That's all great, but when are they plan on offering 3G in phuket, AIS has been offering it here for the last few months, when I asked the local Dtac shop here as when they are going to gt 3G here they said they don't have ANY date. Looks like my only choice is to cancel my current Dtac unlimited data plan and go with AIS 3G instead.

It would be wise for both sides to ask for and use (perhaps privately so Thailand can save face as an independent nation) the assistance of USA mediation -- after all, a country like the USA which has 250+ years of experience in democracy may have some good experience and ideas; whereas Thailand has less than 80 years, and all of it fraught with coups, tension, and conflict. Thailand should realize it is in the infancy of democracy and needs to understand how to deal with it.

Nothing wrong with speaking German. I have skype installed on my iPhone 3GS/16gb fw 3.1.3 using DTAC (with the internet plan) and I've called U.S many times both SKYPE to SKYPE and SKYPE to Landline (via wifi at home) since of course Apple (Meglomaniac Jobs) like to control us idiots who purchase thier products and wont allow you to use skype to make phone calls (skype-skype or skyp-land line) on Edge/3G.

Iam using the iPhone/skype on my 3BB (formerly Maxnet preimere Internet svc) and the quality is perfect no complaints.

I would think your problems is whatever internet svc WIFI you are using that is the cause of your bad quality call, the iPhone and skype both can so this minimal task your bad connection is for sure the fault here.

Try to use some the speedtest apps on the iPhone or you PC for that matter and see what UP/Down speed you get, since you say you cant hear your connections voice well you would think its your DOWNSTREAM that is lagging but chances are its your UPSTREAM is even worse since Downstream is usually at LEAST 512k or better and that is plenty for a voice call, UPSTREAM on the other hand its a crap shoot what your provider may give you. If your ISP has everyone in your whole village sharing the same DSL trunk line, and god knows these cheap ass bastards will squeeze as many users as they can on a single trunk (a perfect example is the low voice quality you get on AIS/DTAC cell wireless they shove as many callers on by downgrading your QOS) then you might want to try the call at very late hours when there is typically less people sharing your line.

The Thai government is pompously declaring that they are going to seize all of Mr. Thaksin's money because he got it thorough graft. He owned a telecom giant and sold it, legally. If anything is illegal, it is probably the government's entire case against Thaksin. I am not a fan of old "square face," but he is no worse than any other highly-positioned Thai. As graft and corruption are SOP in Thailand, the government trying to seize his money is probably the purest case of irony I have seen in a long time. This is a FACT.. I purchase many many things online most of the time from the same site, and EVERY package that was unregistered NEVER arrived but all the packages that were registered arrived. This is in Phuket (Kathu to be exact)

its a simple and proven I even tested it .. 5 different items sent UNREGISTERED and they mysteriously disappeared not a trace of them (I went to the local postal branch and tried to research it many times OSAMA would be easier to find then these packages) but 5 items that were REGISTERED arrived. The addresses were the same and all sent from the same location...

Morale of the story: If you want your package to arrive no matter what it is if its not registered with a tracking number, then save yourself the postage/grief/parcel, or you can be courteous and just post it to a random employee of the postal service, after all that's most likely where it will end up anyways..

Well if you need Inet access ASAP, you can go wireless in pattaya with HUTCH mobile, from my understanding is HUTCH supports the Central Thailand areas (bangkok and pattaya), where as CAT supports northern (chang mai and iisan) and southern (phuket)..

HUTCH is located near that giant telecom world shopping center. they are NOT inside the center but off to the left a few stores down..

I have a CAT telecom card and I tried to use it in pattaya and I was told that pattaya/bangkok is under HUTCH so I had to purchase a HUTCH wireless card to access the net while in pattaya.. So now Iam apparently covered for all of thailand having BOTH cards haha.... I use HUTCH in pattaya and bangkok with no problems its like 300baht for 1 week unlimited or 1k baht for 1 month unlimited..

In Phuket I have CAT telecom for 1 month unlimited for 1k baht a month and it worse prefectly as well...

I opted for the slower 128k card from HUTCH since I only visit pattaya occasionally but since I live in phuket I got a EVDO 2mb card (but In reality I get 500k-1mb which is pretty good) both hutch and cat telecom offer the same cards for thier respective services.

I have a cat telecom wireless ev-do card that gets me unlimited 500-1mb speed that I can live with for only 1kbaht a month. But I really need a landline for other uses but at least I wont be left high and dry with NO inet access

Yes I really need to find out what the hel_l is going on with claimed 16k installation.. I was hoping for 2.5k I would at least get 1mb oh well... its actually quadruple the cost for $70 u.s dollars approx what 2.5k is You can get 20mb+ connection.. I have $65 for my cable here and I tested my line at 15mb/6mb down/up .. yes I realize I am not gonna get anything near that but 1mb for 2.5k baht would have been nice!..

I have a question on cost here, I know this was is in pattaya, but I just requested a quote for ADSL installation in my house in phuket and I was quoted 16k for install and 2.5k a month... is this normal?? this seems way more expensive then I was aware of it to be!

I was just quoted 16k baht just for installation of ADSL line to my home in kathu phuket, the house has 4 phone lines already but no DSL, and when I requested them to install DSL they quoted 16k install and 2.5k a month??? this is by FAR more expensive then I have ever heard it to be..

My question has anyone here installed DSL here in phuket and if so what was the installation and and monthly cost?

Please if you have done so let me know, I need to figure out what I need to do here..

Ive noticed in general, thailand is cheap for many things, except for electronics and automobiles..

computers/tv's/camera and such are more expensive then for the same item, if you bought it in thailand as opposed to the U.S

I can understand why, its mostly taxes/tarrifs levied by the government that makes it expensive

But for the life of me, I still dont understand why used cars are so expensive in thailand, the same car in thailand goes for dam_n near 3 time the price as it would in U.S

Are you not allowed to bring personal effects like computers etc to thailand if you are moving there for a few years without getting taxed??

I would love to bring them over via the check in baggage option but Iam already using my allotment of two bags for my clothes ... how do I go about finding out about the freight shipping from the airlines??
