I give you my experience in Thailand, about 5 years ago, basic wage was then 6000 baht a month! I rented a 2 bedroom house for 6000 a month as well in Nonthabury, Pak Kret, I shopped in the traditional Thai market, prices were ridiculously cheap, beef was sold by the Muslim women , and mutton did not exist, fish, prawns etc were very cheap, I used lot of rice, and bread was backed by a Vietnamese family nearby , very cheap, I don't consume alcohol or smoke and never ate out side, I comfortably lived on $200 a month, my salary was $(US)10 000 per month including allowances etc and nearly saved all of it. I was transferred to UBON and the cost there was 30% less than, I never got involved with Thai ladies etc, guess that would have been a cost!!!! If you could abstain from monotonous indulgence in the amber brew , given that you are British, and sucking piss at the Pub is part of the life style, that may be a problem, otherwise if you could manage to live away from Bangkok, or major cities and stick to Thai food, you should survive well, I met an American who lived out side UBON in village with his Thai wife, he told me had he lived in USA, he would have to collect cans and bottles to have made ends meet. As starting business, I would caution against, as small business are notorious for failure, first settle down then see how things pan out! believe me if you could give up alcohol you be saving money and improving your health as well!

I been using Linux for 10 years, the ones I started with all got eaten up by the corporations, Red Hat , Mandrake, one day I was going home and in front of a News Agency there were this packets left for free! So I took few home!

Linux is difficult system and there are far too many distributions, or Distros , if you don't know anything about programming, C language etc you have to learn a bit otherwise it is frustrating and you will spend lot time in the forums to get help!

It is very easy to use it now, compared with few years ago! It was hell installing and even worst trying to connect to Internet! When the ADSL game , it was terrible to get Internet going!

It is like a car, many people drive it, but don't know what is under the hood or how to deal with the engine electrical etc! In Linux you got to know how the engine runs!

In some areas there far more software than for Windows! For example Music, Disk Burning , Desktop Environment etc.

Most large corporation run Linux behind the Windows, Banks completely run on Linux! I used for Finite Element Analysis, Date Base, Internet and Mathematics!

It is free from hassle of license etc, and no virus, no freezing no slow down! It is horses for courses!

My wife and I have been together to 6 years and been married for 3. She did not marry me to move to another country or get another passport as she does not want to leave Thailand, nor did she marry me for money. We have had several difficult times where I had no money for months and she took care of paying all the bills. She owns her own shop and makes ok money, my business is up and down. It all depends on the girl and where you meet her and of course how stupid you are if you marry a girl that you only know for 6 months or 1 year and she is 20 years younger than you which you met her in a bar, chances are very good it's not love... So many guys move here and leave their brains in their home country. Also, have several friends that have Thai wives and they are all doing good, the girls are nice and not just looking for money. Again all depends on the girl!!
