  1. I have a 1 year 6 month old son, and another on the way. Both born/ will be born in Bangkok. We have been told that being born here means that no visa is required until the age of ten. Unfortunatly this sounds very much like heresay to me. Although we have been out of the country with our son a few times, we are having to spend increasingly lengthier times explaining the situation at the airport. Could someone please clarify the situation. We have asked at immigration but they were at a loss, and sent us for\m one desk to another until we were told after over two hours that 'is ok..'

    Thanks in advance.

Should have mentioned earlier both my wife and myself are foreigners.

  2. My son has had diarrhea for three days, we took him to see a doctor at reputedly the best childrens hospital in Bangkok. We were told that he probably has cholera!! Do you anyone personllay who has had cholera in Bangkok? Just trying to confirm that this is possible here, as we can't see how he could have got this. obviously we are very worried. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. He has rehydration drinks from the hospital.

  3. Just a little rant really. I was at a shopping mall at the weekend and waiting for the elevator. Waiting with me was a woman in a wheelchair, and a family with a baby in a push chair. When the elevator arrived it was packed with able bodied thais. Obviously or maybe this is just me...I expected a few people to get off and use the escalators which wouldn't have required much effort, but which were quite unusable for the lady in the chair and best avoided by the family with push chair. But no!!!! The occupants all just stared at them and waited for the door to close.

Land of smiles and courtesy, manners etc etc ??????!!!!!! how about unbridled laziness!!!!!

    Unimpressed!!!

BTW I've since seen this a number of times now.

  4. Can't rememeber the last time I read such an infuriating post. The MAN!!!!!! is 19, he is not a boy! He needs to sort himself out! Go back and apply for the appropriate visas etc. The mother has not just 'basically lost her son' what a stupid thing to say! he's not dead!!! he is not waiting to be executed for something he hasn't done!! as is happening in scores of countries right now. YOu need to get some sense of perspective!!!

And then the 'the foreigners are all stealing our jobs, we is bein robbed by the imigrunts....' 'oh the poor yoofs, they don't ave any 'ope at all'. Idiots!!!! Most of the people in the u.k. on benefits/unemployed don't want jobs, and wouldn't want to do the shit that the immmigrants do. In fact most benefit recievers get so much that they would loose money by taking these jobs. Now whose fault is that????

And before the same people that stoned a peadiatrician out of his house, 'Because it sounded like Peadophile', start complaining. I am sure there are some people who would take these jobs, but if you look around and take your eyes off your t.v. for more than five minutes you'll see the real state of what's going on.

So much nonsense in this post!

  5. Neither my wife nor I are Thai. We were both working here on non im b woking visas. I have just had mine extended but my wife has recently stopped working to look after our son. She is now on a tourist visa. Obviously we need to get some sort of visa for her but what? I have been told that we have to get a non o, can we do this in Thailand or does my wife have to leave and apply from outside? What documents will be needed? cheers.

  6. Results have come from home. Was a little concerned after my dad had a heart attack, so I got myself a reliable brand blood pressure monitor. So far have only been further worried. At the hospital my readings are normally 140/80 but they keep telling me that's normal. At home the readings have always been 140-150/70-90. I don't feel bad, my chest is tight sometimes if I really push myself but in general no problems. Also worried about an article i read about enlarged hearts!!!! At the risk of sounding like a hypocondriac do you think is a problem?

  7. wanting to start muay thai, haven't done any serious training in quite some time, but no time like the present. Would obviously like some where that understands a little bit of english as I don't just want the shit kicked out of me as I try to explain I want to start training not fighting (not just yet at any rate). Would also like to go somewhere where it's not seen as a chance to give a foreigner a kicking. Sorry about the negative image but have heard a few stories. So if anyone knows anywhere in the Ramkamheang area that does muay thai let me know. cheers!!!

  8. i took some friends to an indian restaurant in Pattaya. Had been before and loved it, told everyone it was fantastic. Anyway the service was really crap the waitress had a huge attitude, the food was cold and wrong when it arrived all in no order and to top ot off a huge rat ran up the wall in plan view for every one to see. Needless to say i've stopped recommending places to eat!

  9. Thanks for all the replies, let me clarify. I am a kiwi and my wife is a filipina. We are married and have just had a son, he is 1 month. Until last week we both worked at the same school. I should be ok so long as my school sorts my visa out which they have said they are doing. The problem is that my wife was on a non im B while working, but is going to be taking some time off to look after our son, which changes her visa. We have been told that we simply need to apply for a non 'o' however this being Thailand i can't believe it's that simple!!

  10. Am 32 don't smoke, don't drink, eat fresh food, no coffee, no sugary drinks, no fatty meat, lots of veg and my bp is still 140-150 / 70. Seems sometimes it doesn't matter what you do!! Oh and I get plenty of excercise. Even tried fasting, heard that just drinking water for a week can clear your system up and get your blood pressure down. It didn't! Am worried as history of heart trouble in the family and dad just had a heart attack, despite the fact that he too lives a reletively healthy lifestyle, very similar to mine!

  11. have been given blood for years in the U.K. came here and was very publicly (?) while I was lying down ready for the bag and needle told that psoriasis excludes you from giving blood. Tried to explain this was ridiculous but they insisted that it's contagious and would be passed on. Never heard such nonsense!!!!

  12. Sure this is obvious but finding it hard to figure out as all the info is about marrying a thai national. I am not married to a thai national and would like to know what we need. I have been assured that all we have to do is get an 'o' visa which is but a formailty and should be realatively easy. Is it? I have a non B myself so any advice? Tried looking on the websites but found it hard going. would appreciate any help, thanks

  13. I have been working in a school which has had a very high number of teachers children. There have been a variety of experiences, good and bad. Now I'm sure that everyone will say it shouldn't matter, but in my experience it has. For some children it made life easier for others harder. I have seen the effect on the children of their parent being sacked, I have seen these kids leading their class in behaviour and academics, so it seems that this is a very two sided issue. Just wondering what experiences the teaching parents, the children and the teachers of teachers children have had.

For me it has been very mixed and I would not let my children come to my present school. What about you?

  14. have been a few times but no one ever seems to be there. have phoned but no-one answers. it's like the mary celeste! Never seen any food or drink though!

Seriously it looks o.k! and i'd love to have a climb. Does anyone know who to contact? Have thought about just climbing until someone comes to tel me off! might still try it see what happens.

  15. Am looking into schools for my daughter, have some experience of international schools Just want to know how things work, how do visa renewals go if you work there? are you really incorporating the british curriculum, if so how? how are children graded, SAT's GCSE's etc are they real or just cpoied from long ago. Are the children really getting a british education? do the facilities/opportunities available justify the cost?

lots fo questions, have heard lots of stories, just want clarification. There never seems to be much on these forums about international education just TEFL.

  16. My wife and i work for an international school. I have a son who is two weeks old. My wife will not be working for a while and we had assumed that getting a type 'o' visa would be ok!! but what about the baby.

it also appears that having told us that my wifes work permit etc wouldn't be cancelled, the school cancelled the w/p two weeks ago.

i have asked and been told that because my wife isn't going to another job, she is still o.k. until the end of her visa which is august 31st.

it's all a bit confusing, I am still waiting for my visa to be sorted out.

will we have to pay the overstay?
