Sorry, just now saw this thread.

Your wife can get this treated free of charge through the government health system, no need to pay out of pocket. Not at Sripat as that is a private service but at Maharaj Nakorn Hospital which has the same doctors. It used to be necessary to get a referral from the government hospital one is registered at (based on residence) but supposedly this is no longer necessary in patients with cancer.Any questions on that pointy should be directed to the NHSO  https://eng.nhso.go.th/view/1/Contact_NHSO/EN-US

Treatment depends on the stage of the cancer.  From the tumor size, she may indeed be looking at a combination of surgery, chemo and possibly radiation.

Survival rate is excellent (>90%) if the cancer has not yet spread beyong the cervix and uterus. They may nto be able to know this until after surgery (they will remove and biopsy pelvic lymph nodes).

As to your questions about decision making, surely your wife is  competent to make her own decisions?

    thanks for the reply sheryl.

we had biopsy results yesterday. malignant sadly.

they did a CT scan which we are going back today for the results for.

I have little knowledge of the thai government health system.

would she have a better chance if we rush back to the UK to get treatment. either NHS or we also have some UK private insurance coverage upto £50,000.  its unlikely we can afford under the thai private system as yesterday's CT alone was 20k baht so suspect we're looking at 1mill + to go private here. the Dr said waiting times are sadly long at the moment here in Thailand due to pressure on the system from covid

  2. 5am unable to get to sleep myself now. lol.  she's fast asleep.  lol.

I cannot stop worrying about it.

in true English style I'm playing out every outcome in my head and the more I think the more I'm dreading this...

even started wondering what happens in Thailand if a foreign husband does not agree with her Thai parents about what the best thing to do is.

in the UK husband is next of kin. in Thailand is that the case?

  3. wishing I hadn't started reading about this now.  from what I can see it's a bit more than a standard hysterectomy that could be needed as the tumour is further down. ???? making it at least stage 2.

    4am.  can't sleep.

I've read more about this and think I'm getting  more worried than she is !!!

  4. morning all.

my Thai wife is here in chiang mai visiting family for 3 months and I've just flown over also for a couple of weeks.

having not seen each other for a while we did what couple do and to be blunt it was a bloodbath.   prompted a visit to sriphat medical center as we were in a hotel in chiang mai Town for a couple of nights.  she's from wang phrao which is about 80km further up in the middle of nowhere.

result showed a 5cm cervical tumour. awaiting biopsy report over the next couple of days.

now... I of course (and she also) wants this sorted and hoping very much its not malignant.

is sriphat any good ? are there better alternatives ?  all my googling says most likely looking at a hysterectomy but I'm a man so this is one thing I know nothing about.

we could also instead fly back to the UK however very concerned about waiting times.

so the question is.  if this is what's needed Where's the best place to go and terrible to say but I'm not made of money so price if a great deal is a concern,

  5. morning all.

arriving in chiang mai on 18th March 9am and need a rental car until 4th April.

any recommendations please that do NOT need a credit card, debit card is OK, but not credit.  my thai wife and me (UK, with international driving permit) to drive.

  6. good morning guys.

my Thai wife and I married in the UK about 2 years ago.

her thai passport & ID both still have her maiden name on.

she is currently back in Thailand visiting family in chiang mai and she wants to change her Thai paperwork to the married name also.

she has English banks and driving licence in married surname however all her Thai paperwork and visa paperwork use maiden name.

she went to the local government office with her UK marriage certificate and UK driving licence in hand and tried to change her surname but was sent away being told she needed British embassy and MFA paperwork, translations and things certified.  and also had to register the marriage in Thailand then also change names on the tabien bahn at whatever property she is listed on, but no longer lives at to Thailand before anything can be done.

is it really that hard to do ?

would it be easier to be done in UK London Thai embassy on her return

  7. Hi Guys

    hoping someone can help .

My eldest son flew over to Thailand last week to marry his Thai girlfriend. unfortunately due to work i can't be there.

he lived in in Thailand for 5 years and came back to UK to look for work before trying to get her a visa to move with him.

the problem he faces now is getting the affirmation to marry.

when i married my Thai wife years ago i just turned up at the pattaya consul with a print out and they endorsed it for next day collection.

he has tried to get it done but is told he can only do it now at the UK embassy in BKK and 1st appointment is 21st December !

he is meant to fly back to UK next week for work and he could end up losing his job if he has to extend for another 2 weeks .

is there anywhere in Thailand he can get this done or is there a paid vip route to get it quicker

    thanks in advance hopefully

  8. Hi All.

living in UK with Thai wife.

she is on the resident visa path and is currently on her 1st 2.5yr option with work permission etc.

we have 1 child (ours) who lives with us , UK passport holder aged 7.

MY wife has a 12 year old son (thai) who lives with the grandparents in Thailand.

we'd like him to come and visit the UK next year for his holidays for 6 weeks or however long the holidays are around the songran break.

my question is what do we need to do. am i missing anything and is there a good chance of the application being approved do you think as theres going to be quite a cost jsut getting the ball rolling.

For his visa application does his mother need to fly back to Thailand from the UK to Thailand to assist with the application and be at the appointment at VFS. i will assume she probably will unless told otherwise .. therefore she will have to book time off work here in the UK and go ..

the plan seems to be as we cannot think of any other way to do it . dates are hypothetical

we prepare visa application online and gather documents.

27th march (Saturday) wife fly's back to Thailand weekend before VFS appointment .. and we will try and get a Monday appointment at VFS to maximize time for processing.

    29th March (Monday) VFS appointment

<my wife will now need to wait in Thailand for application as she needs to fly back with her son as we don't want not think it practical for him to fly alone at 12 years old>

is 2 weeks enough ? long is a problem with work ? does she need to be there to apply ?

12th April .. wife and her son fly to UK.

12th June .. I fly to Thailand with her son to escort him back

all sounds nice and easy ..

we have 3 return tickets that need to be booked .. wife to collect him.. him to get here and back . and myself to take him back.

    documents i assume we need

wifes passport and her UK biometric card

our 7 year olds UK and Thai passports to support that her thai son is coming to see his brother also

    proof of residence

her bank statements and mine also

proof of employment for her .. I'm self employed so are accounts needed ?

his air ticker with dates ? do we have to buy before they approve visa .. as ideal ticket will be day after they approve visa which would mean we can;t get it till they approve it .and if we buy one for 2 weeks after application will it be enough time ?

letter of invitation from me ?

letter from wide saying what ?

letter from thai school confirming student status and dates of school holidays ?

anything i'm not thinking of ?

  9. Hi all

My thai wife & I live in the UK. We're back in Thailand at the moment on holiday and there's a job in the UK my wife has applied for working as a carer. They need to do a criminal record check (ECRB) on her but of course background in UK is only short so getting a Thai one and a translation will help.

She's from SaKaeo area. We're on holiday in hua hin.

Where does she go to get this paperwork and is there a Thai name for it.

Thanks in advance for any help

  10. Morning all.

Time has flown by and we forgot to check what date it was.

Noticed on Friday night our 1 month VOA was up on 31st may. And immigration closed for the long weekend so today is the 2nd June and we're on overstay. We fly put back to the UK on the morning of the 7th June.

Trying to decide on the best course to take.

Main question as immigration was closed do we get fined for 2 days if we go and get and extension today ? If they don't fine for closed days I think better to go and join the ques and extend. Otherwise 1900bt for extension and 1000bt overstay is 2900bt. And we lose at least half a day of the last few days of the holiday. So I'm thinking it might be better to just pay 7 days overstay on departure.

  11. As a personal choice Id much prefer the jomtiem area, but we have younger kids (8 +6), dont much go down that way nowadays but we had an overnight about 3 weeks back when we travelled down to pick up our new car, spent the night at the jomtiem palm beach, pool was ok, rooms were clean and it was relatively quiet specially so since it was leading up to songkran, we also brought my mother in law and had adjoining rooms, but if you hadnt been meeting friends id have suggested you skip patts and head for hua hin or cha am, both pattaya and hua hin have recently opened water parks to enjoy

Just to add I think the jomtiem palm beach was 1800 each room booked via agoda

we've been trying to book at this place (jomtien palm beach hotel and resort) as it looks quite nice.

cannot get them to tell me if they do a monthly rate .. and had 2 prices off 2 different staff .. one for 2800 per night .. another for 2400 . probably different rooms though.

they have a palm wing .. and jomtien wing .. i was asking if one is better or newer or nearer the pool and its like trying to milk a goat getting information lol

  12. Hi All..

    i'm a ex expat lol ..

lived in los for 7 years then moved back to the UK 2 years ago.

we're coming back for a 1 month holiday. got to meet back up with old freinds while there and have some fun :D

we've got 2 children 10 & 7, my wife and my mother so having 2 rooms. and wherever we stay must have a really good pool and be very kid friendly . so not a knocking shop.

budget is around 2000bt per night per room.

my favourite at the moment is 'green park resort' off naklua rd as there pool looks fantastic , at least on there website it does lol ..

any other suggestions at that sort of price range anyone can suggest please.

  13. another crackdown

    will this blow over ?

will it be like the enforcement of no smoking in bars. or 2am closing times.

they must realize that much of the $$ coming into Thailand is from men spending there life savings once they get hooked

and its all very well saying get a marriage visa.. but they have to meet 'mrs right' 1st !

    i can just see it.

50 year old divorcee visits Thailand as his m8's tell him he can be a sexy man again before he dies.

he arrives spends lots of time partying and living it up ..

then meets the girl of his dreams .. only to be told. now if you want to stay with your girlfriend your going to have to get married quick otherwise your relationship is not recognized.. sensible guys wait before getting married to see if they are are going to be a husband or a portable atm machine . not any more as these rules encourage quick marriages ..

  14. wonder if its mine !

i was renting bikes out for a short while (about 4 years ago) and a renter's girlfriend did a runner with it.

he paid for as he did not want a theft report .. was not able to change the registration book though as he was not resident. just tossed it in a cupboard.

it was a blue one just like this.

i've been back in the UK as well for the last 14 months so even if they followed it to my old address i'd not be there..

guess it will end up in the police auction

  15. thanks for the reply

    but...

while we have a copy of my wifes thai passport .. the copy does not have her visa in . so we cannot show her immigration status. thats why the home office have it, waiting for them to put the visa in.

we do have letters from the immigration tribunal but i think they would just confuse the issue.

so that left me thinking it would be easier to centre the visit on him coming to visit his nephew (my son) who has both thai and uk passports.
