  1. I'd actually like there to be more English speaking expats in Bangkok. Make BKK more like HK and it would be awesome!

Not enough English speaking expats? There's tons!

I try and avoid most of them. Most that I meet especially the ones over 40 tend to be the sort of people I would prefer not to mingle with - deluded, mental problems, alcoholics, full of their own shit, sexpats etc.

    1. How old are you?

    2. What's your job?

    3. Why did you come to Thailand?

    4. What are you hoping to achieve here -- what are your long term goals?

  2. I'm having a wonderful night.

The inlaws and friends are down for one of the family coming out of the monkhood and we've a houseful but all the blokes are in my den having a crafty drink watching Spurs battering Villa....

    1-0 at HT (to Spurs)

So wonderful you're sitting at the computer talking to us, while all that is going on. Must be great.

    Sweet. But obvious.

    "I'm having a wonderful night"

I guess some people just don't understand irony.

  3. Hello.

It's Heavy Drinker's wife again. (Patsaporn). Thank you for your kind responses to my post. There is one thing I would like to add which is that maybe if you don't think about being Thai/Farang too much and just get on with being a couple together it may be easier as well.

We lived in London for 2 years before we came here and we were just a couple. Sometimes we would get a comment but on the whole nobody gave us a second look. When he got the job here only ever then was it an issue but not even that much as we're the same age and I'm probably not that pretty.

    Thank you for reading.

QUOTE: It's Heavy Drinker's wife again. (Patsaporn).

QUOTE: I'm probably not that pretty

Here's a polite tip for you: stop writing trash. And tell your husband to keep you away from the keyboard.

  4. I've taken second-class sleepers from BKK to Nong Khai and Hat Yai. Everything was fine. Keep your valuables safe, though.

I've also booked first class cabins from BKK to Hua Hin and Surat Thani to BKK. This was okay, but I'd only recommend this option if you know the person you'll be sharing the cabin with.

I like trains. They're safer than buses, but they're often quite slow.

  5. I think you need to eliminate country to get an honest answer...what does a man want when they marry a woman, Thai, Chinese, Antartican etc? If you could distill the answer and put it onto a book, it would be a best seller.

on the darker side I think there is the need for perceived control by the man, ( maybe it is an evolutionary reproductive advantage to be this way) which a Thai woman, to the unwary and uninitiated, provides, though it doesn't necessarily always follow that this is true. I think the more uninhibited/ tease/ sometimes coquettish combination style of the sexual exploits of Thai woman

( compared to western counterparts )is a lure too. There is an an apparent femininity exuded by Thai women that western women rarely exhibit openly for fear of letting down their feminist mothers/sisters, especially when it comes to choosing a mate. I think men find Thai women attractive because the provide what men desire without making them feel guilty for such attractiveness, make them feel manly, make them think they are useful ( true or otherwise) give them a sense of worth (which is not my experience with western women), make them feel sexy and sexual, which similarly I have rarely experienced in the west.

There is a iron hand in an ermine glove that makes Thai women irresistible. thai women don't normally nag, or at least they disguise it with charm and wit. Western woman complain Thai women are so obvious in their approach, but subtlety doesn't work on the average man, not the ones I know well anyhow. So I expect my needs to be fulfilled, but I also fell the need to reciprocate for it to work properly. With a Thai Woman I can feel like a King, a provider, a stud, a bastion of support at the same time as allowing myself to be vulnerable and sensitive and not so much in control. Sometimes it's good to hand over the reigns to your Queen, someone who you trust, who will protect your integrity and your emotions unconditionally.

When you find a Woman like her, Thai or otherwise, like I was lucky enough to do, marry her and never look back

    You need help.

    Professional help.

  6. Finally, yes your finances have "FA" to do with me, but if you are interested in dispelling this notion I have, maybe you'd wanna let me in on how you widdle away $8,000 a month if not on booze or girlfriends/gifts for girlfriends.

    8000 USD = 240000 Baht (approximately).

This could be consumed very easily by, for example, 100K in rent and 100K in school fees.

But I do agree that claiming to spend 8000 USD per month and then stressing that the actual breakdown has "FA" to do with anyone else is VERY SUSPICIOUS.

  7. you can't underline this enough:

never use advisers who cold call.

    Yep, best advice of all.

Cold callers work for dodgy companies. Always avoid.

I invest with Rothschilds in Guernsey and Credit Suisse in London. These companies do NOT cold call.

And nor do other reputable companies.

  8. Interesting, but how is this Thailand-related?

Because it relates to wherever we live and I specifically ask did moving to Thailand move you on the pyramid.

It is also very relevant to discussions between members on this forum which relate to personal needs.

    OK, I'm with you.

In my case, I'm at a higher level now than when I first came here.

  9. Some can clear 60k with that. Just curious then why pick Thailand?

Maybe they get paid more here. Maybe their wife wants to live five thousand miles away from her family. Maybe they are on the run from the law. Maybe Tony Archer will be video ref for the World Cup Final in November. It's pointless to speculate

    SC

Agreed. Best not to speculate. Best to keep your mouth shut.

Here is an old photo of me. But please ...... let's keep this quiet.

  10. I would presume to say most of these types are SERIOUS alcoholics and sex addicts and spend spend spend. For me, I live on about $12,000 a year, so we are talking about a little less than a year and a half. for those of you who can only make it 5 weeks or even 5 months for that matter, you better have a good look in the mirror at your excesses

I presume to say you presume too much...

I presume to say that you must either be a bones of their arse "English teacher" or a retired gertiatric cheap charlie, whose pension has gone down the toilet with the exchange rates.

The point being how somebody spends of their own money has got FA to do with you.

If your personal finances have "FA" to do with others, why have you discussed them so often on this thread?

Methinks you might be inhabiting a rather cozy little fantasy world. Nothing better than forum anonymity, is there!!!

  11. Were there no warning signs as you were digging the hole for yourself?

only that stand out now....not whilst we were in the relationship

I am also fortunate that I can hold my temper as looking back she goaded me many a time, even attacked me swinging punches etc when she had a drink and didn't like what she was being told.

Were there no warning signs as you were digging the hole for yourself?

    1. only that stand out now....not whilst we were in the relationship

    2. looking back she goaded me many a time, even attacked me swinging punches etc

So the REAL truth was there all the time.

EDIT: When a Thai woman insults you or puts you down or attacks you, it's finished.

  12. Most ladies in Europe are obese. Here in Thailand very hard to find obese people.

    No.

What you should be saying is that most ladies in Europe that you could get are obese.

    Funny. And usually true.

  13. Now, this is interesting.

It seems that Business Class (Thailand) Ltd has registered capital of just 2 million baht.

How does it get work permits for all those smooth-talking cold-caller boys?

Even more interesting: it posted revenues of exactly ZERO in 2012. Its expenses during the same year were a whopping 5,000 baht.

    Can anyone say "hmmm"?

    Interesting, but far from surprising.

These "companies" are usually nothing more than a name and a website.

Oh, and an address such as suite 402/c; level 6; Hollywood Towers; Sathorn Road; Bangkok.

  14. Another tip: the address in Pacific Place 2 really turns me off. That has been one of favored locations of boiler rooms for as long as I can remember.

I know of at least two boiler rooms that had offices in Pacific Place.

When checking out these outfits, google the names of their top executives. You'll get nothing.

Always make a note of the names which these companies give themselves. Many names are quite amusing. Off the top of my head, for example, you could have:

    1. Kensington Investments.

    2. Mayfair Consultants

    3. Belgravia Financial Planning

    4. Kennedy, Berkshire and Marlborough

    5. Kleinwort DuPont

    6. Boston Asset Management

    7. Harvard Strategic Consultants

  15. I was an English teacher for 13 years here and disagree. Many luuk kreung were spoiled and many were from broken homes. My kids aer aboce average in their class but not geniuses. Obviously their English is well above the rest.

    1. I was an English teacher for 13 years

    2. My kids aer aboce average

I love your irony and sense of humor!
