  1. Go to Siam Square Soi 1 and go to SCB there.

Explain that you're about to begin work as an English teacher at Go International (Which is located round the corner). SCB have an 'understanding' with them and you should have no problems getting your account open without work permits etc. If they ask questions simply tell them you will be starting work in a few weeks but wanted to get your account opened in advance.

At worst, they'll politely refuse our application and tell you to get more documents but I don't yet knbow of anybody who's been rejected.

Best wishes, sounds good thanks guys

  2. Hello buddies

i just called in Singapore Thai embassy, they told me that they are issuing only single entry non O based on mariage.

My plan was to go there in 2 weeks to get a multy entry!!

Someone could tell me where to get a 1 year multi entry non im O visa based on mariage in south east asia?

    Thanks for your help, cheers.

i have just been refused a muliple entry non o at the thai embassy in london. the man informed me that no more muliple non o only retirement visa o-a which you need extra paper work
  3. Pay someone to store it in their garage, run the engine to carry the battery and run it round to prevent brakes from rusting up. Make a note of milage and photograph it inside and out in the presence of that person to avoid 'misunderstandings' when you return. On the cheap leave under a cover at the airport long stay carpark with battery disconnected? Or come to an 'agreement' with the short stay car park supervisor, if you know what I mean? (Probably cheaper)
thanks for your reply. but what i need is a recomended address or car park
  4. hi guys, can anyone inform me of the opening days of the udonthanni immigration office. i believe it is in one of the hospitals. sorry if i have duplicated this question.

You have and I answered you before.

It was staffed by Nong Kai office one or 2 days a week, but it closed a year or two ago.

Looks like a trip to Nong Kai. (Lucky You)

thanks, not a bad run from udon. sorry about the double posting
  5. Thanks for the advise.

    A few more questions:

    1) Any recommendation if a bottom or top berth is better. The bottom berth is larger, but not sure if the person up top has to step on the bottom berth to get to the top. From the photos, it looks like the bottom birth is nice.

    2) Also, I couldn't tell if there is any bedding provided (pillow, sheet, blanket?). I heard that the air-con might be kind of cold at night.

    3) I was checking the availability online and it looks like the 18th of September is booked up (first and second class). Its the only time in the month that it is booked full. Sound like a big party will be going on that night (I definitely want to avoid that).

    4) Can I go to the Bang Khen station near Nonthaburi to check availability and book my ticket, or do I need to go to the main station? Or maybe the online email system works?

    Thanks

i agree with all that has been said in favour of 2nd class aircon. but beware it can be very cold. your bed will be made up containing a cotton bedsheet, a pillow and a bathtowel for a top cover. there is a cold shower cubicle but they often lock it, best of luck, i'll be doing the same journey in october
  6. Hi All

Just wanted to let all who may have followed my story or offered advice know that today my wife picked up her passport complete with brand new 2yr settlement visa, and we are both extremely happy after an anxious couple of week of not hearing anything from the emabssy.

Not even an interview or a phonecall - just 2wks after submitting the application we had a message on the UK Vac website saying the application was ready to collect. Initially we thought it was a rejection as it seem to emphasise that the application was ready to collect rather than the passport more importantly. My wife jumped in a taxi after i called her to tell her something was ready to collect, but that it may well be bad news. Instead she collected a large envelope containing all our papers along with passport and complete with visa!!! Amazing really and im still a little shell shocked at how easy it has been!

To be fair i put a lot of effort into the supporting documents and if anyone would like me to upload them please let me know. I will be happy to edit out the personal bits so people can see the template we used and use it if they like.

One quick question - are we able to purchase a one way flight from thailand to UK or will she still need a return to satisy passport control?

    Cheers all!!

hi jaylord. i would like to upload your settlement documents. how do we go about it. thanking you in anticipation. jbd
  7. Apologies for having to raise this gruesome matter - which, hopefully, will not happen for many more years yet in my case - but I am in a bit of a quandary at the moment.

I am a UK citizen currently resident in the UK, but moving to Thailand from end-October. In my UK will I have stated my preference for cremation and for no ceremony of a religious (i.e. Christian) nature. However, my sister (who is my next-of-kin in the UK) has advised me to make these wishes known to my Thai girlfriend, who is a Buddhist.

I understand from other threads which I have read on this forum and elsewhere that a Thai Buddhist funeral ceremony is quite different from a UK Christian one. My preference at the present time would still be for cremation (in Thailand or wherever) without any religious ceremony, just as would be the case were I to die in the UK. However, would I be likely to upset any cultural sensibilities and cause major offence with my girlfriend and her family were I to insist on such a course of action (notwithstanding that I am not a Buddhist)?

Any comments regarding this delicate topic would be greatly appreciated.

i had the same thoughts. i visited the uk embassy, and was informed that if i died in thailand as a uk citizen the police will forward my passport to the uk embassy and they will contact my next of kin. who will instruct the embassy on what to do with the body. my advice is to make sure your next of kin knows your wishes. also your partner in thailand needs to know of your wishes as well

  8. Take a taxi from Suvarnabhumi using the Motorway onto the Express Way and then onto the Toll Way to Don Muang.

Pay all the Express Way (2) and Toll Way (1) Fees (you have three of them) and only 1 or less hour to Don Muang.

Fees where in Jan 2008, (Express Way 25 baht, 40 baht) and (Toll Way 30 baht), plus get a Meter Taxi, (cost ???) 50 odd kms to there. Added bouns, no traffic lights and no stops.

    Good Luck,

    Yours truly,

    Kan Win :o

    cheers and thanks

  9. hi, i lived on samui for a few years. when i thought i might need a lawyer i was advised by another expat to go to the mainland for my legal work. i also asked my landlord, who is samui born and he just replied bangkok. the british embassy has a list of lawyers. i imagine it will be on there web site. by the by my legal wants never materialised. so only heresay. best of luck

  10. In heavy traffic hours, I do the following...

    1. Taxi from Swampy to BTS On-Nut station (150-200 baht)

    2. BTS from On-Nut to Morchit (60-70 baht?)

    3. Taxi Morchit to Don Muang (100-150 baht)

This is the fastest, most reliable means I use. In lighter traffic, and if I have a big enough wad of cash--taxi all the way.

In both cases, I'd allow 3 hours between flights.

    thanks for your help

  11. Eva has probably the worst food in Asia I reckon in both business and economy. It even makes TG food look like 3 Michelin stars.............

  12. my tgf will be applying for a uk tourist visa next year. she visited the uk 2 years ago without any problems. since then i have read the visa section has moved out of the embassy and i can't seem to find the address of the new application center. can anyone help with that also any tips for the application

  13. It further alleged that businesses investing in Burma were not doing so for altruistic reasons, but because they were attracted by employment conditions that could be described as favourable to employers: normal salaries are less than 25p a day, unions are banned, there are limited health and safety laws, and the minimum working age is 13.

name and shame the companies that trade with the dreadful burmese junta

  14. If you recently opened a bankaccount in Bangkok without the need of a workpermit, can you please let me know what bank and the branch.

I have a friend who has failed in all the branches he has been to and I have talked to the office where I have been doing all my business transactions for the last 3 years if they could help, but they said "no workeprmit, no account"

    Anyone?

    Thanks

    RR

same thing happened to me a few years back. i was refused in all the major thai banks on silom. i arrived in samui and was accepted by the first one i tried which was SCB. i have never heard of anyone being refused there.
