Samui had this problem for years, people getting attacked & allsorts. 3 years ago they were supposed to use the meters but have only just done so with a whopping 90baht start price...use the baht buses whenever you can
-
An agreed price should be upheld whatever you are paying for wherever you are in the world. Give someone an inch & they will take a mile goes the saying...stand up for what is right

Nathon for me was the best choice, clean & friendly, get a room though, cost is about 1,000 a night. My Mrs gave birth there a few years ago & at the same time 2 other women were shipped up from the private hospitols in Chaweng where they had paid 30,000...after the birth they went back to Chaweng...expensive room for a few days... nurses I found speak reasonably English.

No offence & it doesn't make the actions of the Taxi Driver right of course but if they Guy wants to avoid using the Toll & keep the money for it, just let him, how much are we talking here ??
50 BHT ??
80 BHT tops ??
Big deal..
& tell your Husband to not negotiate with them as they don't always stick to the negotiation as he unfortunately found out, but use a Taxi Meter ONLY, that will help ALL of us if we ALL do that, possibly make more Taxi Drivers use their meter ( as much chance of that as you have of the Police doing something & something happening to this Driver if you reported it ) & it might stamp out more incidents like this one ..
I know it is frustrating but this is Thailand & Thai people will continue to do these little frustrating things every single day & iff you can't get used to it & let them get away with it once in while, you might want to re think being here..
I hate it when the Petrol Station Boy tries to rip me off by short changing me on purpose, or when the Taxi Guy fumbles around with the 10 Baht coin change from a Bangkok Toll but you either get used to it, or maybe Thailand isn't for you..
It doesn't just happen in Thailand either so i'm not just Thai Bashing..
You go to rent a house, agree 7,000 a month....suddenly when you go to pay your rent they want 12,000....hey only 5,000 more...big deal......principle man...agree something , anyone with respect will stick to that agreement.

Errrr...excuse my cynicism old boy, but don't you mean .....
you bought your Thai wife or gf a house, and if SHE sold it now for 700,000 baht more than you gave her to buy it, SHE would make 700,000baht profit, plus the original sum that you donated?
Cant foreigners purchase through a company or leasehold. Is the only way to buy property like this guy says.

My sis in law makes 12,700 a month in 7/11...plus discounts etc
Not in K.Phangan....
They earn more in K.P or less. Thought it would be the same everywhere

Must be able to do it, there are a few guys on E Bay that sell them new....at a fraction of the cost in the UK...Honda Waves go for about 1,600 pounds, & these guys are making a profit selling at that price. They are well over 2 grand in the UK new...

There is a certain girl that works in a certain bank in Lamai, that was in a certain club in Chaweng that went with my mate for 1,000 baht.....about says it all I think......respect where it is deserved

Smaui is still a great place, although not what it was & it has changed a lot in 4 years..some things good...some things not so good....maybe try Trang or Prachuap Kiri Khan...up & coming places with fantastic beaches, far better links than Samui..still cheap, relatively quite but with major towns close by if you want Big C etc etc etc

Here Here Nan Laew...well said

I know at least 3 REPUTABLE girls...wont say exactly where they work but you would be very suprised that go to Mango etc.....almost everyday......how do most of these shop girls on 6k-10K a month have 12k phones, motorbikes(not rented or on the drip) & a little gold...think about it....
-
Say it with flowers ....that will sort the bad from the good.......flowers would be dead befor they made it back to Issan......unlike the quick ATM transfers
-
Being here so long you get to see what the real girls are like......freelancers definatly the worst....didnt like using that word as someone previously quoted what the dictonary said about freelancers....no security with them either...can rob you & be off.....pay a bar fine, at least you get a bit of security. Always the same...about 10-12 days & then it is "you can help me"....blah blah blah.......do girls get taught this in school......the worst bit is her father is at home getting drunk & too lazy to work....really just makes the parents pimps........do a google search of your girlfriends email address....be amazed what that can bring up..........internetting is very popular now with the girls.
-
Exactly..well said...hope it dosnt cloud your judgment too much....there are some very trustworthy loving girls out there that will treat you with respect...both shop workers & bar girls alike...

I have known a call in Lamai for 4 years now....worked in various shops, overseas call, internet shops etc...never done anything with her...but she is a real one when it comes to money....buffalo sick, car payments, rice crop no good.....any excuse to get a bit of cash outa people. Personally I found bargirls to be more honest, at least you know where you stand with them.....go to Fushion, Bahous, Green Mango...anywhere, it is full of "shop girls"...see what they do at the end of the night & you may have an insight into what they are really like
