  1. The card (12900 last I heard) is not the bottleneck.. Its the network system.

If you have any links that list 1Mbit speeds on CAT CDMA I would love to see them.

    NEW:

    http://www.catcdma.com/product/c-motech.html :D

Strange that page still lists 500 - 700k which is the speeds the older hardware was giving..

    yeah....very strange :o

but everybody must know that nobody get what he pay for it :D

    nowhere, same same in thailand.

If u have a ADSL contract with TOT or TT&T with a speed of 1024Kbit download.....

then be shure, you have to share this line/speed with many other customers.

No company in thailand tells you the share-ratio from your ADSL contract.

If people would like to pay a lot money per month (3000-6000bt)

then you will get a good speed at every time (mostly) because it's dependently

from the day- or nighttime and what website you want to visit (.de/.com/.co.th)

I believe it's the same story with CDMA/GPRS/EDGE or whatever.....

so in that case, i think if CAT says, 500-700Kbit download with CDMA

then they are very fair.......maybe sometime u will get a speed up to 1Mbit,

maybe in the nigthtime when the network is not overloaded....try it out :D

The hardware it's already prepared for more speed (up to 2,4Mbit)

but if the network do not support this....haha..we have to take what we get.

compared to the mobilephone network from AIS, sometime u will not get

a connection to another mobile in thailand with the same network....

both (900&1800Mhz) because the networkcells are fully or overloaded

with to many customers at the same time......no solution for that.

    We have to accept this...

PS: the ITC company here on samui says the have a WiFi speed up to 6Mbit! Wow :D

...maybe, i never get this speed because you must share with everybody

and the international bandwidth is anyway only about 50% from the local speed,

    sometimes better, sometimes more badly.

  2. for more infos u can try to call the CAT-Shop in Samui at 077 - 421130,

the mainoffice is in the same building as the postoffice in nathon,

    or the CAT-Shop in Suratthani at 077 - 283050 - 9.

Another TIP, khun Tanawat Thipchit from the Samui IT Center in Chaweng

he speaks english/thai and he also sell hardware for CDMA, he told me about

that the new network on samui will go up to 1Mbit speed....ask him for more.

    (his phones: 077 24 5981, 077 42 7178 or 01676 1442)

he has a shop about 200m on the right side before tesco-lotus in chaweng

i can recommend also another shop in samui:

go to the ITC Lamai, on the left side there is a small but very friendly PC-shop

    name "Rawadee Computer" rawadee.com

the lady there will do everything for you will be happy...about hardware :D

    (she's already married with a falang :o )

    good luck

  3. Hi

    Its getting better:

    kilobit/sec (kilobyte/sec)

    Download speed: 1,289.61 (161.20) 100%

    Upload speed: 71.64 (8.95) 48%

    Surfspeed outside Thailand: 46.97 (5.87) 100%

    Latency: 965 milliseconds

    that's sounds very good... :o

but surfspeed outside LOS is very low, why?

CAT has the biggest bandspread to the international networks.

can i get this modem only true CAT-Telecom?

  4. my friend wants to know how she can get internet access on phangan with no land phone line. she has a laptop and a mobile. i don't really know much about this as i use my ADSL.

    Another idea....

do you check the area there if some WiFi networks available?

GPRS will work (but slowly) maybe EDGE is also working there....

but to connect with a notebook u must have a good mobile with

an inside modem of a GPRS Class 10 or higher.

For example: the Nokia 6233 has an GPRS Modem Class 10

and HSCSD/EDGE funktions an also important the number

    of up/download channels. This Nokia has 2 upload & 4 download-channels.

The Nokia N73 has a Class 11 modem inside, but same up&downloads as the 6233.

Maximum speed 118,4Kbit or 236,8KBit/s. (up to network)

    Nokia 3120 has an GPRS Class 4 modem with 1 upload & 3 download-channels.

    source: http://www.handyformation.de/handy/handydetails-216.html

...better GPRS/EDGE then nothing...if there are no internet-shops nearly you stay.

    sorry, no links :D

i have this informations from a shop in chaweng/samui,

the guy there want to show me this speed (1Mbit) but

i told him that time, i will use the WiFi Network from ITC Samui,

because i get a good signal from there and i no have to invest money

    in new hardware.

i postet at the samui forum this last week:

Yeah, i think so....but for be shure and have actual infos read this:

  6. Anyone know if they're going to introduce an upgrad of the CATCDMA modems? Just read on the Samui forum they're going to get a whole 1Mbit, as opposed to the miserly 230kbs I have here. No 'phone line, no choice.

did you tried out with a newer mobilephone and EDGE from AIS (1-2Call) ?

In some areas (provinces) they offer a speed up to 230kbits with EDGE.

I tried before in samui with nokia 6233 and the right usb-cable to the notebook, it works well :o

Do you have an USB-WiFi adapter or an PCMCIA-WiFi card?

Check your environment about some networks, i'll be shure there are a lot of it.

    here some good products:

    http://au.wifi-link.com/product.php?action...product_id=1126

    or

    http://au.wifi-link.com/product.php?action...product_id=1127

this products you can use everywhere in this world (and be shure, everywhere you will found some "open" networks for share)

The guy in the shop on samui told me before (about 3month ago), that the new

CDMA highspeed (1Mbit) PCMCIA-card will be cost about 14'000baht.......

    some infos from there website

    source: http://www.htil.com/eng/business/thailand_strategy.htm

"Hutchison CAT made its mark by creating a new segment in Thailand’s telecom industry. As the leading provider of value added services over its CDMA2000-1X network, Hutchison CAT is able to deliver a real time multimedia experience, as well as competitive voice service.

Teenagers and young professionals who love trendy and innovative technology are a critical target market. Unlike other Thai telecom operators, our customers can download multimedia services, such as video clips and music directly to their mobile phones. We lead the way with the most creative marketing campaigns aimed at brand awareness, highly competitive tariff plans and the truly distinctive services we offer.

In April 2007, CAT Telecom and Hutchison CAT announced the commencement of nationwide CDMA roaming service between CAT Telecom’s CDMA network in 51 upcountry provinces and the CDMA network in the 25 provinces where mobile services are marketed by Hutchison CAT. The CDMA nationwide roaming service allows customers of the CDMA mobile service to enjoy seamless CDMA voice and SMS service anywhere in Thailand. Both CAT Telecom and Hutchison CAT also plan to extend the roaming service arrangement to other CDMA services such as data and EV-DO in due course."

....if you want to have more speed with the CDMA you have to buy new hardware (PCMCIA-card or USB).

There is no upgrade possible for the older hardware.

    Good luck

  7. How can be this......i think thailand has a law,

that says, it is not allowed for a non thai citizen

    to fly an airplane inbound???

    Incorrect.

That is the most rediculous thing I ever read (until I read the rest of your post!).

Do you really think that EVERY airline in the world has to employ a Thai pilot so they can land/transit in Thailand?

Think about what you are going say before you open your mouth (or add forum posts).

Yes, that was a daft thing for the poster to say RJJ, but I bit my tongue.

I think he's mixed up with a law I fell foul of when trying to import my helicopter into Phuket. No non-Thai may act as P1 on a commercial Thai (HS) registered aircraft. Helicopters are worse: no non-Thai may even be issued a rotary licence. I could not covert mine. I was told I would have to employ Thai pilots, and could not fly even non-revenue or positioning flights myself. I gave up.

So, if this rule applies to Thai airlines, as I'm sure it does, this airline should have Thai nationals as captains, so I can't see how he could legally have been an Indonesian. Not that it really matters since all are presumably trained to the same standard.

The only possible get-out if no local pilots are available, which would only happen with rare a/c types.

    Dear RJJ from Australia,

please be careful what do you write here... :o

i try to be friendly, not indecently same you.

I do not mean, that every airline in this world ho have flights to thailand

must have a thai-citizen pilot, do you understand this?

I read before something that airlines from (registered in TH) thailand who

have just flights inside this country must have a thai-pilot, only this....no more!

Because the government or the army are scary, that pilots from other countrys

could see some secret areas/buildings from the army or navy of thailand, do you understand this?

I just talk about that, maybe somebody know something more.

But please correct me, if i am wrong....maybe thats only for thai-airways?

thanks for an intelligent answer or reaction.....

and a little bit more friendly, maybe?

  10. Thailand Speed-Limits: :D

Speed limit for cars is 60 kph. in town, 100 kph. on highways and 120 kph. on motorways except when overtaking.

Who want to talk about security on roads in LOS........

specially on samui-island......the speedlimit are 45 kph, around the hole island,

but....who cares? 90% of traffic has a speed between 60-120 kph, true or not?

Everybody knows, that samui-island is the most dangerous place in thailand.....who cares? :o

I can just say that the traffic in thailand has rules, but who care about these rules?

Most of the people are "Life-tiredly" or in thailanguage "büa tschiwiit" or in german "Lebensmüde".

...but back to "Herbert the sprinter"

the roads/highways from Donsak to souththailand are in much more better conditions then the roads on samui.

Nothing to compare. I personally know many thousand's of kilometers roads in LOS, most of them are good.

In this case, no problem to drive 120-140 kph.

About the traffic-law, if the police will stop Herbert's minivan about his highspeed in the night......

what's happend....that's him problem to pay the police, the ticket is not mine.

...3 people (farang&thai) on a motorbike with no helmets and 60 kph.....is that safe?

please do not make this accident-story bigger as they really is :D

    Dschok dee khrap

PS: if somebody stay in thailand now and he is scary about the safety on the roads here,

then better go back to europe (pratheed falang) and enjoy the security there.

Especially falangs who talk the whole time that in europe everything is better than in LOS.... :D

(why these people stay here, i d'ont know, sorry)

  11. Hello 2 everybody in this forum :D

i am very surprised about what and how the people here talking about this "VisaRunAccident".

    First of all some facts:

    1. his name is Herbert and not Herman.

    2. he is an austrian falang, not german.

    3. this accident was on a VisarunTrip to Malaysia, not on a 1day Borderrun.

    4. there is no alcohol allowed on board during travel, if somebody have problems with that...take another company for visaruns.

    5. if some customer can´t wait 3-4h until the next stop (go toilette)...take another company for visaruns.

    6. if you feel stressed on these trips with Herbert....take another company for visaruns.

    7. if somebody not like or understand the humor of Herbert and his style....take another company for visaruns.

    8. if somebody know a company they have drivers who can stop a minivan from 120km/h to 0 km/h in 3seconds, pls. tell me.... :o

    - why is a lower speed with the minivan more comfortably?

    - how much more secure is a visatrip if they drive just with 100km/h (instead of 140km/h)

    - how many people died in the last 10years on visatrips in LOS?

    - and how many people die every month in samui in the normal daily traffic?

    - how safety is the ferry from the mainland to samui-island?

Herbert isn't a friend of me, i am just a customer of him for a long time now.

But i can recommend him for shure. Sorry, i not get money/commission from him 4 write this statement here :D

I have to pay the fullprice on every trip with him, same everybody.

Not forget to tell, on every trip in his minivan....i slept well everytime, also with 140km/h.

If i don't trust the drivers experience or feel unsecure, shure i will not sleep in the minivan.

Or is somebody there who feel scary with thai-airways (airbus) with a travelspeed of 900km/h? :D

Will the journey be more safety if they fly only with 650km/h? I d'ont think so.

And what's about TGV in france, or every other highspeed train in the world,

every year they go more faster, but is it also more safety? nobody think about that.

Anyway, Herbert will never stop his business about this story.

If somebody know another mode of transportation who is 100% safe and secure, pls. let me know.

    And last but not least:

There are two categories of customers (from Herbert)

the one who LOVE him (and travel again with him)

or the other ones who HATE him....(and never come back)

    Dschok dee khrap

and good luck to Herbert the Austrian-busy-man :D

PS: maybe the company Julie´s VisaRuns get more customers now...because this very big story now about the accident.

Mai pen rai, we say in LOS

NOBODY IS PERFECT, khau dschai mai?
