  1. Hi,

Can anybody recommend me a place to sell 2nd hand Isuzu Econovans.

I have three of them (1999, 2007 and 2008) and want to sell one.

Just a place/tent besides the road, who are specialized in these kind of small trucks.

For the people not familiar with the Econovan, attached a picture.

    Thanks,

    Soi105

  2. Thank you for you reply.

    - I will buy the raw materials in Laos and put a little added value on it in Laos and export worldwide by seacontainer. Sorry maybe I was not clear enough. But it's 100% Lao content.

-I am thinking of paying the labour by piece (so they can end up with +/- 3$ / day).

-I fact a warehouse is not really necesary, A quite big house with big garden is also Ok.

-When I pay by piece the people can work at home, and I alone need some quality control people and people who take care of the stock and load the container at my home.

-Are there big houses for rent in Laos. I am also planning to live there for 6 moths a year.

-Are you sure I have to pay import duty in Thailand when I export from Laos directly to Europe... overland by Thailand in a sealed container... That sounds strange to me.

    Thanks again for your reply.

I really enjoyed Laos, and when something is not possible I will find a way around it.

Same like in Thailand. But when I cannot own something 100% I will not buy it, only rent.

Sorry something went wrong with my first post.

I am thinking of moving a part of my production from Thailand to Laos.

I've visited Laos twice, and I like the place. Next week I go by car to search for location, warehouse, etc..

    I have a few questions:

-Is it difficult/possible to own 100 % of an export company based in Laos?

-Investment will almost be nothing 100-200.000 THB

-Purchasing will be +/- 10.000.000 THB / year all local.

-What are the minimum wages for uneducated employees?

-Is there a lot of difficulities to get the finished goods in container over the border to the harbour in Thailand? No need to pay import duty in Thailand when the container goes directly to the harbour?

    Thanks,

    Soi

Hmmmm, my first question is what are you looking to export?

The answers to your questions are:

    - Yes you can own 100% of the company in Laos. However having a foreign name on the company will make life not a comfortable as if it was a Lao name, mainly due to them being far more keen in extracting tax from you!

    - Investment doesn't really matter but below there is a few issues with this.

    - Purchasing what? Remember you are in Laos if you buy things from Thailand and being it into Laos you will pay import tax (well until this ASEAN tax treaty takes effect).

Minimum wage .. .. hmmm depends on what they are doing! 20,000kip (about $2.10) per day is common for basic labourers, but like I say depends on what you want. Here ingeneral they work 7 days a week but have the 'wan sin' (main Buddhist day) off, basically 2 or 3 wan sin per calendar month. But there isn't a minimum wage as such in Laos.

In regards to shipping anything over the mekong to Thailand - you will pay tax - regardless, same coming into Laos.

Ok, now for the possible show stopper - you talk about looking for a 'location, warehouse' well first thing you need to know is you probably won't find one. Well not one that isn't in use anyway. The basics are if you want to open a company in general you'll need to build the warehouse and offices, Vientiane (I guess this is where you are considering) isn't exactly over brimming with warehouses for rent. Obviously the catch 22 here is if you want to build a warehouse you'll need own the land which you can't do being foreign (although there is some loopholes - I am informed by a solicitor but these aren't fully confirmed).

Land on the Route 1 from Friendship bridge to Vientiane is very pricey (well for Laos) a 2000+ baht per sq metre. Obvious for a 100m2 you talking 2mil baht at a minimum. The road which leads to the ITEC (right turn at the main lights on Rt1) is also prime land at similar prices. If you are looking at this area be careful as ALL the land behind the Beer Lao factory to Nong Nieng (about 3km+) is all earmarked for sale to a Chinese developer who is intending to build a new city there!

On a side note if you need run large machinery then you will need to factor in the cost of a transformer since the standard supply in general has not got much ampage - sure they'll install you a 20/80amp meter but you won't get 80amps!

I am kind of confused as why you would open an export company which relies on raw materials from Thailand in Laos! Surely the added tax here will be too much of an overhead? If you were source and producing Laos then I can understand it.

Anyway have a read of above and if I've got the wrong end of something then let me know or if you need any other clarification let me know also!

  4. I don't know about Surin. In Bangkok many bars have no drink licence. Around the Sukumvit Area there are 2 choices or official drink licence or pay the police monthly. The cost are almost the same.

Don't be in a hurry in renting another place, TIT, finally the local cops are the ones who have to maintain those provincial government rules.

    Good Luck

    ==============

Well, I guess this will be bad news to some 13,000 people and good news to around 20. The Surin provincial government in it's immense wisdom has decided that after 10 years, The Farang Connection is too close to the Wat to be attracting thousands of visitors and has withdrawn it's drink licence. Actually it has taken the drink licence off all pubs, restaurants and genaral dens of iniquety from everyone within 50 meters of a Temple. ( where of course in Europe a lot of the real good beers are brewed) Where will this madness stop? First, they ban the sale of alchohol on two of the busiest weekends of the year,( which should cut tourism by half) now come up with this ridiculous ruling. I am not even sure if it is just Surin or wether the ruling is nationwide. What do our members think?
  5. I went today to the Hutch shop.

The contract between Hutch and CAT has stopped. Hutch expect to sign a new contract with CAT next year for using CAT's CDMA network upcountry

    Can anybody confirm the above?

So I am thinking of switching to CAT. Anybody experience with their network upcountry?

I've got a CDMA Airplus USB unlimited package with Hutch.

I used to work great for years for emails, and still does in Bangkok and surroundings.

However, when I use it now upcountry my password is rejected everytime.

I cannot use it on places where I used it before upcountry.

I know that Hutch make use of the CAT network upcountry. Did they change anything recently.

Should I change my pass / username when I enter the CAT network? Something I never did before.

  7. Ok, I need a new accountant.

My officestaff handle all the documents, deal with labour department, witholding tax etc..

My accountant only have to make the final financial statements and take care of the Revenue Department.

    I pay the accountant 120.000 THB/year.

Every year revenue depart "must" give around 1.000.000 THB on VAT returns, because I only export.

Till now I never received 1 satang from them, the accountant tell me they can also not help me.

Does anyone know a good accountant with connection within the revenue dep.

    Thanks.

  8. The Isuzu I buy is not a passenger car. It's a truck.

Trucks are not allowed to drive in BKK during certain time, unless you have a permit

    2) The exact same permit to drive in BKK 24 hours/day is 38.000 THB vs 50.000 THB

Don't remember ever having one of these when we bought our Ranger last year, what does it do?

  9. Thank you for your good info. I will use it for sure.

The price difference between the different Isuzu dealers is really amazing, I just have a closer look.

    1) The exact same body at one Isuzu is 630.000 THB vs 690.000 THB

    2) The exact same permit to drive in BKK 24 hours/day is 38.000 THB vs 50.000 THB

    3) The almost same coolcontainer for at the back of the body is 200.000 THB vs 290.000 THB.

    4) insurance etc... same story..

It's really worth the time to shop around :o , probably it will not be the same big differences for passenger cars (pick-ups etc..), but when you have the time... I would certainly do it

    =================================================

I put 15% down on an Isuzu D-Max Highlander 3.0L auto with a list price of around 800k a few months ago and got finance over 4 years at 3.5% or so which is like an APR of 6.5% (on depreciating balance which they do not use).

    Your 920k on 85% = 782k finance which at 3.5 (6.5) = 18,556 per month over 4 years and 23,979 over 3 years. 2 years is 34,847.

Just a little thing about Isuzu. When I first went to look at their trucks and those from Toyota, Isuzu were slightly more expensive but when I came to buy, they had removed the cost of the aircon from the window price and you had to add on 20 odd thousand. It might be that the 90k you are seeing is the insurance, options, aircon, tax, service, etc. etc.

Oh yes, I could not get that low deposit im my name, I had to use the wife. I would have needed about 25% to 40%.

  10. I take a down payment of 15% and payback 3 years.

So I can not apply for the 0% :o

    Hi

I have no idea about isuzu, but Chevy has always offering 0% intrest IF pay 50% of new Truck price as downpayment

rest should be payed with in 2yrs, i got my zafiral last time like that and they offering Captiva witht the same deal plus the extras as well.

I went shopping today to buy a new truck for the company. I am gonna buy a Isuzu NKR Price around 920.000 THB. I noticed 2 things

    1) There are big price differences between several official Isuzu dealers, up to 90.000 THB.

    2) There is also a big interest rate differences between the several finance companies.

Anyone have updates of the current finance rates? I know if the dealer arrange the finance, they will get a part (kick back) of it. So I think it's better to go to my own bank

    Thanks :D

  12. My first VAT refund was three years in the making. Even then, I only received about 50% of the VAT due me. Now, I get a check every month and its about 90% return.

Can anybody recommend me a good accountant? I export for almost 10 years and never received the VAT. The only way they give (a part) back is examining my books very close, and then they will ofcourse aways find something what is not 100% clear, and then the fine is always almost the same as the refund :D

My current accountant informed me that monthly VAT refunds can only be done for companies with yearly turnover of more than 100 Million THB. I am just under that :o I can only apply for the yearly refund.

    Thanks

  13. I have contacted 10 different webdesign companies in LOS by email, to design a website and host it.

No any one replied to me. Even the sponser (designer/host company) of Thaivisa.

I have a company in Thailand, and when a serious company contact me for an order, I will reply in one hour. They have no any reason to assume I am not serious.

    Just curious.
