  1. "The Tourism Authority of Thailand has revised downward its projected tourist arrivals for this year from 14 million to 13.7 million due to the economic crisis and the Kingdom's political problems, newly elected governor Surapol Svetasreni said yesterday."

    1. When does the TAT start with transparency details on a month-to-month basis with easy access to it's numbers for everybody who's interested, instead of dropping a total number now and then when it suits them ? :)

    2. If someone see those numbers (especially the expats) it's hard to believe that more than 55% of the total tourism to Thailand is coming from East Asia: meaning: 7,981,025 tourists (from 2007 numbers when Thailand had 14,464,228 tourists).

25,5% is from Europe and the rest is divided by The Americas -just 5,65%- South Asia -4,74%- Oceania -5,06%- Middle East -3,14%- and a few from Africa.

This number contains also more than 3,2 million so called "tourists" from countries like Malaysia, Burma, Singapore, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam; hardly the kind of tourist the western expat has in mind when he thinks of tourists.....

Also: those numbers include many repeating travelers from the Asean countries, especially also from Malaysia who cross the borders in the South (Hat Yai is a frequent visited city for sex tourists from Malaysia, already since decades)

Also: the total number (14,4 Million) include tourists who travel also to Laos, Burma, Malaysia, Cambodia etc. but land first in BKK or Phuket (for instance); the total number also include many expats/visa travelers, crossing the Thai borders multiple times per year.

IMO the total number of REAL TOURISTS is not more than 7 to 8 million; maybe 9...... :D and so much for the Blah-Blah from TAT :D

    LaoPo

And from these 7-9 million, maybe 2 million are going to the neighbors...Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam :D:D:D

  2. The government will be there before and after the rally, all this will do is help people adjust their travel plans and take their winter holiday in another country..

It's such a shame, instead of promoting the kings birthday and inviting people from far and wide to come and celebrate and join with the Thai people and see real thai culture and to be part of a wonderful historic event...we have this vengeful rant sullying a special time.

It will be interesting to hear his majestys comments during his birthday speech.

Taksin, Jutaporn and Jakrapob - Buddism 101: Desire = Suffering, (You desire power, you will experience suffering)

I don't understand why these idiots spoil the touristseason again. Who want to spend holidays here under circumstances like riots and demonstrations. I'm sorry for the peaceloving 90% of the Thais. :):D:D

  3. There is nothing in the Thai judicial system that is worth respecting

Well, he got one thing right!!

"There is nothing in the Thai judicial system that is worth respecting" whether Abhisit said this or not

I have to say never have I read truer words on TV. IMHO the best way the Thai Government could have

handled The appointment of Thaksin as an ecconomic adviser for Cambodia would have been to say that

they wish him well in his new position and that they hope he will help strengthen Cambodia's ecconomy

but will continue to try to bring him to justce.

    agreed 100% :):D:D

  4. Before anybody speaks about this, they need to understand that I have been working in politics when the Thai prime minister was still a child.

Sort of thing that Samak liked to say.

Anyway, we all know what Hun Sen was up to when Abhisit was a child and it's hardly something to be proud of.

Since when running a nation is personal. I thought the elected official (if they are truly elected :D ) is supposed to work for the good of the nation not themselves. Oh well is Cambodia after all :)

    :D:D:D

Thai woman and lover jailed over murder

THE THAI wife of a Harborough-born man has been jailed for life along with her lover after being found guilty of murdering her husband.

Ian Beeston (69), who grew up in Knights End Road, Great Bowden, was clubbed and stabbed to death in Roi-Et, north-eastern Thailand, on August 9, last year.

A murder trail started last Thursday and standing accused of Mr Beeston's murder were his 43-year-old wife Wachariewau Beeston (nee Kongmee) and her lover Songjit Channondon (49).

Unlike British law, where trials can takes weeks if not months, Thai justice proved swift.

Statements for prosecution and defence were given last Thursday and a Roi-Et courtroom found the defendants guilty.

The hearing was adjourned until yesterday, when Mr Beeston's wife and Channondon were sentenced to life behind bars.

It is believed Mr Beeston's wife denied the murder charge and that Channondon admitted assault but denied intending to kill Mr Beeston.

Under the strange system of Thai law, after Channondon was arrested last summer he was taken back to the scene of the murder and showed onlookers how he had clubbed Mr Beeston to death with a bamboo-like cane.

A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, said yesterday: "We are aware of the sentencing of Wachariewau Kongmee and Songjit Channondon.

"Both have been found guilty at a Roi-Et courtroom and given life imprisonment for the murder of Mr Beeston.

"We are in close contact with the family."

Father-of-two Mr Beeston was described as a 'lovely chap' by neighbours in Thailand.

It is believed he moved to the country ten years ago and invested his £350,000 life savings in a guest house and restaurant.

A former pupil at Market Harborough Grammar School – now Robert Smyth – and a member of the town's air cadets, he moved away from Harborough when aged in his 20s.

His body was found in a blood-soaked room and Thai authorities said Mr Beeston may have taken as long as seven hours to die.

Mr Beeston's step-sister Hilary Dew, now of Worthing, told the Mail yesterday: "I'm pleased to hear they have been found guilty and that they are being punished.

"Being this distance away it's difficult to add any more."

However, she did query the thoroughness of the Thai legal system, given the brief tenure of the court hearing.

Mrs Dew's father, Arnold Tipper, married Mr Beeston's mother Lilian, but they both died in a car crash in Berkshire in 1966.

The full article contains 424 words and appears in Harborough Mail newspaper.

death sentence would be better, in the same way they killed the poor fellow :):D:D

  7. If 20,000 baht was not found on them such a short time later, it's possible the Indian guy made this up to try and get extra compensation. Without sounding racist, it's unlikely he would have 20,000 baht in his wallet. The 1,000 baht they took was probably his budget for the next 4 days that's why he was so pissed off.

    crap :):D:D

  9. Strange story. How will the police be able to determine who is a gang member and who is not? Checking employment papers is ever weirder. They have a Thai ID card unless the government suddenly passed a law that Thai citizens need prior permission to travel and need to register with the authorities this is just small talk.

While we all know that Kathoeys can be quite literally a pain in the ass and that they behave often very unpleasant I do not see how the police could crack down this way without crossing the line. Let's hope for this overzealous officers that the ladyboys do not put them on candid camera, as the entire force in Phuket would panic again when they find themselves at Youtube....

The bottom line is that Thailand becomes a police state. only in police states you can arrest people and fine them BEFORE something has happened.

    laborcamps for ladyboys....what a nice idea. :):D:D

  10. The 'gone native' guy sitting at a cheap crappy noodle stall happily looking smugly up at other farang as they file past

Miserable, cynical female farangs giving 'that' look as you walk past with your Thai partner

Losers trying to pass themselves as English teachers (you know who you are)

The <deleted> shouting in awful bargirl Thai while I'm trying to play a game of pool

The same guy saying "dalling" and "I go with you" jokingly at regular Thai girls

The farang thug (increasingly getting common this) behaving in an aggressive friendly or friendly aggressive way towards other drinkers

The farang on the small nonaircon green bus...get a f**king life will you

The disillusioned sorry-arsed red leather faced sex tourist with no ticket home propping up a bar on Soi Cowboy or anywhere in Pattaya

The old queers who have retired in Pattaya trying to live a 'normal' life in and around Pattaya, who have nothing to do but cruise Sunni Plaza

Ditto sad straight losers above who strut around with their dog-faced ex-bargirls in tow

Anyone trying to live a 'normal' life in Pattaya

Expats who still believe that Pattaya is home to Thai culture, because they haven't been anywhere else but Isarn

The group of drunk good ol' boy tourists on the train trading obscene gogobar stories with each other as if nobody in hearing range could possibly understand what they're talking about (myself included). I'm sure a number of the Thais must also understand and be offended.

Koh Samui is the new Torremilinos by the look of things recently

Get a life yourself, instead of worrying what others do.Have you ever wondered how people look at you.Go back to were you came from and judge the people their

    Bet you have a gottie.

    100% right!!!

  11. I read in another topic, from someone whose daughter worked in Immigration, he said in a post that others can be fined if they have not reported someone they know for a large overstay or for another passport or visa offense.

My question is this - Is this true or not?

I welcome any answers even those who love to criticize, as I often do.

It can't be true. Not in LOS.

  12. Seeing all the latest topics on here about everyone wanting to move to Thailand and how long it took you etc,I wonder if theres any posters on here who dont wish to live in Thailand full time.

Reading some of the posts on here can be depressing to read all about the unhappy people who cant wait to get back to the LOS,and others posters working 3 jobs to save to live in LOS full time.

Isnt there anyone happy to live in the Western World and only want to visit Thailand once a year or stay a few months or less.

Isnt there anyone who prefers to live in the west with their Thai wife and doesnt want to live in Thailand?

Surely there must be some of you who are quite content with your life in the UK or Australia or wherever you come from.?

    Is there many of you?
