  1. Have non imm O retirement, multiple entry status. Will go to USA in April, first time out of Thailand in 4 years. What steps do I need to take in advance, will be in USA for a week only. Do need to do TM8 to reenter, do I get forms with the Airlines, or do I need to make a trip to Hua Hin immigration for anything special. Thanks in advance. Also have to renew in June (1 year) will the exit and re-entry extend or will it still be a must do in June?

    Thanks

    Watch that dress!

University says no more pajamas in lecture rooms, bans short skirts, tight blouses

Thammasat University students at the Rangsit campus who regularly wear pajamas to lecture rooms will soon find their liberty limited after a new dress code becomes effective.

The dress code will also restrict all types of casual wear worn by male or female students that are deemed inappropriate, although they have been allowed in lecture rooms at the Rangsit campus.

All students at Sanam Luang campus are required to wear uniforms during lectures on weekdays and casual clothes in certain classes during the weekend.

Casual dress is allowed under a long leniency period for students at Rangsit campus, where dormitories are provided for them, but the restrictions were needed because, according to deputy rector Parinya Thewanaruemitkul, the freedom of dress code "had long been overexploited".

Tight blouses and short skirts were unconditionally banned in both campuses, he said. Other clothes to be forbidden include revealing or too tight or sleeveless blouses or T-shirts. Shorts or skirts too high above knee level will be banned, while males must not wear shorts above the knee, pajamas, sleeveless shirts to lecture rooms or entering the premises.

Netwinon Thnaprarn-sing, a Faculty of Science and Technology senior, said that in her sophomore year, she usually dressed casually instead of wearing a uniform. "Sometimes, I've seen students wearing tank-tops and shorts. But I agree with this new rule. It's suitable."

Sirinart Srisutphikul, a senior law student, said probably 70 per cent of students dress in casual styles. "Lecturers don't require us to dress in uniform. But it's about what is respectful." He said the dress code has always been like this. "If we don't dress politely, we are not allowed in libraries or have administrative contact with the university..."

    Florida Boxer Rebellion Slows

After fast start, baggy pants crackdown nets only five suspects

OCTOBER 30--While the crackdown on baggy pants offenders in Riviera Beach, Florida has significantly slowed in recent weeks, police there have just nabbed their first repeat offenders, records show. After busting a dozen men during the first two weeks they enforced a controversial new ordinance targeting droopy drawers, cops nabbed only five offenders in the following seven-week period ending October 20, according to police reports. The five arrestees are seen below in Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office mug shots. Included among that quintet were prior boxer short exposers Kenneth Smith and Ronald Deloach, who are pictured left to right in the second row of booking photos. Another arrestee, Kelvin Collington, seemed puzzled when police stopped him earlier this month for allegedly exposing "approximately five-six inches of his multi-colored boxer style undergarment." As recalled by Officer J. Campbell, Collington remarked, "What the fuc_k are you stopping me for, I ain't did shit." Collington is seen below in the upper left mug shot. First-time violators of ordinance 12-3043 face a fine of up to $150. Recidivists like Smith and Deloach could get a maximum of 30 days in jail.

  3. In reply to the poster who referenced the "over-priced" English Premier League, I might point out to him that Thaksin is no longer the owner of any football clubs in England. So, the lack of extradition has nothing to do with that.

I understand people being annoyed with PAD, but I still think we should celebrate the fact that the traditionally non-confrontational and passive Thai people are taking a stand against a political system that allows blatant vote-buying. They're standing up for what they perceive to be right! Whether their opinion is right or wrong is of course, a matter for debate.

If you can't get your kids to school for a day or two, so what? The future of the entire democracy is at stake!

I still think we should celebrate the fact that the traditionally non-confrontational and passive Thai people are taking a stand against a political system that allows blatant vote-buying.

90% of the PAD protesters are also bought. And PAD does not advocate Democracy for all only for the self righteous...get a clue!

  4. I am amazed at how many bloggers here if even peripherally, support/sympathize with PAD. Corruption is ingrained in Thai culture. It will take generations to eradicate. PAD claims democracy. Hah. Not even close. The closest thing to PAD politics is Communism. Let's get real guys. They waqnt to roll it back to 1973 with no clear plan, candidate or process. AS long as the press is not free and everyone can be bought, even the most primal form of democracy here is impossible. I love Thailand. been here for 18 years, have an extensive family here, and have seen the bouncing ball go every which way. I am saddened that the world is laughing at Thailand now. And the beat goes on...

  5. Newbies have as much right to articulate in this forum as you do warriors. No PPP affiliation, just a view different from yours. The notion that with an older join date at Thai Visa somehow begets you the only realistic POV is amazingly ignorant...I don't take sides particularly... but even at the surface, what PAD is doing and their method is not going to benefit anybody... step back and get some perspective

  6. PAD is involved in Vendetta Politics, sour grapes, and is very dangerous for the people of Thailand. If you look at the heads of the movement, they all have had some fallout with the former Prime Minister, many of which were his cronies until some unknown incident we'll never know about, many of them are hired out to the highest bidder, and have changed affiliations many times over the years. Can they not see that what they are doing by seizing, buildings, government offices and threatening further escalation is anarchy? The exact opposite of what they proclaim is their platform? Roll it back to '73? .

Something in the water allright, these people have lost touch completely. They have offered no alternative, to Samak, nor will any of what they do inhibit corruption in any way shape or form. They are just as guilty as the people they accuse.

Granted this is Thailand so you can't compare apples and oranges, but this kind of a campaign of terror wouldn't have lasted 12 hours elsewhere. There is a difference between peaceful protest and occupation by force.

They've gotta let the Thaksin thing go. It doesn't fly anymore. They should focus on working through the system to make change, but mob rule isn't the way to do it. Not anywhere.

  8. Doing My 1st retirement visa renewal in Hua Hin. . About the 800k letter. I have two bank accounts one with the 800k (stand alone) which I set up for visa purposes, and a regular one from which I draw from. Heard recently that you have to use an active account (one with transactions) rather than a passive one dedicated for visa purposes only.

Any body can square me away on this before I go In? Thanks in advance. You guys are great!
