  1. You can buy a 50 million bht condo but you still have to cough up the 800k, of course it probably wouldnt be a problem, but why?.. its the inconvenience of having to line up at immigration every few months

You can't eat a condo and it may take a while to sell. Their requirement is the 800K must be liquid. Money in fixed term bank accounts don't count either.

  2. Any members who know of an alternative?

    Local Police Station.

    Your Embassy.

    Local Amphur.

Alternatively try to get your own Tabian Ban and you'll never need a C of R again.

Not true. Some places will say no.

Yes, I've head of some cases where the DLT in Banglamung wouldn't accept the Yellow Tabien Ban. They only wanted the letter of residence from the Chonburi Immigration Office in Jomtien.

  3. Finding just half a rai is getting hard to find. Five years ago, I put about a half rai of land up for sale and it sold within 2 weeks! After the floods occurred in Bangkok a few years ago, most of the small plots were bought up by the Bangkokians. You'll probably have to check out one of the new housing developments being built, of which there are several. Signs are posted all along Huai Yai Road.

Hi BB1950. I've got a 1.2 rai plot in Huay Yi I am thinking of selling. Can you tell me how you advertised your land for sale when it sold so quickly? And approx how much to ask for it. It has about 50 meters of paved road on one side, is fenced, has electricity/phone to the property, and a small pond on it?

There are several of 1 rai+ plots of land in the area. Many being offered are overpriced and hence don't sell so easily! The OP specifically mentioned a half a rai which is harder to find. 10+ years ago you could get plots for about 200,000 Baht/rai. Now it's more like 2,000,000+ Baht/rai! You mentioned that it has a small pond which sounds like it might need to be filled as it may be a plot that's susceptible to flooding. There are many plots like that. Years ago they were small rice patties.

The plot I sold 5 years ago was about 0.45 rai. The government had just put in a new cement road which ran along one side and I had the land along the adjacent side deeded to the government to put in a short soi. The plot was on a slight hill higher than the surrounding roads. The plot had 3 phase power brought to one corner of the plot. The asking price was $750,000 baht which wasn't discounted. I advertised it through Baht&Sold. Generally, plots of land that are 1 million baht or less are much easier to sell as it makes building a house much more affordable.

  4. I've lived in Huai Yai for about 10 years now and never once regretted the move from Jomtien. I never had any problems! Whereas in Jomtien I had several burglaries. The baht buses stop about 5pm and don't start until 5am so it helps keep the bad guys away. Although I've had the telephone cable stolen by the copper thieves a few times.

Like everything around Pattaya it's getting more crowded and prices are going up. But the area is still nice, peaceful and quite and it's still much cooler because of the vegetation around. But it's disappearing quickly because of all the construction. It will probably get worse when the extension of Highway 7 is completed in a few years.

Huai Yai is a huge area and so is Jomtien, so the distance to Jomtien varies considerably. Average distance is about 10 Km.

  5. What is a "blower on foot"?

I'm just taking a guess... My guess is it would be some kind of backpack blower or leaf blower. But it could be any kind of portable blower that could be carried around. I think the OP needs to clarify. Also whether it's gas or electric?

  6. Could be that they think this is a second account- which is against their terms and conditions. Nothing says you have to use your real name.

Maybe... When I unlocked an FB account by submitting a copy of passport. They DID change the name of the account to the name on the passport. That would imply to me, that they want you to use your real name!

  7. Actually,i use the USSD codes *500*9# and *777*30# for another reason: it is an easy way to extend the validity of a SIM card without adding more credit.

I get those 30 minutes, but i also extend the validity of the SIM by 30 days.

It is possible to do it several times at once: eg using this USSD code 3 times gives you 90 minutes and 90 days validity.

Okay, that seems to make a little more sense. Your saying by using those USSD codes you get 30 minutes that are valid for 5 days and it extends your validity for 30 days. Really? Why mention the 5 days validity at all? It doesn't make sense, but then again TIT! laugh.png

Does that mean in the end you get 35 or 30 days validity for those 30 minutes?

Just to clarify, regarding the promotional features of using *500*9# or *777*30# AIS USSD codes,

From the AIS Call Center FaceBook page:

How to extend validity of AIS-One-2 Call prepaid?

AIS Call Center Thank for your message Mr. Meel. You can extend validity by two methods; first, you can top up with minimum amount 50 Baht and get validity extend for 30 days or another is to subscribe Mao Mao 30 Baht/package to extend 30 days. Besides package subscription 30 Baht, you will get free 30 minutes for local call within 5 days (the free minute is only using in Thailand). You can dial *500*9# (for AIS One-2-Call) or *777*30# (for AIS 3G One-2-Call) even you are in Thailand or oversea (the operator should be supported with USSD code).

Please be noted that your mobile number status should be activate to subscribe Mao Mao 30. If the status is Suspend, you should top up to make the status activate first.

So it's a combo promotional code. Use the code, an in addition to extending your current validity an additional 30 days you also receive 30 minutes of domestic call credits valid for the next 5 days.

Sign up for Mao Mao will not result in extended validity, except a 30-Baht package which will extend validity period by 30 days.

Thanks so much for clarifying these two USSD codes! wai.gif

I didn't realize the AIS accounting system was capable of maintaining a separate validity for those 30 promotional minutes.

I've decided not to add these two USSD codes to my AIS USSD Codes list. I don't use AIS pre-paid (12Call). My SIMS are all post-paid accounts. My list does not attempt to document the 12Call promotional plans. The AIS promotions change frequently. It would take too much of my time to keep up with them. The list is not intended to be a public list of all the AIS USSD codes.

I've only added the very basic 12Call USSD codes for friends who just visit Thailand from time to time. They aren't concerned about validity. They often use up their minutes before the validity expires. As you mentioned, a Top-up of just 50 Baht, extends the validity by 30 days.

They usually get tired of Thailand after a few weeks. They just get a new 12Call SIM at 7-11 when they come to Thailand. They have no reason to keep the previous numbers! It's often better that contacts they meet while on previous visits to Thailand don't know how to contact them when they come again.

They all have smart phones. For the contacts they intended to keep in contact with, they just add them to the Line app which is installed on their phones. Prior to them leaving for Thailand, I just e-mail the list to them. They then put the list on their phones to act as a handy reference while they are visiting here. That's why the list is in a PDF format. It can be viewed on most smart phones!

  8. I've been doing some tests. If you use this Link, it gets past the browser and terms of agreement check. It takes you directly to this screen:

It doesn't have a problem with Firefox 37.0.1 after that. Before I could fill out only the first page and when submitting it I received an error message to contact my local immigration office with Firefox 37. By using the above link, I could get past all the problem pages. You don't need a user agent switching add-on or Internet Explorer! bah.gif

A real time saver for me! thumbsup.gif

  9. I just tried the online 90 day reporting system. I'm from the USA. It didn't give me the option of selecting the USA, only the outying islands. After submitting the report, I got a message saying to contact my local Immigration office. I don't know why. I could be several reasons. I'd say the system doesn't work as advertised. I won't do it in the future.

My current 90 day notification has a barcode. My local Immigration office told me on my last 90 day report that I don't need to bring in any documentation, just show the barcode. But I will bring documentation just to play it safe. The documentation requirements are always changing! I always have it covered just in case. The office isn't close by. rolleyes.gif

"I'm from the USA. It didn't give me the option of selecting the USA, only the outying islands."

    Your nationality is "American."

Thanks for the information. It still didn't work. I had heard the Firefox browser works so I used it. I re-tried with IE and got through the end. I now have a pending status.

If Firefox is supposed to work, maybe it's one of the add-ons I use was blocking it from working. I'll check it out again in 90 days. biggrin.png Next time I'll try the extension that's supposed to make Firefox look like IE.

  10. Welcome to Thailand! I once lived in a place when had no water for two months! But it's easy to get your tanks filled when they go dry.

  12. Just around the corner from me, we were out of power from about 11am to 8pm. One of the nastiest storm since I moved here.

Please don't spoil the fun for the Thai bashers whistling.gif

With the highly developed infrastructure in their homecountry like USA such damage would never happen.

They have unbreakable wooden poles cheesy.gif

Yeah, but termites and aother insects eat the wooden poles here in Thailand. They wouldn't last long. cheesy.gif

  14. Are you aware of the fact that some USSD codes may be not the same in AIS and AIS 3G?

For example, to get 30 free minutes of usage valid for 5 days it is *500*9# in AIS and AIS 3G - or *777*30# in AIS 3G only

    [...]

Regarding the free minutes of usage you mentioned, is there a charge to get them by dialing the codes you mentioned? If so, what is the charge? I would like to add them to the list once I know more about the details.

The reason I ask is because, by dialing *500*1, it's supposed to give 25 minutes of calling time, which is valid for 48 hours and has a charge of 20 Baht associated with it.

^^ Yep, similar. AIS Mao Mao Service *500 codes (see list) have charges associated with them.

Not "Free" minutes, the *500*xyz# Mao Mao codes are call-plan promotions that you pre-pay to receive.

The AIS 3G Post-Paid Smart Easy *777 codes (see list)

The AIS 3G Add-on Data Packages *777 codes (see list)

Thank you uhuh for your input and RichCor for you links! wai.gif

I've updated my listing based on your inputs, it's attached to this post.

uhuh, I didn't add the Mao Mao Service *500*9# USSD code as it's not documented very clearly in the Mao Mao Service link which RichCor provided. In fact, it's confusing! Probably lost in translation. crazy.gif

I didn't change the *777# USSD code '.Promotions' entry as the *777*30# wasn't defined in the *777 links which RichCor provided. Besides that, the intention wasn't intended to show all the AIS USSD promotional service codes for subscribing or canceling the overwhelming list of promotional plans! (The AIS staff have difficulty keeping up with them too!) I did take up your suggestion that some USSD codes are in different (but similar) for various SIMs and account types and noted it in the list. Thanks for you suggestion!

I did add the other Mao Mao Service codes in the link. Considering they'd be helpful for short-term visitors to Thailand. I also cleaned up some other ambiguities and grammar that I noticed wasn't clear.

  15. Are you aware of the fact that some USSD codes may be not the same in AIS and AIS 3G?

For example, to get 30 free minutes of usage valid for 5 days it is *500*9# in AIS and AIS 3G - or *777*30# in AIS 3G only

No, I haven't seen that before. I know there are differences in USSD codes for AIS prepaid (12Call) and AIS postpaid.

I didn't list the differences as I don't have an AIS 12Call SIM. AIS postpaid works for best for me, as I don't have to topups all the time and AIS offers more promotions.

I compiled the list, as I haven't seen an accurate source with a complete list of AIS USSD Codes. AIS has the USSD codes on various different web pages and literature. There are some codes they don't promote or advertise. I picked up some USSD codes from Expat forums, but found a lot of them that didn't work. Maybe it's because of the differences in SIMs?

Regarding the free minutes of usage you mentioned, is there a charge to get them by dialing the codes you mentioned? If so, what is the charge? I would like to add them to the list once I know more about the details.

  16. This is spooky!. Today (15th) my internet is working perfectly but the phone line is dead. How can that be?. I have a TOT line in and a 'splitter' to serve the computer and phone. I've checked my phone in a second line I have in the bedroom and it still does not work.

Obviously, I recognise the phone apparatus itself could be defective but, is it possible to have the internet working but the phone not? Usually, it's the other way round.

    Signed

    Confused darkside facepalm.gif

Yes, it's possible. The phone signal comes from the TOT office and the internet signal comes from a DSLAM box mounted on a pole. It happens to me all the time. A call to TOT (1100) takes care of it. But one time I did have a failure with a telephone instrument.
