  1. Yes, you are right, the rumor of Thaksin's death and the news of his cancer battle have been on the internet in Thai language as by far the biggest news of the last few days. ABC and other news sources have also covered it in English. However, when we at the Pattaya Times covered it we followed Prime Minister Abhisit agreeing to dissolve Parliament and step down under conditions. He also had just been called to the Palace before his announcement. The link below has much more information than the posting on ThaiVisa. We thank Thaivisa.com for the forum and the opportunity for members to read this introduction of our account from a local level here in Pattaya, home of the Red Shirt storming of the ASEAN conference. We interviewed the most powerful man closest to Thaksin to get his perspective and added information no one else had. Thanks again. Drew Noyes, Publisher, Pattaya Times newspaper.

Actually, this rumor has been going around the web for days, weeks even. From the awful photoshopped facebook pages to the wheres waldo aspect of it, its even been covered in general. But perhaps you should bring it up with the publisher of the Pattaya Times
  2. Freedom of the Press in its pure form does not exist in Thailand. Therefore, foreign journalists have found ways to convey information allowing foreign readers to "read between the lines." The article by me (Drew Noyes) about Thaksin is full of many reasons why the current government agreed to new elections and what would happen if and when Thaksin, who suffers from cancer, dies. I also interviewed a possible future successor to Thaksin who said Thaksin is alive. If the article on the front page of http://www.Pattaya-Times.com is read carefully in its entirety new information may be discovered.

The article about "Police Crackdown on Foreign Owned Sex Bars" in a prior edition of the Pattaya Times was a warning with the solution how to avoid arrest simply for owning the bar as a foreigner. Since the article was published in the Pattaya Times only a few go gos have been busted and a French pedophile was arrested. That is good. Information is vital.

The rumor about Thaksin is dead is just that, a rumor. But it is an influence on many people so it is good for us to know. Ask a Thai to Google this rumor in Thai and you will see that it is the main topic of discussion now.

    Who is Drew Noyes?

    What are his journalistic credentials?

Does he have any previous credible pieces published?

    Not heard of him?

He's the "Sifu" of the Journalistic world :)

  3. Police crackdown on foreign operated girly bars

Of course the police will turn a blind eye to Thai owned or operated bars especially those that deliver tea money to them in brown paper bags on a regular basis. This Drew Noyes character keeps busy doesn't he? Three jobs at least - I hope that he has a business visa? As for Thais are easy to find but foreigners can Pattaya disappear in the villages did they forget that we have to go cap in hand to Immigration every 90 days to confirm our home address so that we can continue to invest in their country and be treated like second class citizens. I think that its the Thais that are difficult to find or perhaps the police don't want to find them - they always profess to have no money! I guess it makes better headlines when they arrest yet another foreigner doing naughty things and who knows they might have the money to be able to backhand their way out of trouble. Cynical from Pattaya. :)

I am that guy and yes I've got a Business Visa. The 2,000 wanted people who can disappear into the villages probably don't do a 90-day immigration reporting, by the way. Anyway, the Pattaya Times provides a link to Thaivisa.com because 99% of the members are really good people who you would want to know and to help. The front page article of the current issue of Pattaya Times on www.thaivisa.com and on www.pattaya-times.com is meant to inform any foreigner who has an investment in a bar to make sure his staff tells the police investigating the bar it is Thai owned and operated. The foreigner should not be sitting at his bar either in February. This should avoid the potential for trouble during the police crackdown coming soon. If we wanted to benefit in any way from the upcoming police crackdown we would not have published what we know in a major newspaper as a warning. We would wait and then get the foreigner OUT of trouble. I am an American and we all have to help each other so we don't have problems in our new country. And, for those of you who don't know me, just do an internet search. I have only had two guys accuse me of something bad and both of them are blacklisted out of Thailand. It’s important to all foreigners that Thais know good foreigners so they don’t treat us like second class citizens. The more respect they give some of us the more they will like all of us. The more trouble they have from some of us the more they won’t like all of us. Roger that?

  4. Some of the obvious items needed (not necessarily in order of importance);

    Thai partner.

    Large amount of cash.

    Technical know-how.

    Good lawyers and accountants.

"Friends" in various government departments.(Preferably in high places)

    Large amounts of patience.

Good health professionals, (physical and mental)

Experience in doing business in Asia, preferably Thailand.

    Lots of insurance.

    Plenty of time.

And if you want to be really original, get some trained media professionals, that can speak understandable English.

Let me know how this project goes... I've been it the broadcast industry for about 2 decades now and wouldn't mind sharing the basic fundamentals/requirements to produce and run a station. Cheers

We would like to have a cup of coffee with you and anyone with experience in the broadcast industry. Its time to bring Pattaya into the 21st Century with digital cameras, boom mikes,'studio settings, great remotes, well-scripted content and yes, native English speaking

personalities who are not just some rich guys trying to get seen. Real programming for the New Pattaya.

  5. Simple question... don't flame me.

I actually work in Media back in the west for a great company and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction for some local resources/ who to talk with in regards to starting up your own channel/ program.

I'm aware of the current news/ local expat entertainment. Seriously, this needs some SERIOUS FIXING. You people live in a great city with amazing entertainment. Wouldn't a good channel with "quality" make it a little more appealing than your current state of expat media?

Anyway, if someone could assist in this it'd be appreciated.

Please don't go flaming on me for trying to make an attempt.... lol

If you really want to start a program and you are sure the content will be relevant to the local market, then contact me, Drew Noyes, or papa Noyes as one fun comment called me. We are starting a 24-hour channel on the largest cable network in Pattaya and are looking for good programming. It will be head-and-shoulders above the others with help from seasoned professionals like you. Together we can make a difference.

We are making a serious run at improving the quality and content of the English language media in Pattaya and the Eastern Seaboard 11 provinces. We have developed a full-sized, broadsheet newspaper called the Pattaya Times. It is only one of three such newspapers in Thailand: Bangkok Post, The Nation and now Pattaya Times. Connected? It's the only newspaper sold at Pattaya Immigration. You decide.

We also publish a Thai version of the Pattaya Times.

We have also acquired FM 103, the first community radio station in Thailand, formerly called 'Bay Radio'.

We already publish the Official Thailand Survival Guide and the only phone book for Pattaya in English. We publish the Official Maps of Pattaya for Pattaya City, the Tourist Police and the Pattaya Police as well as the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

We support Thaivisa.com at every turn because it is the most effective forum and website in Thailand. George attended my wedding and it was my honor.

I tell you guys all of this to illustrate the point that we hold multiple publishing licenses and broadcast licenses. Now we are making a move into video production with the help of some well-placed friends of the family.

ANYONE connected with Thaivisa who has experience and is willing to make the commitment of time and money to start up your own program is welcome to contact us and join our cable channel. We will help you sell advertising and can give you studio time for your time slot. There are about 7 hours of programming per day available so contact me and let's see what we can do together to bring the Pattaya local TV market into the year 2009 or 2552! We plan to launch in September.

  6. Thanks for the clarification Drew, i trust you will be looking at boosting the signal somewhat as 103 can currently be a bit hit or miss at times.

I look forward to it and Good luck.

Thanks to LennyW and Craigslist for the support. We will boost the signal and relocate the transmitter for TIT FM 103 into Central Pattaya. If any one would like to donate some tme on-air or by gathering songs for broadcast we would like the extra help. We have about 30,000 song chices but mixing for radio is fun but time consuming.

  7. Thank you for the support. The success of the Pattaya Times newspaper in a big way is due to Thai Visa members, George and Barry. T.I.T. (This Is Thailand) Radio FM103 is now airing and will have a dramatic program change later this month. Yes, as one astute member posted below, 103 has been on the air for years. In fact, it was the first community radio station and run by a delightful lady named Anna who is 1/2 Thai and 1/2 American. It was called Pattaya Bay radio. At first, the format was kinda easy listening, then a really talented guy named Dragon convinced her to play exclusively hip-hop. And that worked for a while when the Russians were here. Now they are gone. We will always be here. So FM103 will play the music we like....Baby Boomers and Generation X guys who party, love life and see the best in living in Thailand!

Now Pattaya Times Media Corp. has acquired FM 103 and we want to make it the best radio station possible. Our line up is Rock 'n'Roll hits from the '70s and 80s, Talk Show mid day and Love Songs with dedications all night.

It will stream on the internet over our website under construction now as pattayatimes.co.th

Anyone who has any ideas that would be helpful to make FM 103 the station you would listen to on your car radio or in the background as you are posting or reading the forums at ThaiVisa, please let us know.

Soon we will be merging with a Bangkok production company and, yes, we are going to have TIT TV available in the next few months anywhere with computer access. TIT TV and the TIT radio will focus on Thailand and offer good coverage of the real news and events ThaiVisa guys like!

Hope to see you at the party!

    Drew

  8. My company in Thailand is one of the largest Western-owned and managed advertising & marketing companies. Thaivisa.com is one of the largest portals into Thailand for specific information on timely topics of interest to Expats living in or frequenting Thailand. With the Google Ad Words, hotel bookings and banner ad sales, etc. it COULD be worth upwards of 10 million+ Baht as"invalidusername" (I would like to know who he is becuase he makes a lot of sense) commented so correctly in pricing this site with the limited info he had available. George has done an excellent job of building Thaivisa.com into a powerful player on the internet. If he were ever to sell it, a fresh approach to a time-tested site like this could yield the investors substantial returns.
