  1. 80 baht for a haircut? Cheap Charlie! If you want it styled to your wishes, go to a better shop (unless you're lucky and find a good cheap one; they exist!).

I've paid 50 baht for years, but then I don't have much hair, and there's not much that can go wrong.

    50! You've been ripped off. I've never paid more than 30. tongue.png

  2. In today for the 90 days.

Queue number 690. Current queue number on arrival 638.

Still in and out in 35 minutes. Pleasant chat with a couple of guys, nice iced Mocha from the shop.

All in all not at all unpleasant. It's what you make it!

Would it have still been been not at all unpleasant if it were, say, 2 hours?

If that's what it took I would deal with it accordingly, not a big deal really is it?

Guess not, if one has nothing better to do.

There's always the option to use the visa service company, or send someone else to do it for you, if your schedule is full. smile.png

  3. Thai teens dont fight without reason , either he did or said something wrong as apparently he was intoxicated.

Of course the Farang must have done something weong. As you said "Thai teens don't fight without reason". Yes, he was intoxicated and a Farang so this nice mob of 6 teenagers had the opportunity to beat the crap out of him.

"Thai teens don't fight without a reason", really, you should get out more.

  4. The best self protection is being "streetsmart"..don't get drunk, don't get into any stupid discussions in bars, don't stare at people, don't interfere with other peoples business, don't walk around the town at night for the last beer...just chill out and be cool and enjoy yourself..

.......or don't visit Thailand at all. Behaving like normal people, there's no need for any type of self defence weapons in Thailand. smile.png

  5. I regularly use Villa at Sukhumvit 33/1 and at Paradise Park in Srinakarin Road; to date have never had a problem buying alcohol at any time of the day - although I have never tried after midnight they have in the past totally ignored the 11.30 am - 2.00 pm and 5.00 pm - 12.00 midnight rules.

I do hope they have not been forced to discontinue this since the rule is more than a little irritating - I don't want to have to do my weekly shopping at lunchtime or after 5.00 pm because the traffic is horrendous!

I plan to go to 33/1 on Monday and will report back if there has been any change.

    Patrick

As you're doing your weekly shopping, you can buy your alcohol at any time. The rules doesn't apply to buying 10 litres alcohol or more. smile.png

  6. I don't hate 'Thailand'.

I just don't like Thai culture, society or the average Thai.

Which is why I'm perfectly happy having almost zero interaction with them while living here in a nice, pretty country. smile.png

Works for me. But I guess haters gonna hate. wink.png

If I remember correctly from your earlier posts here, you are Thai married and have a 50/50 child. You are going to have an intesting marriage, if you are showing no interest in your wifes culture and background. Not to mention, you are not making life easier for yourself.

Yes, I'm 33 and I've been married here for 5 years. Child coming soon. Luckily she (the wife) is one of the non-retarded Thais and has almost less to do with the average Thai than I do. wink.png

When you get one of them, you're set for life. smile.png

In other words, she's one of the Hi-So Thais, that most members are married with.

  7. Personally I would just wear what you have, of course I'm not hung up on clothes like so many people around here are.

To put this into perspective I offered a job paying 4,500,000 baht a year to a guy who showed up to the interview in shorts and sandals. It would take at least a 10,000,000 baht a year paycheck to make me consider wearing anything nicer then a t-shirt and jeans to a job interview.

But will you be able to retire before you turn 30 though?

I'm sure there are ways of doing that without working. smile.png

  8. Some questions on the computer test are vary ambiguous. Could possibly think that at least two of the 4 answers would be correct.

One I got wrong was when should you not drive. (a) after having a drink - I presumed alcohol (cool.png If you think you are going to have a heart attack. Can't remember other two answers. Anyway I put (a) but the correct answer was (cool.png!!! Now I think about going for a medical check each time I feel like going for a ride. Another one was when are you not allowed to overtake. (a) on a zebra crossing, (cool.png when passing a school entrance © where there is a bridge (d) can't remember. All could have been correct but the one they want is when there is a bridge. If you can think like a Thai then you should pass - think logically then you could fail.

Fail the computer test and you can retake after about an hour. Fail again and can come back the next day to try again. You are also allowed to have three goes on passing the practical but on three differnt dates.

Yes the practical is easy with the exception of the raised concrete strip about 20 metres long and 3 inches wide. I failed the first time as I could not understand the Thai instructions given before the practical which apparently were to 'not to go slow but to keep up a reasonable speed on the raised concrete slip'. Come off the concrete slip or put your foot down then it is a fail. Some places don't have this raised slip.

Yes you are right most tourists who rent motorbikes here do not hold a valid licence. But the rental shops don't care, it's the money they want.

Purchase a decent helmut if not given one free when you purchase the bike, then wear it. You might not be the cause of an accident, but the victim, The majority of motorbike divers here have no road sense or care about other traffic. Don't be another name added to the statistics of those killed while riding a motorbike and not wearing head protection. Not saying a helmut would save your life but you have a better chance of surviving an accident if you do. While on my preachers pedastal- don't drink and drive.

A friend of mine could not do s part of her practical

    How is this possible? blink.png

  9. Yes their is a test you undertake for understanding the road rules. Don't know about CM, but in Pattaya it's a computer based Q&A, need to get 23 out of 30 questions to pass. If you fail first time can retake same day. Actual driving test is a farce, so easy to pass.

Do not omit to obtain accident & medical insurance coverage.

Can you send me the questions? biggrin.png

They are in English presumably? I doubt the pass rate would be very high if they were in Thai 555

In Pattaya questions in English for foreigners, imagine same in CM, but someone will confirm soon. Got caught out by a question if military tanks can drive on civilian roads, stupid me said no.

Yes they are in English. And I failed on the same 'tank' question, thought the military could do anything. biggrin.png
