  1. Expastaff1308 is absolutely right. 65k per month proof of income to British Embassy, they will provide a letter at approx 2500 baht....That's it for income.

    1. In Pattaya you can take your income evidence to other Consulates and they will supply the letter which is fully acceptable.
    2. I hold an Irish passport & my partner holds a British passport she provided her's and I provided my proof of income to the Italian Consul in Soi 12, Treppesit Rd,. He (a lawyer) provided the letter next day at a cost of 500baht. Nice man, very helpful.
    3. Immigration happy.
    4. No trip to Bangkok required.
    5. It is advisable to complete a week in advance to allow for holidays or unforeseen mishaps.

  2. What on earth are these people trying to do to their own country.Have some common sense and call it of before you destroy it.

Reminds me of the Thatcher era in the UK, the poll tax riots, the miners strike ? or earlier under Heath, the 3 day week during which, the dead went unburied, the refuse uncollected, TV restricted, post undelivered, no power to offices 4 days a week, docks blocked....etc etc...not only Thailand

  3. I'd guess numbers are probably near enough - and the timing may be to do with the situation in Bkk....however I think it also shows that Thailand is suffering from Walmart syndrome............so long as the money keeps coming in, they will continue to cut costs and corners when it comes to tourism. catering for the lowest common denominator.

The facilities available, health and safety are all kept to a bare minimum - often below acceptable standards. ......... and the impact on Thailand's natural resources is appalling.

I guess when places like Samui are reduced to a concrete platform in the middle of the sea there will still be people willing to go there if the price is right.....

    Awesome! Way to go Thailand!

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

Actually Thailand would be better served by attracting quality tourists rather than cheap package tourists particularly from Russia. Mind you good business for 600 baht a nice hotels/guest houses, food carts and Chang Brewery. I expect that even though tourist numbers are up earnings will be down

  4. The missing line above is.

Police will check CCTV in the area as they attempt to identify the assailants and arrest them as soon as possible before they are able to strike again.

But I think it is too late......... getting dangerous out there. Couldn't have been far from the entrance to the Mercure Hotel.

4AM and drunk is not a good deal any place. Gold and cash are too big a challenge for the ganster to ignore.

  5. Welcome to Pratumnak.

Nearest to you, Continental Bakery & Foodmart for bread, some meats (Australian wagyu beef, eye fillet 1100baht) lots of wines. from Pramumnak right at Thappraya road lights and Foodmart is on the left before next lights...Continental Bakery is across the lights ...just.

    Then:

Either Big C extra on Pattaya Klang or Central Festival for meats, wines & breads...Central for cheese.

It's worth going to Makro on Sukhumvit for general shopping and some meats & veg also fresh & frozen fish.

On Pratumnak, visit Tara Court for Breakfast...and meals generally..reasonably priced, clean comfortable and freindly staff. They do '"one plate" meals also, all 150 baht, Cottage pie, bangers & mash, beef stew etc

Very recently opened in Cozy Beach is Centara Grand...afternoon teas of scones with clotted cream & jam, pastries & sandwiches.

    350baht....very nice place.

Good litte Italian is the Trattoria next to Foodmart, Giorgio is the owner....

Great choice of eateries and bars locally, you'll be spoiled (probably soiled too) for choice.

    All the Best.

  6. Hi,

    Collingbourne Auctions Pattaya.....

It would not cost much to get a truck load delivered from BKK, they may even do a pickup.

I sold a house contents via them a while ago, got a reasonable price....very close to estimate.

They have a website. Auctions every Saturday which includes cars and motorcycles as well as all the usual household goods.

    Good Luck

  7. My regular wine, Cedar Creek Cabernet Shiraz, went up over the past month from between 860 and 890 to between 1200 and 1225...all outlets....nice increase....... enough to drive you to drink !!!.

Should have added this is a 5 litre box......

  8. This is not a new tax rise on alcohol, but the Senates approval of the proposal that was announced - without notice - on September 4.

Numerous topics about this on the various sub forums here, suffice to say supply has halted somewhat because, IMO, the wording used in the application of the tax equation is ambiguous (to say the least) and the department responsible for the collection and creation of taxes do themselves no favors by saying one thing and doing another.

Taxation Accountants and taxation lawyers/attorneys/solicitors/barristers will be making a fortune out of this in a few months as they to come to terms with the ambiguity of this new equation and exploit the short comings of it.

    Indeed.

My intel is that this is all about getting back at ThaiBev, who are getting a bit uppity and not paying due homage to dear leader. The tax rise was to show ThaiBev, and Khun Charoen, who is boss.

The slipshod application of the new calculation tells me that this new law is an adhoc order upon high, and the MOF (usually some of the best civil servants going around) are left trying to figure out how to calculate a policy which takes time to work through and develop.

Foodmart Jomtien have increased the price of alcohol "due to increased taxes"

A 4.5 ltr box of Cedar Creek wine selling last week for 960bht is now priced at 1200bht.

Is this really due to tax increase or is it Foodmart increasing their margin.?

  9. You must be Russian... other nationalities seem to dislike of them. In 6 years in Thailand I've never met anyone who has admitted to a liking of them !!.

Its also funny to see that beside all mafia are working in secret ...many here think to know in what business they are involved ... All mafia are involve in prostitution, drugs etc ... Can be Russian, Italian, Chinese, Thai I dont think the Russian mafia is more active than another in Pattaya or Phuket. But I noticed many Thai visa guys dont like russian at all .... well I like Russian very much ....

  10. Keep track of foreigners on limited, specific purpose visas,

Actually it has nothing to do with that as those on such visas do not report there address as they do not stay more than 90 days at a time and any exit resets the clock. It is a requirement of the immigration act of more than 30 years ago so not something new.

Agree..but to help the hard pressed officials, I would suggest a minor rule change. All long stay visa holders who are owner occupiers to report annually.

  11. How about all the Farangs that holiday in Condo blocks and villas?

Many condo owners in Jomtien, Pratumnak, Naklua & Pattaya, for instance, rent their condo's...Many purchase multiple condo's for this purpose.

Some are held in Foreign name others under Company name.

    Most visitors go unreported..

  12. Christmas Day a party of us had a buffet lunch at **a restaurant in** Jomtien.

The food was horrible, there were long queues for the carvery (20 mins) even thought there were not that many people eating.

The starters consisted of prawn cocktails (two prawns & a bit of shredded lettuce) and various thai bits all dry and looked like they had come from a street vendor. The turkey was dry, beef over done and stringy ham. The gravy was unbelievable bad. Christmas pudding was literally a teaspoon of dried pudding ...looked like bird pooh. All for the sum of 999 baht. It did include one drink. We were given a half a glass of sparkling wine each. Some tables had table clothes, many not.

I can honestly say that it was the worst food I have had in 5 years of living here.

I talked to the waiting staff who said that the place had gone downhill over the past couple of years but is now getting rapidly worse.

This place is below third rate. Management is non existent...

  13. why are you so worried about bars being closed? You have no home? why can't you just have a quiet

drink at home if you need it ? :o

Who needs a quiet night?. I have suitably stocked up...but the more options available the better. besides the wife does NOT do poll dancing justice. In fact she uses the condo's supporting column. Results in a 6.5 richter scale shudder throughout the building.

  14. I guess everyones experience varies. I've sold 3 properties in Thailand, none of which were ever listed for sale. I had another inquiry last week for a piece I had, and i told the prospective buyer that it was not for sale as I will be building my own home there. I have several other pieces, but none of them are for sale. None are residences, which I think are probably a little overbuilt in some areas.

One thing I've noticed is, people seem to appreciate great natural beauty, and pieces possessing that are probably never in a slack market.

    Same for me too.

I have property and could sell tomorrow for quite a substantial profit.

One of my tenants offered to buy my condo just last week!

It's all relative. all I see in Bangkok is property prices increasing year by year.

    Crisis? what crisis? :o

So the Ostrich can use the forum now......get your head out of the sand

  15. My (ex-wife's!) hotel at Phuket is full tonight, as it was last night. The current room-rate of 2,500 baht per night doesn't seem to put anyone off. As for peak season around Xmas, we are already fully booked on many of those days.

I do believe that tourist numbers are down, and maybe we are lucky with our 'niche' market by the airport. In Patong, it's a buyers' market as many hotels are competing and cutting their prices.

BTW, if you think our room-rate is high, it is the cheapest in this locality! Other hotels nearby are charging 3,600 baht per night up to 12,000 baht per night - and still getting customers.

    Simon

    Simon...I'm confused.

I've been reading over some of your past post. You write about needing a job. Trying to get Teaching English jobs, another recent post you are talking about going back to the UK to work for a while and save up some money and come back!!

But then you also write about "My hotel" and "allways full".

Is it your hotel or not?

Did you buy the hotel in your ex wifes name?

Do you have a partnership arrangement?

    Do you recieve income?

Or have you been Rodgered like so many other Farangs that come to Thailand?

    Have you done your money?

    Whats the story dude?

    Well spotted livinginexile,

Simon is obviously full of the old Bull, if he has any involvement in the hospitality industry, it's probably a fleapit trying to charge 250bht a night. Full when the room he's not in is taken by another dreamer.

He also seems to stagger around with his eyes closed..........full hotels? Balls!!! :o
