  1. Really pretty vague., Wat Oumong ( outside the city) has the phrases on trees and such... Inside the old city Wat Pra Singh.... or the smaller Wat Oumong... ( yes there are two.... .. You just hve to wander down the center of the city . Find the pink brick walkway that runs through the sois. ( not the major roads but the lanes and alleys.. The temples have door opening to these.. And its a plesant walk.. Cheers.

  2. Try Walking Street on Sundays. Great art all over. Also Chiang Mai University Art Department at Nimmanhaemin and Suthep sometimes has sales outside. And there's always a Thursday open market at the uni, second entrance on Suthep just up from Nimmanhaemin. Try these. there are more too. And these are cheaper than the others. Cheers from Montreal.

  3. Kasems / 2 stores in CM one on Nimmanhaemin the first next to Warrorot Market north of Chang Moi street.

Doi Tung coffee is good too. Can buy it in beans from the Aka who run the coffee shop in Chiang Rai. If you need I can look up the address.

Am in Canada right now. Best

  4. Try the music dept of Payab uni. Sure there is a thai ajarn there who could help you. Could also try Santi Music School, Soi 13 (?) Nimmanhaemin. Put free announcement in City Life mag. ( search in google) and try CMU. The fine arts dept might have someone there. Other music schools in town too. Depends on where you're going to live.

I was there 16 yrs and loved it. Good luck.

  5. I agree with this, I don't see the need for a celebration to accentuate differences. I'm not gay but know many people who are and both Thai and foreigners seem to be very well accepted into the community. To hold an event which merely serves to exaggerate the differences would I think have an adverse affect on the local community. It would grate on their tolerance and would highlight divisions. If you want to live successfully in a local community the best way is to integrate and it's a little difficult to do when you keep pointing out that you are different.

However if the gay community wanted to organise something that the whole community could take part in, then it would be received rather differently.

It's a little bit as if I wanted to organise a parade for foreigners only, the local community immediately would be excluded.

Sorry Sally our posts crossed but I would like to respond. I believe all people are welcome at the festival. That is why it is organised as public event. In other Gay Pride events around the world everyone is welcome regardless of sexual preference. I have no reason to believe Chiang Mai would be any different.

It;s just a public expression of self hood. Why necessary? Because LGBT feel opressed and maginalized.

Why not Hetro parade. Well you ahve one every day. Every day is an expression of heroseuality. LGBT need to have a place at the table and you guys have got to move over and shut up about it. You're living behind the times. Didn;t you read the article.
