATM machines have a lot of costs involved which in turn requires a high volume of transactions to make feasible (rent paid to AOT would be one of the highest fees). But the key logistic issue is cash replenishment - if these machines were air-side (as needed for this case) then all the cash transport people would need clearance to work the machines. Overall, bigger headache than it's worth for any of the banks to consider installing air-side machines (on the walkway between gate and immigration)

The last upgrade was only done a year or so back? It also took longer than initially planned so don't be surprised if it's still closed at Christmas.
That would be most unfortunate as Bangkok already has so few places to do decent riding without the threat of being run over or bitten by a stray dog. From the proposed upgrades you could very well be right, though. It would seem like they are in effect building a second Skylane running parallel to the existing track and that is no simple task.
-
Don't know if everyone's already aware but I saw this on a Thai news website that can't be quoted that the Skylane will be closed April 11, 2017 for 7 months (reopening November 2027).
The renovations theyre planning look really cool - a second track 23.5km long parallel to the existing track, presumably to separate the different riding types and some additional facilities.
If the improvements are completed as shown it'll be a really nice place but for 7 months many cyclists (myself included) will have to find another place to ride.

Quite a sad and unfortunate event. At least the dashcam footage has surfaced putting to rest spurious talk about how the accident happened.

I guess this is the beginning of the end for True (TV as well as Truemove - after all, if people are going to switch to AIS they might as well switch and get a TV/phone combo package)

First a big thanks to moonoi for pointing out 4iiii and Rotor.
After talking to the shops/dealers I finally went with 4iiii and bought a new crank. Ended up being less expensive than Rotor but my other key concern was portability if I ever buy a new bike (with so many bottom bracket variations the Rotor BB where the PM is contained might not be portable)
Now time to go for a ride and break it in!

With the exception sales jobs and jobs with target volumes, so-called "business travel" is rarely if ever what I would call "productive".
Most of the time it's just a waste of the company's time and money.

My understanding is that the lawsuit has not been filed yet. If the class had been certified, any premium package subscribers would have received notice in the mail. As a premium package subscriber, I have not received my notice.
Referring to my post #11 above the class action suit is in process. As a participant, the lawyers are gathering documentation from (us) the claimants to move forward with the official filing.

If you are looking at needing a new crank as well, then the cheapest option is probably Rotor Inpower, if it fits yours bike. It's around 32k for the PM and 3D+ crank arms/spider. Just add chain rings on top, or use your existing ones if they're compatible.
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkThanks for bring Rotor into my scope of awareness. I'll seriously look into this option as is is probably the most straightforward as well.

In Thai law, here is NO such thing as a "Class-Action" !
Actually there is a law that supports class action. The first class action to take place is the recent suit against Truevisions regarding their cancellation of HBO and related channels.

So young 22 so sad. (reckless driving of young people ?)
The owner where she rented the jeep might be UNSCRUPULOUS Money
safetyfirst !1 Driving a jeep ( jeep ? driver protection limited no electronic stability control no airbags ?...)
2 under heavy rains
3 long distance
4 dangerous roads
5 young woman driving In thailand )
RIP young woman.
Whelp, this time it only took 7 posts to start slamming the Thais again. "Unscrupulous" owner you say? "Money first" you say? Where have those points been mentioned in the news reports? From the pictures shown, the jeep looks fairly new or at least in decent condition and nowhere is it mentioned that they were forced to rent the jeep over another, possibly safer, vehicle. It was more likely a matter of personal choice.
Sad to have had an accident with injuries and a fatality, also sad that the financial burden now falls to others due to lack of insurance.

If you're looking for a crank based PM, then Stages and 4iiii are around the same price locally as overseas, Quarq around 10-15% more expensive.
I would source locally if you can, but forget powertap, the local distributor isn't very good (as you've found just on the pricing)
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkThanks for the heads up on 4iiii, I wasn't even looking at them at first. It seems like they've got a local dealer which is great and I got all excited, then reading up more I found you need to have either a 105, adulterated or DA crank to use it. Unfortunately I don't so now I have to factor in a new crankset into the price as well.....but may still be worth it!!!
-
So the next step in my cycling journey, I've decided, will be to get a power meter. I've seen pedal based, crank based and hub based on the Internet but would like to stay away from pedal based (as I currently don't use clipless pedals but that's another discussion entirely). I've tried sourcing the Powertap G3 hub here but the only place seems to sell them but at approx 50,000 Baht (for just the hub)!!
Given the US price tag is $599, I'm seriously considering buying there and bringing back just the hub and having a local shop install it (possibly for a fee).
Does anyone have experience with buying power meters in Thailand or is the price differential so great that it's worth the hassle of bringing one back and finding a local installer?

Uhhh.....has nobody noticed the level of skill the little boy is demonstrating? Both hands on the handlebars, riding in what seems to be straight line at consistent speed? This kid has what it takes.
(Also, nowhere in the video did I hear the boy speak the words used in the click bait headline of this article)

Wife cancelled our true 2 days ago. She has had 3 follow up calls begging her not to cancel. Asking to just suspend it, then transfer it to a neighbour or family. Told them we are leaving Thailand as it was the only way to get them to stop. Get the feeling they are desperate to keep customers. Must be loosing loads.
Haven't you heard what True's spokesperson has been saying? They've only lost a mere 1% of subscribers. The remaining subs are happy with the new channels and services being provided. Hahaha!!!!!
