  1. Available in HomeWorks. Bought a “grout remover scraper” there about 3 months ago.

It did the job pretty well but then discovered that you can get the same result with a saw blade, anyway you can get it there.

    A hand tool.

  2. A lot of Bull without being helpful to our fellow mates: thanks for that.

Here’s my experience at Pattaya International PIC.

    Cleaning 1,000

    Extraction 800-1,000

Crown 8,000 / unit and you will need at least 3

    Implant 70,000 / unit

    Root canal treatment 4,000/root

    Post (?) 3,000

    X ray small 140 and big 700

I politely thanked the (very nice pal) doctor and ran for the exit…

Now the big question is how deep was I taken? How much should I pay at another decent dentist? Any recommendations?

  3. Want to do a runner from the songkran mania… is there a good/cheap deals travel agent in Patters to get off for a few days to Hong-Kong or some other destination in the region? Hotel booking should be included, a bit like a package tour.

  4. Not far from my place an elderly falang in his seventies was beaten up attacked from the back when having a drink at one of the road stalls. The reason: one lady bought food there and while waiting the boyfriend arrived with his gang, one of them remarked that his girl was probably gonna join the falang for a drink. This triggered a face losing situation and the Thai started shouting, when the falang walked he got attacked from the back. His crews, not letting their buddy do the job alone joint in leaving the guy bruised and shaken. Thais don’t have the etiquette of “man down”, “one against one”, “ bare hand against bare hand”, “size and age”. The word coward does not appear in their dictionary…

  5. BTW, the Misses voted the Thai food AAA.

And what type of farang food do they have...English, German, Continental/French and are there any dishes you recommend in particular?

Try the Gammon steak, you won’t regret it. The Thai food must be good as this was the first time she was not complaining…

  6. I can vouch for PJs ( my local ) !! Good food , friendly staff, nice pool if you have kids to keep amused..........

OOPS! The thought of a bunch of squeeling, shouting kids could keep me away. Sorry, but I don't have kids, and do not appreciate that environment while I'm eating lunch. ... Or at any other time, for that matter.

    (Cranky old man!) :o

Never saw any screaming kids there…

  7. “P.J. Pool Bar & Restaurant” just next to Pattaya Hill 2, opposite the flashy motorcycle shop, Soi Kao Noi. Had an outstanding lunch there. Good portions, reasonably priced etc. and the draft Tiger is served just right.

  8. Go for Marble, its cool and the best alterative for the boring tiles. Forget about wood, laminate etc.

Just make sure that you get the right workers. The common “chang” does not know about marble and will land you in a nightmare. Go to a marble shop, who offers the installation, if they don’t go to another shop, it’s that simple.

  9. Hmm, I got myself a parking offence the other day and went to pay my ticket at the beach road police branch. That’s when I spotted one of the black shirts patiently listening at the “the girl did me wrong” story of a seriously drunk falang. Seated on the TG chairs waiting for my driving license I witness one the biggest crap ever… the Black Shirt however did not loose his cool and try to sort things out.

Kudos for this guy and if ever in trouble would surely appreciate their help. They are doing this town a service.

Now to get things strait. They are participating into law enforcement. Do they have a valid work permit? What if something goes wrong in the line of duty, getting hurt or hurting someone else? Do the authorities give them some kind of legal status?

Helping out is nice and appreciated by most of us, however it makes me question how much the authorities themselves appreciate it.

  10. Thanks for the info. I mailed the Thai company and ask them a quotation of their products.

Solar lights don’t have to be that expensive anymore. LED lights and panels are common in other places and available on eBay. The light fixtures are pricy because the structure and shipping them to Thailand would be too much of a hassle.

Would be nice to light up on solar, just a thought.

  11. I was wondering if you could economically install some solar electricity generating panels to feed about 10 outdoor lights. Why is this not used in Thailand, obviously there is no shortage of sunshine.

Noticed that some flashing danger road lights are functioning on solar. Ok they might be placed without much logic but they are working. What’s the problem with solar here?

  12. I need some help… My dad is here with a 2 month tourist visa issued by the Thai embassy in Europe. He enjoys it here so much that he would like to stay another 2 months. Can he just travel to Cambodia or Laos cross the border and get himself a visa for another 2 months? What are the documents required?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

He can go to Immigration and get a 30 day extension 1,900 Baht.

He can cross a border and come back and get 15 days.

He can go to a Thai Consulate in a neighbouring country and get another Tourist Visa.

    Thanks,

He's got a visa till 4/2 but likes to stay till 10/3. Is it possible to get te 30 days and then cross a border for another 15 days? I really appreciate your help.

  14. Yesterday got my yellow shirt on as I’m used to do for years.

Then ended up in a restaurant full of red shirts…. We felt a bit uncomfortable and the change of attitude surprised me. Evil…

My 2 cents. Don’t get involved with any of them. They are going to get nasty in a matter of seconds.

  15. Saw some big planes flying over my place yesterday evening. They must have been on their way to U Ta Pao.

Just wonder how safe this whole mess is for air traffick. Is it fair to say that all this planes circling around low on fuel with an “occupied” control tower and frantically rerouting pilots is not the safest environment to operate in?

Any professional comments on this are most welcome.

  16. Oh well… it was just in jest.

If anybody can give me a contact of a guy that does decent tiling without any headache or management at 300thb/day, we will all appreciate that.

I'm not in building but guess that this comes to hmmmmmmm 10/m².

Not a big deal. It was just that I find it difficult to find decent workers to do some small jobs left and right.

I need some carpenter or woodworker to help me decorate a wall. Does anybody know one? I don't mind pay a little more than daily wages. However it has to be hassle free concerning tools, transportation etc.

Your dog is always welcome as QC master…

This really is a very interesting question. All the daily rate workers now seem to be working for 'Mr. I'll only give you a price for the whole job' He wants to quote a silly price for the work then pays the workers, (if they are lucky) a couple of hundred baht a day.

I am lucky in so far as I have workers accommodation and can bring workers from up country and they stay until the job is finished then we put them on a bus and send them home.

During my 300 sq meter drive tiling marathon I had to get Mr. Ten Percent in to do some tiling because my workers had gone home for a few days. Mr. Ten percent drank all the money I gave him for the workers. His workers consisted of three ladies and five guys, the ladies did the grouting and the guys got drunk... They managed to lay 15 meters in two days which all had to be taken up because of badly cut tiles and the dreaded hollow sound underneath.

After two days of them falling over each other and the pile of spoilt tiles grew to two feet high the GF ran them off and we paid transport for our regular workers to come back down from up country. Job finished now :o

I’m not in the construction or real estate business and know next to nothing of tiles. My profession is like many of you far away from bricks and mortar.

Just want to tile that ugly bare concrete corner at the back of my place without to much fuss. Finding someone who wants to take that little 10m² jobs can be a pain.

    Now I need that carpenter…

  18. Hey guys, believe it or not. I had a worker at my place doing some tiling.

Guess what, he did a terrific job, no headache, straightforward. Tiling seems to be his specialty. First time this happened to me…

Labor and cement is charged 250 thb/m² lay on bare concrete. You have to buy tiles, grouting and plastic boarding yourself.

He’s name is Chang Bum 0845673809. His limbo is strictly Thai.

Neither the Misses nor I are in any way associated with him, just a jest for someone who did something good for us and maybe you need one.

  19. I don’t really see the benefit of having drinkable water at every faucet in the house. We are talking large equipment here that will take up considerable space, require maintenance and will cost you a small fortune. You don’t want to drink from every tap do you?

Ha, keep it simple in LOS. I installed a filter with a storage tank that does job just fine. Unless planning your own brewery and need a huge amount of pure water :o
