Great photos, Ian! I am heading there in November or December for a break and looking very much forward to it.
Thanks for sharing!

Sounds like she is teasing you! Go slow and see how you guys feel in person.
I have met a lot of locals and have a lot of local friends and not everyone is out to get you.
There are good and bad people everywhere and in my experience, I met other fellow expats with far more disturbing behaviours/habits than I did with the locals.

I seen modified cars like that on a daily basis when I was in Bkk, I think depends on which parts you go. I suggest to buy a local magazines about modified cars and flip thru the advertisements too!

I read an article of this guy who got so fed up with his 928 engine that he swapped the engine for a Toyota V-8 instead. Still a 928 but with easier to maintain engine. Nice!

I got a few loose ends to handle now but next year. I am coming back to Bkk for good. I am lucky to have a bunch of really good and true friends in around Thailand. I also know a few British and Americans who are opting to stay for good. I just love the lifestyle there, the food, culture, people and did I mentioned food? LOL!
My only complain is the mosquitoes at night! That is something I still cannot get used to. This is why I smoke lesser whenever I am there because I don't like the thoughts of walking outside the house for a cigarette at night time and walk back in with mosquito bites.

Fake cars are those that are trying to pass as original issue.
Replica cars = kit cars.
I mean, kitcars are not new. Why those people in brussel making such a big fuss over this 'fake' Ferrari. It has a Subaru engine for christ sake! If you are going to buy a Ferrari, are you not going to pop the hood to see the engine? I don't think that Ferrari body is even made in Thailand. If it is, bravo, I hope to see more of these producers popping up in Thailand. I rather have a replica Countach than a bloody Honda. Ok, I kinda like that new Honda Civic (?), but that is another story!
Australia, UK and US kit cars are very well known and some of these producers are so good that their replicas look like the real deal and perhaps, even better because they improved the chassis with today's technology rather than 70's tech. This is for those using a cage chassis and not a donor car.
But a crap load of replicas looks like crap, as like the 328 in the photo one of you attached.
In my knowledge of kit cars, any original cars that stopped production for 15 years. Replicas of those can be made without breaking the law. This is why newer exotic cars copies, in this case, fakes, are illegal and usually faces the factory's pack of lawyers. But in some cases, these original cars 15 to 20 years old are rather affordable. Maintaining them is another issue.
I think this news is just to make Thailand looks bad. Thailand is not even a haven for kit cars, I wish it was, dammit! If anyone knows anyone can import kit cars into Thailand or builds them, PM me please. In fact, if anyone of you know any groups of kit car enthusiast. PM me too!
KOB KHUN KRAB!

Grant: Total taxes and duties = 1+2+3+5 = 2,131,707.20 Baht or 213.2%
Holly rocking horse shit! That is so unfair and so wrong! In fact some may say it's criminal.
Tax for car imports in Singapore used to be 200% but they have somewhat reduced over the years but good thing here is that we don't have to pay ridiculous road taxes and road pricing systems.
Anyhoo, I gave up the idea of importing a car.

Sooooo, what's the update?
Anyone since import kit cars into Bkk who care to share?
I have seen a Ferrari Dino shell painted in red parked next to a paint ball shooting club or whatever those are called. Those belonging to anyone here?
Thanks!

From what I have seen of Bangkok, my travelling along the southern coastline, (Hua Hin and 200 Km beyond) trips up to Khon Kean, Kalasin and over to the north-east border, give me Thailand any time in comparison to NY and beyond. America is too commercalised, the extremes between those with wealth and the areas which the have-nots inhabit, are more marked than in Thailand. Whilst crime pervades both enviroments, the levels of it are far greater in the US.
Some people I am sure, take their holidays and retire in Thailand because it is a lot cheaper than elsewhere, but then moan and groan that it isn't as sophisticated, they can't buy the range of things they can 'back home'. However, if they were 'back home', they would then moan even more, that living there is far too expensive and riddled with high levels of crime. Life is about making compromises and not expecting that you are entitled to access all the facilities that a 1st world country delivers, in one that hasn't the same levels of economic power and development. Both have their failings, it just depends which you are willing to put up with, and not moan about!
Well said!
For me, I do love Bangkok for what it is.
Its a country I want to stay in for the rest of my life. The only thing I am bitching is that I can't get a dam_n Lamborghini replica into this country! Otherwise, its all good!

Saw a 50's and 70's Corvette in Bankapi area. Both looks pretty worn and tired.
And yes, I saw that red Enzo too! I heard there is another, in black!

I was enjoying my stay for nearly 2 years. But I had to leave the Kingdom 2 years ago for work here in Singapore. I miss Bkk, my friends there, both expats or locals. The only thing I do not miss are the mosquitoes. I am not enjoying myself here and wish to return to Bkk, for good!
