  1. Hi all,

We’ll be moving from Chiang Mai to Dubai in August and are looking into ways to ship some stuff. The quotes we have received are astronomical (mostly port fees here and then again in Dubai). Do any of you know a cheaper way to ship a few boxes? A friend mentioned that some exporters

are happy to rent out a little space in their containers, anybody shipping to the UAE before August?

Thanks in advance for your help

  2. Hi all,

Just bought some dried salted fish in Trang,

to bring back to people in Chiang Mai. The old man called it 'plaa sii siad': 50-60 cm long, silver... Well, your typical fish! Looks a bit like mackerel, but mackerel is 'insii' and the guy didn't have any. It is sold split into 2 along the belly and open. Could somebody tell me its name in English?

    Cheers!

  3. Can we in turn write a letter to Starbucks asking them to stop serving overpriced garbage?

Absolutely, I'll write it! Don't forget the kind of corporate giant Starbucks is. They won't make me cry with their bucks lost... And if you guys can't find a seat, why not trying somewhere else and buy local? What about acting and stop moaning?! There are about a gazillion little coffee shops offering awesome local coffee for a third of the price, free wifi (at least in Chiangmai) and even sometimes a/c, or a lovely green garden.

Let's show these corporations that we can do without them, think global, act local.

  4. Thank you guys.

Honestly, I am not sure that there is a big price difference betwen going to the Apple store for a repair or and buying a new device.

i am sure it will be outrageous or they will tell me to wait for the IPhone 5!

Maybe I'll go back to an old battered nokia that is not designed to fail after 2 years...

If anybody else knows addresses, I am stil willing to save my "old" 3GS daddy though...

    Thanks again!

  5. Hi all,

I'm experiencing bizarre things with my iPhone 3GS. I had to change a chip(IC chip, I think I recall?) the other day and now the phone gets very hot and the battery dies within a couple hours. On top of that I've lost my gps functions. I had it fixed in airport plaza and I'm not sure I wanna go there again..

Do you guys know somebody that really knows how to fix iPhones ?

    Thanks in advance.

  6. Wow! I can definitely tell the difference between a battery chicken and an animal that has been fed in a more traditional manner: taste of course, but also firmness and color of the flesh, taste and size of giblets, and especially the adoring look in its eyes just before you cut its throat...

Joking apart, my main point, on top of of any healthy concern is to boycott major corporations like CP, and this for a lot of reasons, but my point is not to give a lecture. I will cut short by saying that I am veryconcerned about consumer's freedom of choice.

So thanks a lot for the very interesting scientific insight (although it's true there is not one truth and that only your own experiments will tell you if a diet high in fats will do you any good or not...) but I think I need to rephrase my question...

Where can I buy free range chicken that isn't as tough as old boots?

    Cheers,

    mic

  7. Hi all,

Sick of being fed insipid, hormones injected and corporate produced CP chickens, we have been looking for free range chicken for quite a while now, but our cluck cluck quest has proven unsuccesful.

Of course there is the traditional Thai Gai Baan but unless it spent a couple of days hanging in the cellar its toughness makes it improper to sunday roasts.

And it applies to eggs as well: They don't taste eggy! Tried all brands, industrial or organic (80 baht for 6...), market, supermarket and their stupid-posh rubbish. Nothing.

Does anybody have knowledge of an alternative to this cock-a-doodle-doom or shall we simply ban chicken from our diet? I am sure somebody raises a couple grain fed animals in his back garden and sells them for an outrageous price, which I am ready to pay for...

    Please help!

    An arrogant French ... Rooster!

  8. Hi all,

I need to provide a CPR training in my school in Chiang Mai but I need to purchase a CPR manikin first (Resus Annie type).

I have found Laerdal in Bkk, but they charge 20,000 Baht up for a half body manikin. That said, I have seen plenty of Chinese manufacturers on the web that are less than half the price, but can't find a shop in Thailanad that imports them..

Anybody knows a provider in BKK or else?

Thank you very much for your help!

  9. But do you need to leave uTorrent on all the time? Bandwidth is a big problem in Thailand. If you need it fine, but if you don't please consider turning it off!

By that I meant,I download many movies, serie or documentaries that take time, so it's on nearly all the time...

So how comes my laptop is just fine? I don't get that... If the PC has issues, no reason the laptop doesn't...

    Thanks.

  10. Hi all,

    Me and my Zyxel again...

    - 3Mb Maxnet premier

    - PC hooked to adsl through a Zyxel P-660HW-T1 V2 (with wifi)

    - A laptop hooked to the wifi network

    Here is the deal(s):

When I use Utorrent (which means nearly all the time), Firefox pages won't load and it takes a couple refreshes to load the page properly. Then it does, at quite slow speed. But with the laptop that's connected to the wifi network (not using torrents) it's all fine, pages load super fast.

All this didn't happen with the Huaweii modem from Maxnet...

Does it mean the PC bandwith is too small? If that's the case, is there a way to "give" the PC more juice?

    Another little request:

I have trouble forwarding ports. I succeeded yesterday, using Simple Port Forwarding(SPF), but my port is closed again today. I set a static IP (in SPF), which is apparently required, but does it really work? I thought only your ISP could do it. I costs an additional leg to get it from maxnet...

    Any help is appreciated,

    mic

  11. OK, SOLVED!!!!

Thanks guys, I was a muppet.... I thought I reset already, but actually, you need the "plug-turn on-THEN reset" to actually do it. I was just pressing the thing for 10 secs, and of course it didn't work.

Got the screen, got the settings, ports forwarded, topic closed.

    Thanks again.

  12. This happens when you input a wrong password. I have a Zixel too.

If you don't know your password you can reset the router, if you know how to set it again. Username and provider password and other settings.

Sorry, I kinda skipped your post... Thanks! I've rebooted already, but maybe I keep entering a wrong password? I'll try again..

    Cheers

  13. It seems the whole menu tree is missing. Can you click on the name of the Router in blue on the screen given?

If not then it seems the router has been modified to prevent you from doing so.

On mine I go to NAT, then SUA only then I can open the ports.

Here we go, i can't click on anything except that packet statistics link (Bottom right) that brings a pop up window with an error message. The menu... has no menu.

I tried to reset the thing as well. Nothing works.

Well, I must pay my bill, so I'll try to ask the guys at Maxnet.

    I'll keep tou posted...

    cheers

  14. Hey, thanks again for the tips.

That said, my problem occurs much prior to setting a static IP... If only i was there...

The thing is I do not have the option of that Advanced or wizard screen that is shown on the True page. This is the one I get:

    post-51558-1258295391_thumb.png

As I said, this is not the modem I got in the Maxnet package, I bought it recently; so maybe they don't give permission to another modem to access advanced settings?

Sorry, this is frustrating and I don't want to bother everybody with it...

    Cheers,

    mic

  15. Hi all,

I recently bought a Zyxel P-660HW t1 v2 to replace the Huaweii 880 that TTT provided me 2 years ago with my premier subscription. I just wanted to setup a wireless home network, which works fine now.

    Problem 1

I can't forward my ports (for Utorrent): When I login the 192.168.1.1 page, there is no options under the "status" tab, so I can't change any of the modem settings. Screenshots on websites show several tabs with the usual network, security, advanced, etc... tabs.

Even simple port forwarding which I had success with in the past won't work neither.

    Problem 2

Firefox shows "timeout" messages for nearly each page I open while Utorrent is running. It needs several refresh to load the page that then loads very fast... I know any torrent app is supposed to slow down internet connection, but this did not happen with that Huaweii 880 before! And the laptop on the wireless network loads pages just fine!!

Am I completely forgetting something? Is there any secret to unlock the modem, should I just not bother and change for another model?

    Any help is appreciated
