1. I am in Australia, and I am due to fly out tomorrow, 1 night in Bangkok and 9 nights in Pattaya, havent cancelled yet, but am considering it. Any thoughts??

Pattaya should be safe enough, shouldnt it?

Don't cancel - Pattaya is still the same, grab a taxi from the now quiet airport and head south

    :)

  2. I have lived in Lalana for 3yrs now, I bought 2 condo's and knocked them into 1 (using a friends family to renovate) I have had no issues and find it a nice place to live. I accept there are nicer places in Pty, all depends on what you want and prepared to spend.

Noisey neighbours can be found in any community environment, therefore essential that you find the right condo for you.

Try renting for a few months, there are places available, you can make a judgement call then

Can I add, that I have the BPL football and all the other major sports events (True) and ToT provide my internet which is a very acceptable speed even when I am streaming.

  4. Friendship, on Pattaya Tai, has been asking 40 Baht/hour during the recent holidays. :) Car park packed out mostly, too.

A little bit up the road from Friendship (Towards 3rd road intersection) There is a car park which is I think 20 baht. I think its Tonys car park. I think Friendship also charge on Tuesdays and Fridays because of the Soi Bua Khao market. But you won't be charged if you have a stamp on your ticket (And are probably within some time limit) ..Can't really blame them for doing this though as everyone going to the market would park there if they didn't enforce some charges.

If you purchase anything from Friendship even a papaer they wiull stamp your ticket and no charge is incurred, although if you stay over 2+hrs then 10bht is the going rate.

As an alternative and no charge - when the Buakhao market is not there (Sat/Sun/Mon/Wed/Thur) then park by the family mart and walk around the corner to Pattaya Tai Rd

  5. I have just completed my 5yr renewal, I had the usual 30 day tourist visa (what the give you at the airport).

    1. Med Cert (in date)

    2. Residence permit

    3. Copy of passport and visa (you must sign on the copy)

Note that if you want a motorcycle licence - make a second copy of all the above, basically 1 per licence

    - Arrive at the Office at 0745hrs, get in line and fill out the form the desk at the front of the office will check all yr documents and allocate you a number.

    - Proceed upstairs and wait for yr number to come up, go to desk 1 and hand over the documents and 1650bht I think it was for 2 licences.

    - Wait for the staff to call you fwd and have yr pic taken

    - Collect yr new 5yr licence

It took me around 1hr 30mins to complete everything and I arrived at 0900hrs

It helps if you dress sober, no cut off shorts and or no money no honey T shirts and smile - even if the line is long

    Hope this helps :)

Thanks for that LenB. I have to renew mine in a month. Is the residence permit the certificate you get at Jomtien immigration? And if you want to renew both a car and motorbike license do you need to get 2 residence permits?

Yes it is, when you go to Section 9, ensure you tell the lady that you require both car & bike and she will produce 2 certificates, you need 2 x med certs also. In other area's it may differ but this is the surest way in Pattaya to get this task completed. :D

My 5 year Thai driver licence is up for renewal. Now I stay here on a tourist visa.

Some report that they get renewal on a TR, other say you need a NON Imm visa.

What is the latest renewal requirement from Pattaya Land Transportation office ?

TR visa ok, or must have NON Imm visa ?

    Medical certificate?

    Residence Permit from Immigration ?

    Affidavit from your embassy ?

    Other?

Mod's: please keep this post in Pattaya section

  7. I live in Sa Kaeo and was wondering if anyone else lives here too.

I'm in Prachinburi, next province over. My impression is that there aren't many farang hereabouts....

There are not many. I discovered one more in my village last week. He is from Holland. That makes 2. But he is leaving in October and there will only be 1 farang in my village again.

I think in Sa Kaeo, there are about 30 to 40 farangs but I'm not sure. The only farangs who live here are those who want peace and quiet, fresh air, cheap food, and very nice people.

Agree...all the more reason to try to find them so we can have a forum for the forgotten east-central area (Nakorn Nayok-Prachinburi-Sakeo).

Definetely no other farangs in my village or any village in the tambon, and if there are any in the ampur they're well hidden because the ampur doesn't know about them.

It would be nice to be able to share info on locally available goods & services, floods etc...so let's keep hunting. Calling anyone in Nakor Nayok, Prachin or Sa Keow....

    :o

    Hi All,

Count me in - I have bought land 16km from Phanom Sarakham (twds Prachinburi) intend to build a house and set up a small farm (fruit/veg/rice/trees), my mother in law has a sister in Sa Keow, we visit often.

    Kind Rgds

    Len

  8. I am arriving mid March on a flight from Phnom Penh that gets in at 6.45 pm and wanted to get to Jomtien straight from the airport.

Unfortunately I'll have missed the last Bell Bus service and don't fancy getting myself to Ekami to get the bus or standing in a taxi que to pay 1,400 + baht.

I've found 3 companies that provide airport pickup for the trip to Jomtien that are within my price range.

The following prices include 'highway' etc.

    1. 'Pattaya 4 Leisure' taxi service charges 1,200 baht
    2. Mr T asks 1,000 baht
    3. Mr. Toom also asks 1,200 baht

Based on experience or reliable reports you have heard - who would you pick?

PS. Last time I took the train and while it was interesting and relaxing enough it's probably a once only type of trip for the novelty value.

Email Eve on [email protected] I have used her service for 3yrs, great drivers and good clean cars, driver will wait for you by arrivals section 3, with a name board, price is 1200b incl tolls. You can get cheaper - as they say 'up to you'

  9. [q/uote]

    Ever heard of condoms breaking?

    -Ever heard of cars?

    -Ever heard of cars crashing?

Ever heard of accidents? Even your wife can transmit that virus to you when the condom breaks. Accident.

This topic's moving quite fast ! And where the heck is the video for goodness' sake?!?

Uh,i don't know who you married, but my wife?NO CHANCE.Not all expats are here for the sleaze... :oYou would be amazed how many decent farangs live here. :D

    I second that !!!

    Me too

    Count me in too!

  10.
Hello,

I'm fairly new around here. I have a ailment some might call "large head" syndrome. This is a physical ailment, not bred of ego.

I need help!

I'm looking for a shop in Pattaya that sells helmets for farangs like me. Maybe I should change my name to Big Head instead of Saam Baht.

Anyway, despite my flippancy, this is a serious request for those in the know.

Thank you ahead of time.

hoping for some replies on this as i struggle to find a helmet to fit also....replies please

I wish you luck - I searched most places in Pattaya and only found small/medium helmet sizes to my fustration!! I was visiting a friend in Phuket (Patong) and guess what - managed to find a suitable helmet, long way top go but what the heck...

  11. My friend & I by pure luck found a good taxi who we now use all the time fm Pattaya - Bangkok. Clean, well maintained car, not a smoker or drinker, constantly proactive when it comes to basic checks (tyres, clean windscreen, seatbelts work etc), sticks to 100kph or below. OK it takes longer to get there but you arrive safe and it's not a white knuckle ride - like some taxi's.

We all like to be masters of our own destiny - choose the cheapest taxi and that equation is null & void
