I have now moved over to Jakarta for a while (work), so am still looking at how to really play. Never did master the chanter, but still live in hope!
To all those who don't appreciate the sweet melodic sound of the pipes, you must need your ears seeing to!

:cheesy:
Well he did ask!

Place an open can of your favourite beer firmly up the rear end of a large chicken, wrap wingtips and leg ends with tinfoil, then stand on a low/medium heat barbecue for 45-60 minutes.
Delicious Beer Barbecue!

There IS a drug problem in Pattaya, and it IS a big problem. YaBa (Meta Amphetamine) is rife, and the dealers are targeting all types of people, including school kids. They know that the 'Luk Krueng' kids have access to money, so they are prime targets.
If there are people trying to help put a stop to the dealers, then my hat is off to them. They will have one hel_l of a battle though considering the levels of corruption in Thailand.
I just hope that they can succeed.

King Solomon's judgement over the two mothers claiming a baby to be theirs comes to mind here.
In that story the 'wrong' mother was willing to have the baby cut in half to get her way.

I think that Thailand wants to get rid of what it sees as the riff raff falangs. Those who cannot be bothered or just cannot get the right visa. If you have a legitimate visa there is no problem in staying here.

The army will not get involved in the situation
I guess PAD has the army's vote.

Thanks for the replies. What would be required to get a work permit then, and keep the non immigrant "O" visa?

If you have a current Non Immigrant "O" visa, but can get a job in Thailand, is there any difficulty getting a new multiple entry Non Immigrant "B" visa? What else would be required after getting the "B" visa?
Also is Singapore a good place to go and apply for the Visa?
-
I got a one year multiple entry, non immigrant O visa from Houston just recently. I did have to get my marriage certificate translated, but once done, the visa was issued within a day.
The people in the consulate are very helpful, and as long as the paperwork is in order, will issue the visa without any problem. There is no requirement to show how much you have in a Thai bank, and once you have the marriage certificate translated, you can use it every year.
I know that I will go back there if I am in Houston again.

Thanks Beardog, that's just the info I need!

Does anyone know where the best pharmacy is in Pattaya, where Silymarin can be bought? And what the address is if there is a place.
Thanks!

After just flying out of the new airport, and then coming back in, I find I am not impressed.
Some of the reasons:
1. Lack of organisation
2. Immigration slower than Don Muang
3. Long wait for baggage
4. Difficult to navigate
5. Hard to get taxis
6. A long way to walk to get flights and come back to immigration
7. (For smokers) minuscule smoking rooms
8. Stupid (Western) spelling of the name which leads to mis-pronunciation
I travelled out on the 26th when the airport was not ready, and flew back in on the 28th when it opened but was still not ready.
Would be interested to see what others have to say.

The message is clear
FARANG GO HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And take all the money you bring into Thailand with you!

It seems that these bombings may have been targeted- yet again- against the army.
fruittbatt, I think you have been eating the wrong kind of fruit!
Multiple banks, including islamic banks, both inside and at atms. Once again this is the random terror tactic that is used by islamic fundamentalists to instill general fear.
I suppose if they targeted the markets you would suggest that it is the army wives shopping day.

Use this program to check your email before downloading it into your computer. I use it and have NEVER had a virus through email.
I also use the AVG anti-virus, and also AdAware. So far, touch-wood, my machine has stayed virus free.
But rule number one. Never open email with attachments from people you don't know.

Pattaya can be good for families. Try not to live in downtown Pattaya, rather look for a place East of Sukhumvit. Some good international schools around, but avoid Regents as it is way overpriced for what it is. St Andrews is good, probably the best.
Have a look at Mabprachan area, a couple of nice lakeside restaurants, and Horseshoe point is quite good to take the kid.
Get a Thai driving license and show that when ever you go to the places that want to charge farang prices.

Just a bit more insular Thai paranoia.
The whole world wants to buy Thailand out from under their feet, if that was to happen, where could they drink lao kao?

Happy Kids used to have an ad in the pattaya mail, but haven't seen it for a while. Being in Indonesia at the moment, I won't see it for a while longer.
Bagpipers?
