  1. Update on the original post…

I have been to four different banks in two different cities and have had no problem exchanging the old bills. In one bank they checked them under ultraviolet light, the others just did the usual "copy the passport", etc.

To sum up: ALL legit banks that I visited exchanged my old US$100 bills for thai baht. The old bills I possessed were in good condition: no rips, no tears, fairly fresh and unwrinkled. It seems to be only non-bank exchange companies like SuperRich won't accept them.

  2. A couple of days ago I went to Superich in Nonthaburi and tried to change US$100 bills. I gave them the older ones that look like the new one but without security features https://abcnews.go.com/US/fullpage/meet-100-bill-20508631 … They refused to change it and said no bank in Thailand will change them. So, I gave them new ones that I had and everything proceeded normally. I then went to a regular bank with the old bills expecting to be refused again, but happily got exchanged without any problem. So has anyone else had this problem with old US bills? Old and new pictured below.Usdollar100front.jpg

  3. Regarding the use of pepper spray in Thailand wikipedia (which isn't necessarily flawless) says:

Usage for self-defense is legal, and it is freely available in stores.

    • Possession in a public place can be punished by confiscation and a fine.

So if you use it in a private space — like when dogs invade your turf — it should be ok.

  4. I find it really helps calm the digestion when things are gurgling. Also I've had a couple of gall stones attacks which apple cider vinegar quickly halted. Some use it as prevention for gall stone attacks. I expect regular vinegar would do the same but prefer my stuff as unprocessed as possible (not to mention it is way better tasting). There's lots of reading to be done both skeptical and fanatical on many a forum… try http://www.curezone.org

  5. Hmm, I've been looking hard for the Bragg's at the places mentioned… are they kept in a different location in-store than the Healthy Mate's?

I just noticed a new batch of Healthy Mate's came in at the Tops Airport Plaza and they are much clearer with hardly any "mother". Very different from the Healthy Mate's I bought one month ago.

    Kasem's I haven't tried yet. Will do.

  6. I've been trying to find really good apple cider vinegar like Bragg's. The closest I've found at Rimping and Tops is something called Nature's Best (or something similar) in a glass bottle with a yellow label. The bottle reads "raw" and "unfiltered" but it looks filtered to me - almost as clear as the cheap stuff. So my question is: does anyone know where to buy "the good stuff" - cloudy with all the natural gunk left in.

    Many thanks!

  7. This is in reference to the barbershop mention to be near the Chang Phuak bus station. Sorry had trouble quoting it on my device. Copied and pasted below is the best I can do.

Thanks, it took a little while but I found it.

The shop is on the west side of the intersection on the south side of Chang Phuak Soi 4.

  8. Went to the morning market in Vientiane and got a 2nd-hand razor (cheap Indian goods but with some weight to it) for 20 baht! Also highly-rated 7 o'clock blades for 15 baht. I'm in business again…

  9. Looking for double-edged safety razors and refill blades in BKK. Any suggestions? I am not necessarily looking for a luxury item just something to replaced one I gave away. Cheers!

  10. Anyone know where I can buy a good carbon filter mask in Bangkok? Not the big plastic type with replaceable cartridges but a disposable type like this 3M one.

They are sold in a pharmacy at Tae Phae gate in Chiang Mai but not in any pharmacy I've tried in BKK.

    Thanks

  11. I was planning on getting an Indian visa while in Chiang Mai (here now), but the consul is being so difficult about it that I think I'll go to Bangkok to apply.

    - "We don't like those who aren't residents of Thailand applying for visas here, they should do it in their own country."

    - "We need a signed letter (hard copy) from the place you will be staying confirming such."

    - "if you are talking to Tibetans while in India you may be suspected of spying."
