while the school director said that the children had been told not to play in that area as it was dangerous and off limits
If he knew this why did he not get something done to prevent accidents? He surely is guilty of serious negligence or worse

Disgraceful. Everybody should write to the UK Embassy in Bangkok and complain about this. Their email is [email protected].

You are all completely wrong.
It's obvious the train was too long.
You are correct. Will the govt now cancel the new express train project?

Did the bike rider forget give way to the right?
As well as to the left, behind, in front, above, below........
Of course the MC, on seeing the PU, could have taken a pre-emptive action of slowing down in anticipation....ach no. TIT

Every weekday morning, more than 100 bikes are parked on the road outside Prakhonchai Bus Station by schoolkids from the nearby school. They are not allowed to take the bikes into school grounds unless thay have a licence and wear helmets. What a simple task it would be for the Police to be near the bus station at 4pm-after school - and stop all the kids without helmets being worn, fine them and confiscate the bikes for 1 week. They are a sitting target! But of course that is too much trouble for our mighty Police, even though they could probably pocket half of what they fined the kids.
It is time for everyone to start caring and do something about the horrific accidents that occur daily.
It is not a matter of "not caring" . It is an absence of an understanding or recognition of "cause and effect"

They also stopped BBC Entertainment which was my main viewing channel.
I paid an extra a la carte fee for that. They knocked that off my latest bill but no explanation why it ceased. And why can't I get Al Jazeera or any other news channel in English, other than BBC or CNN?
Try Watchfree.to. You can get all the UK series including a series of Father Brown which was not shown on BBC Entertainment.
I complained to BBC but was told they had discontinued the Entertainment and another channel through Asian distributor. And they said I should push True to get them to take the new channels from BBC (I think like SG has).
But the BBC is so poor that I really do not miss them. They have soooooo many repeats which they justify by saying "but everybody else does it".

Not in the US... Sure no one will be surprised though.
Surely that undermines the US's strictly enforced population control measures - namely giving guns to any nutter

I always pull over and get out of the way for an ambulance with lights flashing, but many, many people don't. There are a fair number of ambulances on the elevated expressway between Chonburi and BKK. I travel that road frequently. I assume a number of those ambulances are taking people to hospitals with more specialized care than can be found in Chonburi. They travel quite quickly in the outer most lane, but a lot of people just don't move over for them.
On the ambulance (and police and other emergency vehicles), they need to have and follow strict guidelines about the use of lights and sirens. On more than one occasion, I have seen them traveling with the lights on and then pull over somewhere and get coffee.
Part of the problem definitely lies with ambulances using emergency lights all the time - emergency or not. That results in many people ignoring them unless they hear the sirens. They need to stop doing this so that their emergency lights will be respected as they are in Europe. Come on ambulance drivers; only use your lights in emergencies!!
Also many drivers seem to think their mirrors are for tidying their hair or putting on their makeup.

Thai airways is not in the habit of giving refunds! they will not answer complaints and hope it goes away when the tourist leave. as I live here i had a complaint with them misrepresenting their Business class with "thai smiles" got in touch with them and got a form letter, no refund!or no explanation even thought my boarding pass stated "business" class.and the Thai airways offices? no speak english or give the Sgt shultz apporach, "I know nothing"!
As a regular Thai Airways user I take issue with your broad brush statements. I fly for business on full fare tickets and have to change or cancel my flights on a regular basis , I have never had issues with the Thai call center regarding refunds or flight changes.
Gon yersel Rab. Good to see a positive comment here for a change. I also have never had a problem with Thai ticketing/refunds etc

1 Improve Thai driving test to actual road driving as in UK and learning the rules of the road like UK Highway Code.
2 punish minor traffic offences with bans - increasing with each subsequent offence up to lifetime ban
3 punish serious traffic offences (drunk driving, vehicular manslaughter etc) with prison
4 cut out BIB "toll" gates. They seriously undermine respect for BIB.
5 teach BIB to drive correctly as per European police driving standards and then they might be able to enforce traffic laws
6 enforce traffic laws
7 enforce traffic laws
8 enforce traffic laws
9 enforce..... enforce.....enforce.......where's the nearest nut-house?......beam me up Scottie....enforce.....enforce......enforce.....enforce
-
Well if this stops your average motorcycle moron getting his hands on a "big bike" then that is definitely going to be good for road safety.
Of course the alternatives are to introduce a real driving test and enforcement of the rules of the road.
But I guess the ban is easier to carry out..

A similar situation happened to me some years ago when I was a Customs Officer in Zambia.
A Zambian came waltzing through the Customs Hall from the public area without any introduction.
I jumped over the Customs bench, grabbed him by the arm and took him back outside.
When I returned to the Customs Hall I was advised by one of my Zambian staff that it had been the District Governor.
Two minutes later the man returned to the Customs Hall and came straight up to me.
Instead of berating me he congratulated me on my firm action and promised the situation would never happen again.
I had serious respect for that man

Housepainter - wow! Angry man. Who stole your lollipop?
Tourist police seems a good idea - so does actually waiting to see the outcome of this investigation before condemning it.
It's time to throw away the sour lemons and actually consider why we are in Thailand and how good we have it here compared with the countries most of us come from.

It is sad that English racism even permeates this message board.
However, having lived with it for more than 60 years, it rarely surprises me any more how far they can travel and still retain their contempt for other people's traditions and way of life.

So this has become a 'Brits Abroad' thread.
I would say that the majority of the lager lout types do not go to Thailand; they have their resorts in Spain, Greece and Cyprus and I feel sorry for any local or regular holidaymaker that ends up there unwittingly and these idiots ar a total disgrace.
In Phuket the English are no worse than the Swedes, Finns, Aussies.
The thread is actually about the dangers of holidaying in Thailand. I would guess that it's not just the English who would come up with these statistics either. There are numerous threads on here, many quite recent, pertaining to the ongoing dangers of Thailand as a tourist detination. For those that disputed thjis, I hope this latest report mighht enabple you to change your stance that Thailand is an extremely safe country for tourists.
I think you are right - it is the English who cause all these problems not the other Brits - Welsh, Scots, N.Irish.
Or did I misinterpret your anglo-centric writings?
Today's lesson for the geographically/dermographically challenged
English = from England (not Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland)
British = from Great Britain (but generally accepted to include Northern Ireland) and includes England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland

Too bad. I really loved the Don Mueang airport, will this relocation means the the property around the Don Mueng area is going down?
Would make a super bus terminus,no shortage of parking and completion of the rail link would be the icing on the cake. Then again it probaby will be another shopping centre which Bangkok really needs.
Why not turn Don Mueang into a regional Duty Free Shopping Centre with low cost flights from regional countries and the airport buildings turned into shopping arcades, amusement parks and hotels. There is already a golf course.
I am sure with a bit of imaginative thinking they could create a major source of foreign exchange and employment.
As far as Don Mueang keeping domestic traffic - have you seen how many flights there are? Definitely not enough to justify a second airport. Singapore and Hong Kong are also single airport cities - because there is no domestic travel. Cities with 2 airports also have a much larger domestic travel market (like Shanghai, Seoul, Taipei etc).

Oh dear here we go again. England = Britain = UK. England = England.
Sad that English people are the only nationality in the world who do not know their own country's name or borders.

Thai army set to evacuate Thais in Myanmar
how can the thai army arrange an evacuation of thai citisens in the foreign country other than military intervention?
That would be the last resort normally. How ever, the military could provide an airlift/sealift capability to get citizens out.
In Sierra Leone a couple years ago, military forces from a couple of western countries (I think it was mainly France, England and a small group from Canada) landed in the country and essentially took over the air and sea ports in order to evacuate their citizens. A little different situation there though. If any country tried to force their way in to Burma (to effect an evacuation), they would probably face a (slightly) better trained and organized military than what was present in Sierra Leone back then.
Either way, the situation isn't looking good.
Mmmmmmm - England doesn't have any military forces.
Report: All foreign tourists will soon need insurance in order to enter Thailand

It seems like a good idea. It can be enforced if airlines refuse to board Thai bound passengers without insurance.
The airlines do this for travellers without visas or who want to visit countries which require health certificates. No certificate - no boarding.
Surface travellers are another matter although train companies can do the same.
I seem to remember many years ago being refused boarding when travelling from Lima to San Jose , Costa Rica. I also received a free insurance cover when I arrived in another Latin American country. Nice gesture although cover was very limited.
