  1. I am a Jew and the few Thais I do tell I am Jewish do not even know what a Jew is. I could not believe the first one I told I thought they were joking. I bet all the nationalities on here know what a Jew is, except if you are Thai. The Thai education is generally an insult to the people, keeping them uneducated to not take on in adult life the Thai elite. As many of my friends say Thais are only one step out of the jungle. But with internet access in most cities it is surprising they still don't know what a Jew is.

Just because the internet is only to play games. On the other hand, knowing other religions is part of their High School curriculum. Well, pure theory in the occurrence I'm afraid...

  2. It reflects terribly on the university itself and proves that there are an awful lot of supposedly learned people, who know very very little about the world around them whatsoever running around in this country.

That's the key issue, anything that's not Thai is Farang. Farang food, Farang language and so on, they just don't know, that's all don't blame them. I got pupils wearing t-shirts with a swastika on it, well not a real Swastika, the nazi one, I had to explain them, they were not aware at all!

On the other hand, we should turn the page. Not forget, but stop using it as a propaganda that justifies all what is going on in Palestine.

  3. Last time I got my bike serviced by Mittyon/Pattaya, they said I had to replace my tyres 11 500 THB without labour.

I don't know where to find the best price. I commute on highways, I don't need super grip. I would like to find long lasting tyres.

I also find that the prices at Myttyon's are in general quite high. 1 210 THB for two sparkplugs, 700 THb for two litres of oil etc.

If someone has some good advice...

I work not far from Jomtien (Pattaya) and live in Sriracha and there isn't any Kawasaki or big bike dealer here.

  4. The other night, I've been cheased by katoey's on soy 8 in bar 69ers.

I replied, a bit to strongly I must admit, that I am a straight man and I don/t like fakes

He/She was not alone and I've been attacked.Result: Banglamung hospital for their sake I am 60 years old.

They are nothing, not males not females that's why they don't respect anybody. I am 60 years old now that's Thai tradition: respect elder people?

I'd like to know wheter a lawyer could help me pursue them and bring the case to the court.

The owner of bar 69ers is legally responsible isn't he?

    Thanks for your help

    Cheers

  5. Hello there,

I bought my CBR250R last year (end of May). From the very first day, the bike got problems. While running the bike in, it was not possible to shift at low revs, no torque. I tought this was due to the sport character of that bike (the previous one was a Phantom)

I got all problems (rattle, stalling engine, petrol gauge, vibrations, clutch, loss of power). look on the cbr250r forum you will see that many people complain. there are also some positive posts, coming from Honda staff, I guess...

Mechanics from Honda came three times, the bike went twice to AP Honda. The first time, it came back with all problems solved, but it lasted less than 2 000 Km. I noticed then that something was wrong the very first days, because when the bike came back from AP Honda, it got enough torque to shift at lower revs and ran much better.Last time two people came from AP Honda and made a test ride. Altough I believe there is something wrong with the injection/valves, they came with the conclusion that bearings in the clutch were the origin of the loss of power. The first mechanic who came changed the clutch, or a prt of it, why a second time? They said they would come back with a whole new clutch. After, they changed their mind and took the bike to the factory to measure power and torque. They brought the bike back with graphs showing everything was fine. I took my bike which vibrated even more than before, nobody was there from AP, only the dealer's wife who is very nice but this doesn't help anything. The bike cannot reach the same speed as when it came back from AP the first time. Example, in fifth gear, impossible to go further than 9000 rpms, at 9000 rpms, you feel that the engine is not running well. If you ride without helmet, you can hear weird noises in the cylinder head. The bike has a programmed electronic injection and an electronic ignition but when you keep the throttle at the same level (neutral gear) the engine's rotation speed varies by itself. When you ride, and keep 5000 revs ( 4500 5000 6000 doesn't matter) you feel that the engine is not running continously. My next step will be to bring the case to the court, we could be stronger if we address the issue together.

I exclusively use Gasohol 91 (E10) as recommended.

  6. I have been living here for more than eight years now, I am Belgian. Those beers here are simply hawful. The mentioned Export is an attempt to improve things, but a Thai "beer" remains a Thai "beer". I am drinking one right now it has the little sour taste of a failed brew (bad fermentation).

Chang started together with Carlsberg, but the owner believed he would not need the knowledge of Carlsberg anymore and cancelled the agreement: result = a poison: Chang Classic. Before settling here I used to have every now and then a Singha, more in a mood of nostalgy than for the taste. Now I can tell you, I regret Belgian and German beers and the famous German Reinheits Gebot. To avoid any trouble with our acccross the Channel friends, I must add that I also like a good Martin's Pale Ale...

I bought from Tesco Lotus a few bottles of Paulaner hell Bier (Munich Beer) it costs THB 93 a bottlle (33cc). I do not regret my 93 THB (times x - secret défense). Just try it and then you will notice how a beer should taste...

  7. Hello everyone,

Well although I am a member of this forum I almost never post an answer.

I have worked in Thailand for more than four years.

I teach French and English (part time). I have a WP from the first days, without too much difficulties. The costs are covered by the school or the University where I work(ed).

One has to pay attention to things like reentry permit and so on. I have a TEFL certificate and a Master Degree, it helps...

I would like to take this opportunity to warn every one against scams, in particular jobs in Nigeria :o linked with an attractive package, it's merely a swindling! I got such a proposition a few days ago, fortunately they are not very clever. :D

    Cheers for now. :D

  8. I mean this might have been already covered in another topic but I haven't found it. I'm working in Thailand since december 2003. My first visa was an non immigrant B multiple entry issued at the Embassy of Brusseles - Belgium. I had asked for a multiple re entry permit at the immigration office of the district where I'm living. At the end of the first year, I went at the immigration to have a renewal of my visa. Instead of a multiple entry, I choose a single entry (advised by the staff of my employer) I wasn't aware I had to ask for a re entry before leaving the country, so my visa has been cancelled after my first journey out of Thailand. I went then to Vientiane and got a non B single entry. I had to leaveThailand again and at the airport I got a single re entry permit. At the end of the validity I went at the immigration where they say they cannot extend my visa. So back to Vientiane...

I have a work contract here and would like to know what to do in order to get a multiple re entry as the first time in order to avoid any future problems.

I hope you get the point as English isn't my mother tongue.

Many thanks to the one who can help me to understand this regulation

    regards

  9. I am new on this forum. So maybe there is a FAQ area with an answer on my question.

I was employed in France till the end of 2002 and receive now a "salary" from the social security. As I am 51, the chance to find a new position here is about nihil! (despite  my Master Degree and fluency in 4 major Eur. languages!)

I have just received a proposal to be a french teacher somewhere in Thailand (French is my mother tongue and I do have a teaching experience) I know the country and am able to communicate in colloquial Thai, so this is not the issue.

The main worry is the financial one. What does really mean this minimum salary of 50.000 THB a month as tax base, what are the risks linked with the renewal of a workpermit or of a non-immigrant "B" visa?

    many thanks

    regards
