  1. 'Thanks for that advice. To further complicate my issue ( bearing in mind that when I signed my lease, the TM30 was not being generally enforced ) I do have the lease, but the only 'details of the owner that I have is his telephone number Line ID and bank account to which I send my rent payments. Again, the landlord is disinclined to provide any other 'details' or documentation and I hate to create problems by having to 'blow the whistle' on him (even thought he seems to be forcing me into it) Again, I have tried to explain and furnish all relevant info and websites in Thai language. I also worry about requesting 'details' from condo management and possible repercussions.

Do you have a lease with the landlords details.

Immigration may accept that as proof of address.

Don't wait until you need to report or obtain an extension, go to Immigration with your problem now.

I've witnessed first hand what Immigration can do in these situations.

  2. regrettably, I failed to say that the landlord is unwilling to provide any assistance to allow self reporting (owners blue book or other docs) Further, I know of cases where the farang tenant has indeed been fined although he only stayed at a hotel within country which was apparently reported to Immigration ( this is in regards to Bangkok Immigration if that matters )

But thank you nevertheless for your input and help

  3. Anyone have any clue or advice in the case that a condo unit owner (landlord) will not/does not comply with his TM 30 requirement to report to Immigration. He is also unwilling to assist in any way to allow me to report myself. He seems to feel that this entire procedure is without consequence to him or me in spite of several attempted explanations. What will suffice as evidence that I have notified him upon return from any other place that has reported my stay away from my principle residence ?
(Example; Will a Line/whatsapp message be enough proof?)

Thanks in advance for any help with this issue ~

  6. Lek looks nervously at the Patong sea shore as he describes the passengers who climbed into his tuk tuk minivan late at night on 6 January.

"Go to Kata Beach", the seven foreign tourists told him, after agreeing on a 200 baht fee.

The scale of the disaster may have taken time to register

He drove a while, but then felt numb all over his body.

Looking around he saw the cab was empty. He had had what he thinks was an encounter with the ghosts that many say are haunting the beaches and resorts on Thailand's Andaman coast.

And the religious charms he wears around his neck are not helping him overcome his fears.

"I can't get over this. I'm going to have to get a new job. I have a daughter to support, but I'm too scared to go out driving at night," he said.

Lek's experiences are by no means unique.

Other apparitions which have been reported include a foreign woman, whose screams echo through the night from the wreckage of a hotel that was particularly badly hit.

A security guard on the site has already left his job because he could not bear it anymore.

In Khao Lak, a local family say their telephone constantly rings through the day and night. When answered, the voices of friends and relatives cry out to be rescued from the flames of the crematorium.

Such reports, according to psychologist Dr Wanlop Piyamanutham, are signs of post traumatic stress disorder.

He pointed to the fact that many stories started to appear about 10 days after the wave struck.

That was when the real horror of the loss and devastation hit people, he says. Now it is spreading beyond those immediately affected.

"With all of the pictures on the television, and everyone talking about the disaster, it affected many more people, who have reported seeing ghosts and smelling corpses," he said.

And Dr Wanlop has an explanation for why such a large number of "foreign" ghosts have been seen.

"Foreigners make a big impression on Thais," he said.

"They're physically imposing, and often seem rich and powerful. If people like that die in terrible circumstances, it's not surprising they should come back in people's minds as ghosts, especially when they have so far to get home."

  7. THAI EXECUTIONS ON NET

Thailand is to make live internet broadcasts of prisoners' last moments before execution in a bid to deter lawbreakers.

Cameras have already been installed at Bangkwang maximum security prison near Bangkok where nearly 1,000 inmates are facing death.

Nathee Chitsawang, corrections chief, said: "The internet will show how we treat the convicts in their last minutes, including the preparation process.

"But at the time of execution, the viewer will be allowed to see only part of the process."

The broadcasts are designed to deter people from breaking the law and reduce the number of drug dealers, who face the death penalty in Thailand.

The move has been opposed by Amnesty International.

A spokesman said: "The website should not show activities inside the prison and should be mindful of human rights and show respect to the prisoners."

Cameras were installed in a cell in Maricopa Country, Arizona, in the US, several years ago but a court ruled last year the transmissions should be stopped.

One of the appeal judges said the practice constituted "a level of humiliation that almost anyone would regard as profoundly undesirable."

  8. The DTAC main office in the WTCenter is where the problem was identified; (that my device is locked) the nice tech there even called the local Sony Ericsson office for me. Sony Ericsson would not be bothered because their guarentee isn't international and only applies to products sold here in Thailand.

I guess I'll canvas the halls @ MBK next week to see if anyone there may be able to help.

  9. I brought a Sony Ericsson GC83 GPRS/Edge "Air Card" to Bangkok from the U.S. hoping to use it after registering with DTAC Network. Unfortunately it seems that AT&T (the system operator in the states) locks the device from functioning with SIMS other than their own. I wonder if anyone knows if "unlocking" is possible (some shop in MBK, maybe?)
