  1. Hi altf4,

that is the huge problem for us customer we have to buy the very expensive devices with this new technology and have to sign a contract for one year and when we are at home we have to recognise the network runs with an obsolete one. Exactly for this reason we have the duty to find out before, if the devices and the network are working propperly and sufficiently together otherwise we have to work with a more than disappointed transmission rate.

    Thank you.

  2. Hi HDRIDER,

very encouraging reading your information but, who is the manufcturer of the CCU-650 because have to find out if it's the latest one or already obsolete. The transmission rate you can work with is more then sufficient but in which area are you situated? I am in the Angthong area and was in a cat shop already but, what do you think the kind of information I got it was disappointed and destructive for me and with this working style one can run a whole company agaist the wall. Everywhere the same it doesn't matter in which shop you are the employees are very terrible trained and not interesed at all.

    Thanks in advance

  3. Hi monty,

thanks for your information. Do you exactly know when they will upgrade the net in EDVO in our area? Otherwise it doesn't make sens to me to buy the sierra 580 for 12,900.-- and in addition 999.-- THB for each single month unlimited internet access for only 153.6 kbi/s that's altogether 25,727.-- THB.Then I would rather choose one of their mobile phone promotion with modem under the current transmission rate condition. When the network is ready to use in EDVO then I will buy one of the newest AirCards or USB-Modem. Yesterday was in sierrawireless's internet sites and I found out that the production was discontinued since Dec. 06.

Nevertheless your information was helpful. I still waiting for the information how the Mobile Network under the CDMA 1x transmissin rate of 153.6 kbi/s is working with the data card Huawei EC 321, Huawei USB-Modem or one of their Mobile Phones including Modem.

    Thanks in advance

  4. Hallo Internet Mobile-Network User,

has got anyone experinece withe the Hutchison network in the up-country area Ayutthaya, Angthong, Pamok?

Hutch has got a CDMA 1x Mobile-Network and they offer a data transfer speed of 153,6 kbi/s with their following

devices AirCard Sierra 580, Data Card Huawei EC 321, Huawei USB-Modem and even some of their Mobile Phones

with a build-in modem can transmit in the same speed.

I would be very happy if some users can give their experiences in using one of this devices.

And more importantly I would like to buy such device here in the forum. Please send me your offer

    Many thanks in advance.

  5. Hi, Solo Siam,

    Hi, Dominique355,

your diesel consumption sounds very unhealthy. A Mitsubishi sales person told me the consumption would be between 5 till 6 litre for 100 km.

Could it be you are driving like Alonso on Thailands freeways? Or are you driving like a Thai farmer with a fully loaded pick-up of pineapples?

It is also very well kown that a 4 WD car uses a lot of diesel more in comparison to a 2 WD one.

I would be very happy if someone could give me the consumption for a 2,5 litre and 2 WD car. If possible for an unloaded car and would tell me where the driving took place , on a freeway or in town.

But, nevertheless thank you very much for both of you!

  6. Hi, ProThaiExpat,

thanks for your efforts in sending me information. TVI (ThaiVisaInsurance) offer two options one is for younger people which can join the insurance till the age of 60 and this one comes from Thai Healt (I think I am right).

The option for the elderly people is the MAXI plan and one can get insured till the end of life. As far as I know this particular plan comes from LMG and one can get a huge discount through exclusions.

Here their exclusion plan: 20% Outpatient Exclusion, 25% if one pays the first 40,000 Baht for hospital treatment, 20% treatment exclusion for North America, Japan, Hang Kong, EU Country including Switzerland, 20% if one is able to build a group of at least of 21 people and they would join LMG together.

Was asking them for a quote and in my case I made exclusions for Outpatient 20%, treatment exclusion for the first 40,000 Baht 25%, treatment area exclusion for NA, JP, HK and EU 20%. The premium on a yearly basis is 42,480.-- Baht, the monthly payment would be 3,540.--.

This a very huge difference what they have told you from TVI. How can one do business on this huge price differences?

It is very highly encouraging to from a group of at least 21 elderly and younger EXPATS for joining LMG direcly.

Hallo EXPATS shall we try to form a group? If yes, please send me a message and we will try in organising everything.

We Expats should be able to get a good health insurance for people which are over 60 and we can get insured till the end of life for a very reasonable price!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Sorry, ThaivisaInsurance,

maybe you would like to encourage the elderly people for applying to your very much age restricted healt insurance but it seems to me

your company dosen't want such oldies. The reason why I am telling you this is: I am 62, expat and was asking for a quote just a view days later when your insurance was launched......and I am still waiting and waiting for an answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Dear Readers,

would like to buy a SUZUKI SPORTY new or an excellent second-hand car. Who has such car and can give very reliable information about the fuel consumption?

And if anybody know which company has got the best offer on the market in Bangkok. Or which privat person has got the intention to sell such one in the area from Bangkok till Angthong.

    Many thanks in advace!!!!!!!!

  9. AMEX is far nicer than the local banks when it comes to issuing credit cards...so far, they seem to be the only institution here who actually WANT to give a farang a credit card, as opposed to the local banks, for whom we're just an unecessary extra headache.

If you look online at the requirements for Bank of Ayudhya's credit cards, they state that farangs have to have a MINIMUM of 3 years employment here before being granted a card - my father had employment in the same institution for not 3, but 6 years, with salaries coming every month into the account and a hefty amount of savings, yet was rejected with the same inane reason that was given to the OP of this topic. The h.ell with them, I say...banks like Ayudhya or Krung Thai are not for non-Thais, we're better of sticking to the likes of Kasikorn, at least they have the decency of correctly communicating with their customers.

Hi Florin thanks for your answer. I am sure the best would be in joining a more sophisticated farang bank. But who is actually AMEX? And it could be they are not here in our area (Angthong). The first time when I came to Thailand I opened up an account with Bangkok Bank and they acted on me like unlettered people and each time I converted foreign currency they gave me one of the worst exchange rate.

    Greetings

    Gerd

  10. United overseas Bank,

They bought out Bank of Asia

If you can get to the Future park Rangsit brank.

Take your wife, a copy of your pension income, passport, and ask for a lady named oil, or Jum.

They will walk you through the process. They can speak english.

You will need to put up money into a term account as guarntee, and get 80% of it as a limit. put in 100,000=80,000 limit.

You will get paid term deposit rates on your money. you can end card anytime but must wait for two months to get money back for term.

Let me know if you need more help

Thanks for your quick answer. Will come back in case I need more help.

    Gerd

  11. Thank you very much for everybody who replied on my posting.

My explanation for some of you is: I am a pensioner, married with a Thai wife and do have a non immigrant O visa. My account was opened up from 01.03.07 and I don't have any negative track record. As I wrote in my posting it can't be my monthly income and the money in my account. And I haven't done any fraud with credit cards. I really would be happy if you could come very close to the real reason. If all of you have got a real credit card (not a Visa debit card) it must be possilble to get one as well. Who is actually UOB Bank?

    Thanks for your reply.

  12. This, written by a Thai in today's Internet edition of The Nation:

Thailand Dropping Out Of Global Community

So sad these days to read the press and forums around Thailand and the world, also very sad to hear retirees, tourists and foreign business people opinions and experiences becoming more and more negative about the Kingdom of Thailand. As a Thai, I hope that these world views do not represent the majority of Thai people. In the final analysis, I hope that these views are pursued by special interest Thais that only care about themselves and not representative of the Thai people.

Since the 1997 crisis, I have become so proud that Thailand has decided to participate in the Global economy with all of its pain and gains to move up the learning curve and become a part of the global community. Thailand has gained and benefited from increase wealth...........

Warnings to Thailand by World Institutions to develop its domestic financial instruments, Implement foreign exchange hedging by exporters. Develop value added exports, reform education and reform Immigration. Policies, open domestic markets improve human rights to Thais and non Thais. Increase technology investments not censorship and political oppression. Many professionals in Thailand work very hard every day to achieve these goals for a better Thailand.

But, special interests have different answers for Thailand's future. A recent simple example is the decrease in hotel occupancy rates. Of course the hotel operators blame the baht and fewer tourists when in fact the number of tourist arrivals has increased and the number of new hotels built has increased. Government is not responsible for bad investor decisions. Instead of blaming someone else like children investors should do their homework before whining to the Government.

    ..........

Special interest will tell you that foreigners may not own business or foreign retirees may not own their own homes that they have bought and paid for after a lifetime of hard work and saving. Foreign Retirees live on a fixed income and live in fear of being kicked out of their homes or fear immigration's disrespectful sour face in issuing their yearly visa depends on the immigration officer's mood and ever increasing difficult immigration laws. Foreign Retiree's economic contribution to Thai society offering security, supporting entire Thai families and raising children are ignored and their efforts are unwelcome by an ungrateful society. Half foreign Thai children are loved and adored as moving stars or singers but growing up they are tortured physically and mentally by other Thai children. Children are not naturally mean they are taught that way by racist parents. Turn this story of foreigner's experiences in Thailand around and imagine yourself in a foreign country. Do you want your Thai children going abroad to study and being abused by raciest because they are different? Or do you want to retire abroad and then kicked out of your house at 65 years old because you are Thai? Do you want to go abroad and then be kicked out by new immigration laws? Do you want to go shopping abroad and be cheated by being charged more because you are Thai? Or would it be ok if while you are being cheated it is done with a sarcastic smile and you are perceived as rich. There is nothing more irritating than being smiled at while being cheated. Most foreign tourist save a life time to visit Thailand and contrary to popular opinion can not afford to be cheated. Incomes are relevant yes their salaries are higher but so are their cost of living savings rates are the same as a 4.000 Baht per month Thai worker. Foreigners are not stupid people just as Thais do not like to be called poor stupid farmers more and more of these stories are going around the world. I meet people around the world that knows and have friends in many small and large cities around Thailand not just Bangkok. Thailand is not just known by Bangkok in the world community anymore. Remember what you do to others will come back to you. Soon Thais visiting and living in other countries will be treated the same way as foreigners are in Thailand.

Special interests will use the argument that Thailand is a small, pitiful, poor, uneducated, ignorant undeveloped country that can not compete and needs more time to develope. Slogans created such as "Thailand is for Thais" breeding racism by populist politicians. Special interest will tell you we are protecting Thai culture. Thailand has thousands of years of culture it will not disappear by joining the world community. Thailand is classified as an emerging country with the size and population of a European country. By following populist propaganda Thailand will not have to worry about exports exports will be zero will not have to worry about tourism tourist will go elsewhere that pretty much takes care of foreign exchange policy and foreign reserves there will be no need to participate in the world at all. The world has no time to wait for Thailand. The world will move on to Thailand's neighbors Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, China, and Indonesia where conditions are better and where governments are anxious to join the world community and eventually to Burma ( Myanmar) and Cambodia.

Is this the Thailand we want? Do we just want to go on sabai sabai watching the world go by on TV because the world is too tough for our sabai sabai sanook sanook attitude? .......

Thank you very much writer about your openness and attitute towards people who are thinking they do already live in an open global Thai community. This article should really open the eyes of the people who are thinking they do live in a Thai paradise. Thailand is far away from something like that. Not even geographically is Thailnad a paradise. Maybe the best thing of the Thai Goverment would be to call all the Thai people back home who live and work legal and illegally around the globe before other nation will do this step.

  13. Dear Readers,

today received a short letter of KTC Krungthai Card Public Company Ltd. which told me I do not get a VISA Credit Card.

They did not give me any explanation for their rejection. This was reason enough to call their service department. But I shouldn't

have done that because it was a massive frustration again the only explanation was; "it is not allowed for them to tell me the reason for their rejection".

I was thinking about myself: Have I ever been a wrongdoer regarding my Baht-Account? No, I never have done somthing like that, I never ever was in the red zone of my account. My brain kept me very busy to find the right reason. Don't I have enough income or maybe enough mony in my account. No, that can't be the reason because my monthly income is approximetly 55 k and in my account is far above 500 K. Maybe that's it: I am a Farang that is the reason!

Does anyone know which Thai Bank is willing issuing Credit Cards to farangs?

I am waiting for your help and comments.

Many thanks for everybody who is able to help me.

  14. There is a yawning discrepancy between the financial requirements for a farang husband-Thai wife, and farang-farang couple retirees. What can be the basis for such inconsistency? It almost seems this is a campaign to encourage more farangs to partner with Thais and to bump their foreign spouses :o

The new policy will probably prompt emigration of retirees to Malaysia...and will certainly impact negatively on local Thai business.

    Hi fruittbatt,

is so sad reading such negative rules against foreigners. At the moment I am not affected this time, but what will come next. I am absolutely sure they will hurt next the foreigners which are not affected now, because they are trying to reduce the big demand for the Thai Bhat. Many Thai people have lost their work through the strong Bhat and if the currency doesn't change the direction many more will get unemployed as well. I have got only one chance to look for an other country where I can stay as a pensioner. Does anyone know the visa ruels for MALYSIA ?

  15. The promotion ticket price is 299 + 500 THB (airport tax)!!!! But the Airport tax for DMK and BKK for domestic flights is only 100 THB.

Does anyone know about this chage?

Which Airline has got a better and more tranparent price policy?

My departurer could be any day from 10.09 till 05.10.2007.

I prefer to fly from DMK Airport.

    Thank you for your participation.

  16. Dear supportrer need some good ideas for my stay in this region for a double room in a guesthouse, bed & breakfast home, hotel, privat home or any conveniently situated accomodation. The price range should start from 4,000.-- till 12,000.-- BHT per month if possible with A/C, TV and Internet.

Thank you very much for your participation.

  17. I used the i275 Solomon GPRS/WLAN and it worked when the tower first went in our area then as more and more people got service it started hanging up every two minutes. They only use the extra bandwidht and cell connection get pri and push GPRS connection offline. The day edge started my service whent to 5 kps and never recovered. I don't know why your ToT sat didn't work mine has been a dream. Even when GPRS worked before it is upcountry and was speed trapped at 33K you could tell, connect with P2P already online and it started out 64k within one minute the trap catchs it a watch it slow down to 33k everytime a big rip off I don't trust they will be any better about edge after they get enough connected.

    Hi RKASA,

thanks for your reply. The TOT sattelite dish has gone already because was tired about all TOT caused problems like unable and unfriendly TOT staff, no one speaks a word of english, poor service and so forth. After three month of massive problems I phoned them to dismantle everything.
