  1. Thank you for your replies. Now all I have to do is figure out how to operate Windows 8 and not get stuck in some weird application if I accidentally touch some key. I'm reduced to using the hunt and peck method of typing in fear of touching the wrong key. WHAT A PAIN THAT IS!!!

If you are struggling with Windows 8 on a laptop, try using a mouse, it calms things down a lot compared to using the touch pad. Also have a look at W8 tutorials on youtube, you will be up to speed in no time.

  2. A quick update. I gathered all my papers together today and went to Chonburi immigration in Jomtien. Filled out the TM7 and was given a ticket for desk 1. The guy behind the desk had a cursory look over my documents and asked for my bank details. I gave him my passbook, he said I needed to have the money in the bank for 2 months prior to application for the visa. I was given a list of requirements (attached below) he then told me to go to desk 5. I explained to the woman behind the desk what I was trying to achieve and was told I had to go to Chaengwattana in Bangkok. As far as I could understand this was to get the non immigrant visa, I would then have to apply for a marriage extension in Jomtien. All in all not a successful day.

Could anyone point me towards the official documentation or web page or for this please.

Can't get attachments to work, will try again later.

  3. I am British and have recently entered Thailand on the last entry of a triple entry tourist visa. Is it possible to change my tourist visa to a non immigrant visa in Thailand or do I need to go to another country or back to the UK to get a non immigrant visa?

The marriage extension requires B400,000 in a Thai bank for two months or B40,000/month income. Is a combination of these acceptable (say B200,000 in the bank and B20,000/month income) or must I have one or the other?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

  4. Ho, You Dastardly Dick, you. I can't tell from the photos, How many H.P.? it looks like a 3 metre tray. is it?Does it have drop down sides?Where abouts will it operate ? Carting what? Congrats, it looks good. Bill

It's a 10hp motor, it feels rather heavy and underpowered, maybe we need to lower the gearing a bit. Yes I guess the tray is about 3m long, the sides are fixed. It's up in Nongbualamphu province, main task is to haul sugar cane about 7km to the local factory.

  5. Could you possibly post some pictures of the front end of the gearbox.

Im interested to see how the belt drive & clutch are mated.

I've been toying with the idea of building something like this myself.

    Thanks

Here you go PL. Just financed this one, it cost around B60,000 "new" excluding the engine. It has lights, indicators and electric start. Power to the clutch is transmitted by three V belts, another belt runs to the alternator.

  6. going from Pattaya to bangkok there is a Toyota dealer on the left hand side. [past the one on the right hand side]. Across the highway from them is a store, cant remember the name, that completely accessorizes cars. GPS [many to choose from, iphone connections, English spoken, etc etc. good service and great inventory

Sounds good. So I assume this place is on the East side of Sukhumvit somewhere a little North of Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, does that sound about right?

    yep

    Boy Air and Sound?

  7. sharecropper is mostly correct.

Access to the courts for most cases is not easy for local reporters.

Many do not know this and it is something I don't publicize too much, but our team also produce news for National TV stations such as Channel 3, Channel 9, Thai PBS and some national newspapers. They only want to publish or broadcast the crimes themselves and are almost not interested in the sentencing for those involved, as most of the time this is a big anti-climax to the story, assuming the case even gets to Court.

We report on the news as it happens and then move on to the next day and a new set of stories. There is so much to report on in this city that the daily batch of stories keep us well and truly flat-out busy! I guess if I had a Newspaper, then I would use that to round-up the cases and publish a "Court Report", assuming I could get hold of the information. I am surprised some of the local newspapers don't do that.

I guess you have a newspaper now :-)

  8. I have had Sophon internet since May (4mb service) but contrary to what a number of posters have said mine is definitely piggy backed on the Sophon TV cable that was already laid to the house? The house is in a village in North Pattaya.

As I also ended up taking out Sophon TV I have a splitter on the cable that comes out of the wall. I was told that this did not affect the signal at all but would be very interested to hear from anyone who can technically vouch for this or explain why this is not true?

Their service has been excellent. I have had a number of issues but these have always been very quickly resolved by the contact at the Sophon office in Pattaya Tai. If I ring his mobile and get no answer he has always rung back and if necessary has come out to the house that same day.

Sophon cable on Pattaya Tai,Are u sure about that??????

The Sophon Broadband office is on South Pattaya road about 100M West of the junction with 3rd Road.

  9. I used a basic digital camera on an overcast day to avoid glare and clipping and basically laid the print flat on my porch floor. I shot in RAW mode and imported into Photoshop CS5 for cleaning. There is a new cloning tool for such corrections and using this action the clean up took about 10 minutes. CS5 as demo can be downloaded free and is very powerful.

    This is the "before"

    And ten minutes later

I actually added the grain to emulate the original canvass effect. A little bit of a tweak in curves and gamma and finished.

Wow, quite a transformation. What tools/ techniques did you use to get rid of the creases/folds/missing colour?
