  1. Up in the NE the sky is full of pollution and smoke from various forest fires set by farmers and the illegal loggers ... probably enhanced a bit from the southerly dry-season winds from China. It won't be long before Thailand is painting it's hillsides green, same same China did for the Olympic tourists, to pretend like there are still trees and grass growing here.

  2. Back during the "Cambodia Border Emergency" the rice traders were selling rice to the aid organizations and embassies who were providing assistance on the border .... then arranging with fellow thieves for that rice to be returned to them .. only to be resold over and over again. The culprits were finally caught by injecting dye into the sacks of rice so the buyers could see that they had already purchased it (multiple times?) before.

My point is .. what's to keep someone from buying rice at this auction and then simply selling it back to the Govt under the rice buying scheme? As if they haven't already been doing this .. same same their buying rice in Laos & Cambodia border and selling it to the Govt, pretending it was produced in Thailand.

  3. The big problem of this rice marketing scheme according to an article that I read in the media is as follows;

Corrupt rice-pledging officials have sapped 60 billion baht of government cash to Hong Kong through an illegal money exchange network in Yaowarat, a rice miller has claimed.

A banker claimed that corrupt officials used a system known as “Phoi Khwan” to channel cash and cheques through a negotiator in Yaowarat in exchange for money orders that could be redeemed in Hong Kong.

Maybe the million tonnes will be purchased by part of this 60 billion baht .... like a huge pyramid scheme. The appearance will be that they are selling it. Nothing would surprise me.

  4. Give her a break. She is among friendlies in CM and CR. She will discuss with her advisers (aka her brother) about her next move. I wonder if her brother's G5 is setting on the runway at the CM airport? Has she already shipped her thirty steamer trunks full of bounty to CM?

Gulfstream 5 nice plane, over 1billion THB new.

I wounder if Mr T has kept up his payments on it, lov to see it featured on "Airplane Repo".cheesy.gif

Maybe Thai Airways purchased it and this is part of the reason why the airline made a loss.

  5. Back in 2012....

Thai Airways International Pcl (THAI) Chief Executive Officer Piyasvasti Amranand thought his annual review went well. That didn’t stop the board from firing him.

“I just want the board to explain the reason,” Piyasvasti said at a media briefing yesterday. “It’s ambiguous. The performance of the company during my term has improved in every aspect and I passed the evaluation at 86 percent.”

--The big question remains: Why did the old CEO (who had done a good job) have to be replaced by one that made huge losses.....

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-05-21/fired-thai-air-ceo-blames-politics-over-business-southeast-asia.html

BANGKOK—Thai Airways International PCL said Monday that it dismissed President Piyasvasti Amranand in what analysts said was a politically motivated move that could further damp the outlook for a flag carrier already being hit by high fuel prices and weak demand.

The company didn't provide information on who might succeed Mr. Piyasvasti. Executive Vice President Chokchai Panyayong has been named acting president until a selection committee finds Mr. Piyasvasti's successor, Chairman Ampon Kittiampon said.

--I guess the analysts were right.....

--So who was that genius that made Thai Airways loose 12,000,000,000 THB

A member of the government of former prime minister, Thaksin Shinawatra, who is living in self-imposed exile in Dubai, Sorajak was the only candidate for the job and is expected to start in November. He has no previous experience in the airline industry.

Thai Airways (THAI) president Sorajak Kasemsuvan has resigned from the post (in Dec 2013) citing health problems

probably Piyasvasti wasn't red enough. Same same that singer in CM whose performance was cancelled. Like the Communist countries, in Thailand don't expect anything unless you are a member of the party .. i.e. the CPT ... ooops I mean the PTP Party.

  6. Just back from six days in Luang Prabang. Busy wee place and quite a few higher end tourists, still lots of backpackers though.

Mrs wanted to do the alms giving one morning and the only locals to be seen were the ones selling food to give the "monks". whistling.gif.pagespeed.ce.FVjgnKnWS1.pn

Recent article in some magazine said there aren't enough locals left in Luang Prabang for the monks to get enough food and tour agencies now supply their food. If you noticed, the tour agencies now lay out the food offerings and at the last minute the minibus loads of tourists rush in and the tourists go and sit down behind the food (for the monks) that has been laid out.

In my opinion this makes the alms giving thing a sham. It's suppose to be a religious activity giving local buddhists the OPPORTUNITY to give alms to the monks for making merit. But then again ... not many locals left. It's become a kind of Lao Disneyland ... although I must admit it's still a charming place if you don't think about the reality.

  7. Until a single Cambodian is arrested and charged with insurgency and linked with proof to these atrocities I have nothing to say to you or your tin foil hat.

Until then as far as im concerned it is simply Thai killing and maiming Thai nothing more and no tin foil hat mystery.

PS If it is ko tee etc it is still nothing more than Thai vs Thai.

    Sweet dreams frog prince.

So now we know where you stand. Thank you. Providing arms, services, shelter and training to criminals, killers and terorists is not a crime in your book. It speaks volumes about you. I'm pleased we've cleared that one out. Incidentally, how does it feel to be on the same side with children murders? Best regards from Jakrapob Penkair...;-)

You are the master of spinning. The Navy SEAL declared that attack was perpetrated BY FOREIGN FORCES.

Rightly Englishoak wrote until there are no proofs, is only irresponsible rumor mongering.

And then you come out with the "Providing arms, services, shelter and training to criminals, killers and terorists"?

Navy seal wasn't talking about that, but the attack was done by foreigner. Don't spin topics and what posters write to achieve your agenda.

That's what the article (interpreted) said. Unless you heard him speak in Thai and can understand Thai, you don't know what he said.

  8. After countless trips to and in Cambodia, I have never heard a Khmer speak bad about the Thai people. Most of those of them who live and work here are fluent in Thai within a year. They even have a golden statue of King Chulalongkorn at Wat Phnom. Thais, on the other hand... but that goes for their relationship with all neighbouring countries except Laos.

I agree. I have also has many trips into Cambodia, and cannot recall ever hearing

a Khmer speak badly about Thai people. It is the Vietnamese that the Khmer dislike.

My girlfriend went shopping at a Thai - Cambodia market recently for the first time. All her life she has been fed the pap that Cambodian people are bad. When I picked her up later in the day, she had this amazed look on her face and kept repeating how nice all the Khmer people were that were selling stuff there....

You both should visit the border areas, I mean beyond where you have your passports stamped and the market where they sell trinkets and khromas, and talk to the villagers there who enjoy occasional shelling from the Thai military as well as constant confrontations (with thai farmers) over the border line. But to get beyond the fluff you need to understand Khmer. You may be surprised what those market vendors are saying about your girlfriend. I too have enjoyed countless trips to Cambodia and have a lot of sympathy for those who live in the border areas (on both sides).

FYI, I lived in Cambodia for years. Now, I live in Bangkok with my Cambodian wife. I can speak Khmer. I know Poipet, the Lang Kue market and Aran at the border since 20 years. By the way, I worked at the border in the past. But if you consider you know better than us, this is OK.

Well, we should not post or discuss about this Navy Chief's declarations. ALL OF US know what he has in mind when he makes such stupid statements. Just ignore him. It's already worrying enough to know that Thai people will listen to him, we don't need to "chitchat" about that.

I was responding to zakk9 and eyes wide open with that post ... but OK. I agree also. No more chit chat. Truce. We simply have different perceptions on some things. The truth isn't easy to find. We each have different pieces of it. Probably (without doubt) none of us have the complete picture. I will try to keep an open mind and am interested in what you have to say.
