The Ex was LAPD and showed me this chokehold. It is designed to cut off blood to the carotid arteries. When it was shown to me, you begin to lose consciousness immediately. You will be unconscious in less than 10 seconds. Use of this chokehold is banned by the LAPD and it is considered deadly force--i.e. the only time you can use it is in a circumstance in which you would be authorized to use a gun. The reason is that alot of people were being killed by it. It is safe on someone who is healthy, but someone who is not it can easily result in death. I'm one of those folks who has medical conditions where it would result in death. This chokehold should never have been allowed to be used.

My vote is that in Thailand anything 400cc is a big bike. And that's because it is rare (though becoming less rare) to find bikes above 250cc. Most are the scooters. So if you ask a Thai, they would say 400cc and above.
USA, obviously is different. There are no "motorcycles" less than 250 cc (it would be a scooter). The only 250s available are the Ninja and the CBR, and these are considered beginner bikes. Most of the bikes in the USA are 600cc or above and would be middleweights or supersport class. Liter bike or bigger is a big bike in USA.
Keep in mind that in the States, motorcycles are actually allowed to ride on the freeway (not like Thailand), the roads are actually checked and potholes are actually repaired (unlike Thailand) so that it is safe to go high speed on a bike. In the USA for freeway riding, you need the power to avoid cars cutting in front of you and anything else. In Thailand, alot of that is just wasted because even if you have a literbike, they won't let you on the freeway/toll roads.

Pink Floyd without Roger Waters is just not the same. Like the Rolling Stones would not be the Rolling Stones without both Mick and Keith, or the Beatles without both Paul and John. I love Roger Waters. I love David Gilmour. By themselves, they are good. Together the total was greater than the sumo f the parts.
And Roger Waters' Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking (His first solo album after leaving Pink Floyd) was one of the greatest albums I have ever heard. (Roger Waters got Clapton to replace Gilmour). The entire album was recorded to actual time. Beautiful concept. I always thought that had it actually been recorded by Pink Floyd, instead of Roger Waters bringing on hired guns, it would have been Pink Floyd's greatest album and would have eclipsed the Wall and Dark Side of the Moon.
And yes, I know that Roger Waters could be an ass. Roger Waters has acknowledged being an ass (and being an ass to Gilmour) while in Pink Floyd. But still...not the same without him.

Actually if I understand it correctly, the police actually have to buy their own bikes. (Not like in the West where it's a government vehicle.)
And yeah, if you're wondering what happens to your bike that you tried to import without having a green book...

This is my bike(s). I have no problem going to a DLT to ensure a smooth transaction, however I am not in Thailand.
Could you please post some link to your claims that valid greenbooks are revoked for non operation? I have just spent alot of time trying to substantiate the claims.
-
Hey does anyone have any links to posts or actual law about losing the green book after 3/6 years. It's my TZM we're talking about here, and my legit registered and green booked FZR has not been registered or used. Thanks.

Yes, I would think the multiple rapes would result in prison sentences, not just a monetary fine.

I just voted that I wouldn't go and I would convince others to avoid it. Why?
submaniac, you are right about the safety. That is not the issue though. Thai and foreigner alike do not believe what is happening there. We are all dead certain that it is family members of a well connected individual on that island. Until RTP allow independent (and being that this is a British Citizen perhaps Scotland Yard would be the polite thing to do) body to run the DNA tests I doubt any of us will believe what is happening.
If you go to Koh Tao you will be paying into the hands of the rapist/killers. I won't believe otherwise until a reliable body is allowed to examine the evidence.
You may be right about that (actually probability is favoring you). I'm not in country right now so I am not as caught up on the information surrounding the case. I do not think that itis likely to be repeated given the scrutiny that is on the area, but from what I'm reading on TV news, I do smell a cover up as well. With all of the mishandling of the case (the multiple arrests of people who were subsequently released) as well as a concern that the police may have forced confessions, I would change my vote to not go.

I do not see why it would present a problem to go. After what has happened, and the subsequent scrutiny by the police and public, I would think that the island would be one of the safest in the country. Let's put it this way, I find it highly unlikely that there would be a repeat of what occurred anytime in the near future.

I agree with your sentiments, but ...Interesting avatar you have under the circumstance.
Avatar is a result of losing a bet with CharlieH. Really. You can ask him.

Someone should have told him, 25 or 50 million, his penis will still be the same size!!
penis size vs. a whole shitload of money.
Which do you think will be a more successful tool in pulling in birds?

Sorry guys, I do not see why I should find it humorous that another human being was the subject of a sexual assault, whether male or female. I hope they catch the perpetrators, and I wish the victim well in recovering.

Are we sure she was a bargirl???? ONe thing that happens is that on TV there are so many posts related to BG, but then again I don't know if everyone who posts on TVF assumes that any Thai female is a bargirl.
I mean did she have a big sign saying "Bargirl" on her? Did she say she works in a bar in Pattaya picking up men? How are we sure she is a bargirl??
The reason I am asking is that it is much harder for a Thai to get a visa to the West than it is for a Westerner to come to Thailand. (Especially a 3 month visit.) Most places would require a demonstration that she has sufficient financial assets in Thailand that she would return to Thailand. That or fiancee visa, or employer sponsorship...or something.
Read reply 17 from the OP. "She told him she worked in a bar" You Thai apologists should think, read, slow down, and grow some skin before you try to defend.
So if a girl works in a bar then that means that she is available sexually to pleasure you for payment of money? Is THIS what you mean? I have been in plenty of bars and restaurants in Thailand where the young ladies working in said bar will only serve food or drink and nothing more. In said restaurants and bars any inquiries as to whether sexual services would be provided would result in either a slap in the face or being asked to leave. Hence, when a Thai girl says she works in a bar, the word that comes to my mind is "waitress" while apparently the word that comes to your mind is "whore".
While I take into consideration your suggestion that I grow some skin before trying to defend, I have an alternate proposal that anyone such as yourself who believes that all girls working in the service industries of Thailand are yours for the sexual picking should get on the next plane from whence you came because I don't think you need to be in the country.

Thailand's hot and humid weather takes its toll on electronic equipment, so yeah...if you buy the cheap stuff it will break. I have a phillips norelco, and they last years before they break. Get one that's waterproof, and that should be able to cope with the weather. If you buy the cheap stuff, it will break.

RIP. However, I don't get why anyone would think it is a good time to head back to the old home country for a visit right now. There was the French national executed last week. Another group of people have just been kidnapped by Abu Sayef in the Philippines.

Most modern bikes have the kill switch to prevent riding with the stand down. And when I say modern bike, I mean my 1989 FZR 400 has this little feature, and CBR1000RR also has it. Engine will kill if in any forward gear with kick stand down.. (I do note that my Yamaha TZM150, mid 1990's vintage does not.)

It was airing in USA at the same time on BBC channel. It was a very good documentary. I was a little put off about the protest against returning british soldiers. Seriously, don't know how anyone British could put up with that. Americans won't

Well, I was looking for it on TVF news, but breaking news in America is that a woman has been beheaded in Oklahama.

The thing is, while he is a youth now, they grow up into scammy adults. I never did anything close to this when I was 12 years old. The guys whith the jet skis or the boiler room operations...this is how they start.

The goal would help out with what is the best to do. I mean if one wants to come to Thailand and bum around for a year or so it's different than someone who wants to stay around for 5 years or so or someone who wants to stay permanently. If you just want to stick around for a year or so, there are legal ways to do it that aren't really that expensive. But without knowing how long you want to stay, and what your life plans are I really don't know what to tell you.

To the OP, subject has already been handled on TVF.
