  1. Hello,

I went to ministry of land transport on Sukhumvit today just to see that is was closed. A guard outside told me it was holiday and they will open again tomorrow at 7.30 am.

    I have 2 exams tomorrow 9.00-12.00 and 14.00-16.00.

I have all the documents needed. And I can even prepare copies of passport.

    *Embassy Translation of Swedish License

*Embassy confirmation of my address in Thailand

*Non-Immigrant VISA + copies of passport

    *Medical Certificate (done today).

If I wait outside at 7.15am until they open 7.30. Do you think I will be able to get my license before 9.00? I will probably be among the first people entering.

It is ok if I am done at 9, as I can enter the exam at 10.00 at latest.

I do not need to take written theory-test or driving test right? All I need is color test, reaction and periferal sight. Is this correct?

Edit: Change of plans. If I finish my first exam fast. I can be out by 10.00 am, then I have time 10-14 to get my License. It should be enough even though it is Friday and the day after holiday I hope.

Can anyone just confirm that I do not need written/computer test and driving test?

  2. Hello after my Sony Ericsson died during the Song krang festivals I bought a new Samsung phone to use with my pre-paid 12-call package.

Now my screen turns white and commercial messages/ads pop up every now and then. It is always in Thai but it bothers me a lot.

Even the in-phone browser has been poluted by 12-call ads for their website in the top and bottom. (this was not the case the first day of usage).

On my old phone I was used of getting 3-4sms/mms daily which pissed me off but I could just delete them unread once a week. This is much more annoying.

What can I do to cure my phone? If it is impossible with my sim-card I am ready to change.

  3. You really should be getting a new passport as with less than six months they are almost useless for travel except to your home country. You will not be able to obtain a visa with less than six months validity.

Yes I guess I should. This process will take longer than I expected. A new Swedish Passport costs 6450bhat when made from the embassy and it takes 2 weeks. Work permit papers will be processed 2-3 weeks. So I guess I have to do my WP on this old passport anyway, as I think that my boss wants me to start ASAP. ( I will discuss this with him later today).

My plans are that I go back to Sweden in end of May for the summer or just shorter vacation.

If I can continue working for this company I will not need the University 1 year visa-extension anyway. Will my passport expiring in Oct make it difficult to get a Non-B visa? It is for 3 months only without the extensions?

  4. You can study on any kind of visa, but on and ED-visa you are not allowed to work. So you have to get a non-B and than you will have no problem working and studying at the same time.

But there are minimum requirements for your salary if you want an extension of stay based on your work. The minimum requirement depends on your nationality and is for most western countries 50,000 a month. If you earn less, you can get a work permit, but not an extension of stay. You would need to get a multiple entry non-B and leave the country every 90 days.

My boss suggested I got paid by the hour since this is for a project (further employment is likley but not certain) that ends in May. Is there any minimum hourly wage?

I could maybe set my salary to min 50,000 but still count the hours and get paid for the exceeding hours (if they exist).

  5. Hello,

I have been accepted by a big company's small Thai-organization. My work can only be done by a foreigner.

As their organization in Thailand is small, my future boss asked me to find information on how to get a work permit. I have googled it and I found some lists stating what you need, but not much on what your employer need to do.

Who writes the job-description? Me or my employer? Also is there a work permit form you need to fill out?

I have a non-immigrant visa (student) expiring in May(will get one more year then from my University) is it ok to use when applying for WP?

Edit: My passport expires oct this year. And the work permit will be for only 3 or 6 months.

  6. Hello. Just got true 4mbit adsl with a Zyxel wifi-router. The firmware on it sucks as I cannot change anything. Portforwarding dmz etc.

Now my Wii cannot connect via the router. What can I do?

I have an old Huawei adsl modem and a Linksys wifi-router (used them 2 years ago with TRUE. If there's no other way I might try them.

  7. Hello, I am living in a serviced apartment in Bangkok.

They have 2 connections of 4mbit TRUE ADSL (according to the admin). And they are selling cards offering 1024kbps/256kbps to all residents (70+). They have also blocked torrents and forced it to be one computer only (login/password).

Luckily I'm moving next month to a condo and get my own dsl-connection.

I just wonder if the ways of my apartment is legal.

8mbit/70rooms is not enough. And they market it "Hi speed internet 1M/512 (in my logonwindow the upload is only 256).

For an internet card (only one computer (good bye Wii, XBOX, PSP, DS etc.))They charge 600BHAT.

I believe this is very common in Thailand, but I doubt that it is legal.

    Can anyone enlighten me?

  8. I bought my brushless model in Saphan Lek in ChinaTown, They have lots of small shops that sells RC. Some are more advances than others.

I myself did the beginners mistake of ordering a too strong engine. My plane flew away in 100km/h into a pine-tree. After ordering more expensive spareparts in Sweden I got it to fly again, this time being a little more easy on the throttle. It flew well and the LI-PO accs are great. Good power and long flying time.

  9. Hello. I bought a 1979 model of Honda C70 about a month ago.

I love it alot and I have decided to give it to my dad on his 60th birthday in June next year.

I bought it for 18.000bhat so I guess I will have to pay 25%(swedish VAT) at the customs.

Can I just go to a Thailand Post office and they help me arrange the shipment?

I know it will take around 3 months for it to arrive by boat to Sweden (if not robbed by pirates :o ).

What company/post office should I use? What will it cost? And will there be any regulations on the thai side?
