For those who suffer it's no laughing matter and is extremely frustrating not to mention tiring. The term allergy is correct in the general sense of being a reaction, but it is important to classify the symptom. Running nose is a common factor. Seasonal allergies and those related to plants, animals, chemicals, etc are typically accompanied by eye irritation as in red eyes and tears. Sneezing occurs. Most people associate sneezing and runny noses with this form of allergies. It's the body that is reacting. A different type is when there is rhinitis and running nose occurs without warning and can be with clear fluid. However there is no eye irritation. It can occur more frequently in specific conditions such as indoor vs outdoor. It is an allergic reaction but it is more like the nose itself that is reacting and not the body in general. Since allergies with all these reactions occur frequently with people and there are no simple ways to narrow it down quickly, most doctors prescribe medication that works across the spectrum. Unfortunately this isn't so great for those who suffer the latter condition rather than former. The medications typically have ingredients that combat rhinorrhea (runny nose) and decongestants for stuffy nose. In simple terms antihistamines and others for rhinitis. Most also include ingredients that can cause drowsiness, etc. For those in the latter group what is most effective is something azelastine which is defined as a receptor blocking medication with antihistamine properties. Normally a nasal spray. When used regularly it has a rapid effect on reducing or eliminating the runny nose. Usually effective for about 12 hours. No oral medication is needed. Probably the best practice is twice a day nasal wash followed by azelastine. In rare cases it can be a condition of leakage of the brain fluid but this should be accompanied by other symptoms. If azelastine shows no effect or improvement then maybe it might be a possibility. I'm not a doctor, just a person who has fought this condition and have found relief in some form.
