  1. I've had an iPad since the first one was released, I think they are a fantastic product. I've never had one go wrong but they have one weakness. The only accessory I would recommend as vital is a good strong case because if you drop it (when you drop it, falling asleep on the couch and it slides to the floor.....) the glass breaks easily, a good case with reinforced corners to absorb the shock when your Baht19000 iPad hits the concrete. Its well worth the money.

  2. Just one alternative suggestion. I had a similar problem about a year ago. I noticed that the water in the toilet bowl ocassionally bubbled back, I found that the stench pipe (the tube that runs from the pipe between the toilet bowl and the septic tank and allows gas to escape to atmosphere) was blocked thus as gas was generated in the septic tank it bubbled straight back through the toilet bowl. Not sure if it applies to you as it sounds like your house in new and the tank should be empty.

  3. The results don't mesh with the economist survey earlier this year that showed it to be the most expensive city in the world. So, possibly they are basing it on certain, selective criteria. For example, maybe if you don't drive and don't have kids (and don't drink, or eat.....or go out, ......................ever!) then perhaps the results are explained. It really is a meaningless article unless they show how the results are obtained

The phrase 'But the Republic is still competitive, compared with Indonesia, India, the Philippines and Thailand, where inflation is typically 6 per cent year on year,....' to me is meaningless, how do you compare an island 25 miles by 8 with Indonesia? Which part of Indonesia? If he had said Jakarta, then it might have made sense.

  4. Mandatory - meaning 'you will do this!' Thats ugly! Our world is full of such rulings and they restrict our freedom of choice. Some are necessary of course, but surely we should think carefully before bringing more restrictions on people.

To mandate that every visitor should have health insurance is a little short sighted. Some people study the situation, and decide that they can self insure, they have enough resources to cover the likely cost of medical treatment. To make them also take out insurance would be pointless. Others (I'm thinking of budget travelers) probably have no insurance (I certainly didn't when I was 18!) but hopefully could contact friends or relatives if they had a problem.

However, it is wise that people should have something to fall back on in case of emergency, so rather than mandatory insurance make it "insurance or other means (i.e money) or a letter of guarantee that someone would cover the costs (though this would be abused)"

  5. I applied for and received a multiple entry, 12 month, non immigrant o visa based on visiting my wife and child a week ago. I am over 50 and my business is outside of Thailand. I supplied marriage cert, tabien baan, copy of wife's id card, copy and original of bank book with 400k plus passport copy and copy of my sons passport (can be birth cert)

Received the visa next day no problem, but what was interesting was that they told me I wont be able to do this again. In future all non O multiple entry visa's must be extended inside Thailand. i.e. get a 3 month single entry outide Thailand and then extend at your local immigration office.(or if you have a 12 month O visa extend that in Thailand) They did ask me why I hadn't done this and I truthfully said I was in KL on business, I think my answer to this question was crucial to their decision.

Reason I hadn't applied for the extension inside Thailandbefore is that I have read of people having hassles and it was easy to get at the embassy.

    Hope this helps someone

  7. Hi Chris B! I've lived in Songkhla Town for over 10 years now, can truthfully say I've never felt threatened in any way. There have been bombs in nearby Hat Yai, but realistically what are the chances of being next to one? very small. It may well be different in the South of the province, but in the town - no problem. Whats life like? - its a great little town, quiet, but you can create a lively lifestyle if you want. Give it a go, I dont regret it

  8. Does sound bad! Just one point though, I've flown into Kl three times in the last 4-5 weeks on Air Asia and was told we didnt need a landing (immigration card), turned out to be correct, the immigration guys didn't ask for one. I think they use the biometric chips to read the data from the passport rather than the hand written cards
