  1. But unlike the original post mortem conducted in Koh Samui, the second inquest confirmed two 'impact marks' on Mr. Attew's head and five puncture marks on his back, penetrating 3 mm into the skin, and also bruising on his back and neck

are they for real !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! , i have seen the picture of when they found the body, and NO WAY is this drowning !, ok he may of had some water in his lungs but how can you explain all the other injuries ! ..... this is truly shocking

i think there mayof been a lot of lost face here, so instead og admiting they where wrong, the police insist on calling this a suscide !, or are being heavily paid off

My idea, they helped him drowning after he got beaten and i would not be surprised if one day he's business is in the hands of .....and the rest you can probably guess!

    poor guy!

  2. Your title suggest, this is about 50 rai of farmland with a property on it.

Or is it about the property with extra 50 rai of farmland.

50 rai is quite a big peace of land, but can only 50 rai of farmland generate a monthly income of roughly 150.000-200.000 baht every month of the year after all expenses and workers are paid. Don't forget the taxman.

An business investment of 11.000.000 baht for land and house, should be paid back to the bank (or investor) within 10 years, otherwise it is not a smart investment.

If you use any mortgage calculator of any bank and with a modest interest rate of 5-6 %, roughly the monthly payback on property and land is 120.000-130.000 a month.

Calculate the living expenses of a family on top of this and some reserves for bad times or crops, this farmland should generate a lot of money.

    Which crop(s) are possible ?

Yes it is 50 rai with property on it in the front.

we used to have a dairy farm with 38 milking cows and the land for agriculture,we had a nice income but i have too much problems with my wife and her family who used to work for us (stupid me !)

so i'm moving out of thailand.

    grts,

    luc

  3. Looks nice. Whish you luck.

Does look nice. The one pic reminds me of an ad long ago in the NYT, "Farmer looking for wife with tractor. If interested, please send picture of tractor."

Can I ask - Is the little hill in the back ground 1) on your land? 2) connected to your land? 3) government land?

The hill (not a small one !) is in the background near our land, our land is soboco 4-01 (yellow paper with red eagle)

    grts,

    luc

  4. Did you have any real "farming" activity there ? What type ?

The reason you sell is because it wasn't profitable or are you retiring or leaving Thailand ?

    We had a dairy farm with 38 milking cows a year ago,profit between 40 to 50.000 baht/month

problem was that my wife's family worked for us, and they were too lazy to work, 3 years later the whole business was broken.

reason that i sell the property, too much shit with my wife, I go back to europe.

if you have good workers you can live well from the income, farm + agriculture

    grts,

    luc

  6. QUOTE(cathyy @ 2006-10-07 20:57:46) I bought mine at Verasu in Bangkok. I'm happy with it, as it makes a good loaf and has all the settings I was hoping for. It's a Severin brand, cost about 4000bt.

There's an unusual one for sale here in Korat at The Mall. It does a horizontal style loaf, and has two mixing paddles. I don't know how well it works.

Oh, and you don't need to use prepackaged mixes or even make up your own. You just use a bread machine recipe, toss in the ingrdients, and turn it on. All the ingredients are available here in Korat, so surely are available in Bangkok. My bread machine came with a good number of recipes, I have a cookbook of nothing but bread machine recipes, plus there are many recipes online.

Good to hear -- even if the price is a little steep. I think that's about double what they are in the West.

It's hard to find tasty, healthy and inexpensive bread anywhere in Thailand. Making bread is so much easier with a machine.

Another question: how easy is it to find whole wheat flour? I'm assuming it's in the big stores, but since I wasn't really attuned to the availability of baking ingredients when I there last, I don't really know.

Where is this shop in Korat?

i need whole wheat flour and dark wheat flour.

would be very thankfull if you could give me the address!

    thanks

  7. unfortunately the Thai police or immigration is not that stupid anymore, so it will be more difficult in the future for ppl hiding here.

sorry guys, but I never understood WHY every grandpa who is riding a Harley thinks he is a real Biker now? Just because an over

60y,o. with a 20 y.o, TGF can afford to buy a HD doesnt make him a really Biker like Mr. Verdickt sure is. ThaiImmi doesnt want

these so called ""CLUBS" because some of them are deeply involved in organized crime...got it``?

its a bit too much atm if I see faked vests from Born to be Wild, Hells Angels etc. most of the guys wearing it will get imidiate problems

when a real member of one of these clubs sees it.

btw. I dont judge people after their look (exept they wear suits and have long noses :) ) but Mr. Verdickt doesnt look like a newborn, sry.

Sorry guy's but this goes a bit too far,i know mr Verdickt for 30 years and i can say that this guy is sure not a rapist,a thief or whatever they call him,but he was always a guy who worked hard for his money until the day that he lost his leg in an accident caused by a drunk driver.

the only reason for which he came to Thailand is because he is disabled, no longer able to work, doing what he always did so he came to thailand to enjoy he's life as we all do.

what the real reason for all this is, I do not know now, but he is a man no better or worse than all of us.

something he always said "who gives what he has is worth to be alive "

  8. I am from Saraburi and I used to get my visa and 90 day check ins at Ayutthaya. If I understand this correctly, I now have to go to LOPBURI instead of Ayutthaya.

Does anyone here know where the immigration office in Lopburi is located?

I need to have my visa renewed next month.

    Thanks.

you have to go to lop buri after new-year,in the mean time go to ayutthaya. that's what this people told me.

    what a mess,isn't it?! :)

  9. Airport crackdown shows results

Over 1,000 unlicensed taxis, guides arrested

    post-128-1252462853_thumb.jpg

AIRPORT BATTLES BACK: A special security team at Suvarnabhumi

claims it has arrested 1,155 illegal drivers and tour guides in a month

but admits it has a long way to go to clean up a "serious" situation

    plaguing the airport.

SUVARNABHuMI: -- A special security team at Suvarnabhumi airport has arrested 750 unlicensed taxi and limousine drivers and 405 illegal tour guides in the space of just one month, officials say.

The security team, made up of police, airport security guards and land transport officials, began a crackdown on illegal activities at the airport on July 31 after a flood of complaints from tourists. Airport director Niran Thiranartsin yesterday said illegal taxis were initially targetted, but tour guides operating without permission were included from Aug 9.

Despite the huge number of arrests, a Bangkok Post investigative report on Sunday showed many more illegal operators were continuing to plague the airport.

Mr Niran said the situation remained serious despite the initial success of the security team in tackling the problem.

Illegal operators still needed to be targetted and "we have to keep on seriously enforcing the security measures", he said.

Any leniency now would only cause a setback to Airports of Thailand Plc's renewed attempt to clean up the airport by weeding out illegal operators and corrupt officials.

AoT president Serirat Prasutanond said earlier the gangs which ran the illegal operations had indicated to him in a phone call that they would flood back in once the crackdown lost steam.

The maximum fine that could be imposed on the illegal operators was 1,000 baht. Mr Niran said many of those arrested were repeat offenders and it was necessary to produce factual information to increase the penalties against them.

Besides the special security team, assigned to patrol the airport around the clock, a new airport unit has been set up to deal directly with illegal taxis and tour guides and to support the team's work, Mr Niran said.

The airport was also installing 50 more security cameras in the arrivals hall and in front of the passenger area on the second floor, he said.

But one area where it was difficult to conduct surveillance was around the baggage carousel where porters with clearance passes who work for the airlines could approach passengers to help them with their luggage.

Mr Niran said many of the porters were like "outsourced" workers for the gangs and it was difficult to expose them.

The AoT has been forced to tighten its security measures at the trouble-plagued airport as the gangs had almost free rein there for three years.

However, an AoT source said despite tougher measures, including the planned transfer of staff suspected of being involved in the illegal operations, the gangs would not be easily contained.

"These gangs still do their business as usual," he said.

The AoT needed more cooperation from airport staff at the operating level. But many were found to lack morale and appeared uninterested in the problem because it was supposed to be the responsibility of the special security team, he said.

  10. Department of Internal Trade has market reports,

but since May have been updated only twice,

    it is now Mid August

What good is 21 July data on 17 August?

They previously were updated every day,

even if nothing changed in the market

    http://www.dit.go.th/diteng/image/hi_4_50.jpg

    Similar reports

    http://www.dit.go.th/diteng/image/hi_1_50.jpg

    http://www.dit.go.th/diteng/image/hi_5_50.jpg

The best way is still to visit the local granary and ask what they are paying.

They have a market report system that I'd love to join.

If anyone can provide the link, please inform.

By way of personal opinion and experience

For all the bad press the Thai Chinese in the grain business receive,

in my area they are the backbone of everything that happens

They know their business by the numbers,

they know their grain by a look in the bag,

    a handful to feel,

    followed by an inspection tray,

then put it in the moisture meter....

    leading to a Class 1, 2, 3 or 4

and a moisture percentage with 14.5 the target

and from those two judgments, a price on their daily chart.

Without their considerable services the grain would rot on the side of the road.

Yes, they are tough businessmen, who take a considerable margin

BUT when I emulated them on a small scale,

I made some mistakes which show me you MUST be tough in this business.

Someone in the business of handling grain must have tough standards,

with the rapid decision capacity to price less than perfect grain

because the next load of different quality is standing in line.

During corn harvest, the big granary in Mae Sot probably takes in 5,000 tons a day

    And it all happens smoothly.

The difficulty for us newcomers, they don't like their margin threatened.

    Why would they?

They are as tough on this point as any other that effects their business.

There are a couple of interesting things which effect the Thailand grain market.

I will mention Corn since I am familiar with it.

According to DIT, Feedmills are selling Corn at B6.32 / kg on 21 July

    http://www.dit.go.th/diteng/image/hi_4_50.jpg

The Silo Buying Price will probably come back at less than B5.00

There is usually about B1.50 spread between Silo Buy and Feedmill Sell

Don't panic if you see a granary billboard posted price around B3.50.

That number is for field damp corn still on the Cob...around 30% total shrink required

    3.50 / 0.70 => 5.00

World Commodity price is $3.16 / 56 lb bushel SEP 2009 Future

    http://www.cmegroup.com/trading/commoditie...lseed/corn.html

Converting to numbers we can use B4.22 / kg

If indeed Silos pay B5.00, then the Thailand Price is 5.00/4.22 => 1.18

    18% over World Commodity Price.

Thailand Prices typically run 30% higher than World Commodity

Corn reserves in Thailand appear to be large.

So that prices on 2008 Corn will probably fall through the floor

with the start of 2009 harvest of bright fresh Corn in a few weeks.

The factor which further destabilizes the Corn market,

Government subsidy in response to Farmer protest

in 2008 paying B8.50 for the same corn that the open market paid B6.00ish

While the World Commodity was 30ish% below B6.00

Two complete price scales on the same day at the same granary,

depending on whether you have a contract letter to sell your 30 tons grain to the government.

The catch was, at B6.00 we were paid in 3 days.

At 8.50 those farmers were not paid until 5 months later.

The unrealistically high prices in Thailand caused Burma corn to flood over,

pushed by Rangoon buyers who failed to buy from their own farmers

    significantly expanding Thailand's apparent harvest.

The Government then locked down the border highway to halt Burma Corn.

No Corn was allowed to move, not even my legitimate corn.

Later they allowed it to move by special letter

signed by Tambon officials with each shipment.

Then they restricted shipments between provinces,

so that Corn in Tak could not leave even to Kamphaeng Phet

without a lot more paperwork to verify it was Thailand Corn.

You can imagine the clarity by which loose Corn in a truck reveals its origin?

This pinched the Granaries...they threatened to park their idle trucks in the highway

and the restriction was eventually stopped.

Government bought Corn at B8.50, then added Storage fees and Freight,

so that by the time their Corn reaches market, they need to receive B10

When the domestic market was B6 and the world market was B4.50

    Recipe for failure right?

Now the domestic and world market have fallen further,

so the Government never did sell their B10 Corn,

or they may have sold some at a severe loss.

Government has already opened 2009 Farm Contract letters at B8.50 on 250,000 tons.

I think after this year, two severe beatings back to back,

Government will want to rethink this outlandish subsidy thing.

Perhaps it is smart if northern farmers just didn't raise Corn at all.

Thailand can then buy Corn on a boat for 30% less.

    One more important market consideration.

On 16 July 2008 the Corn Price was B12.02 / kg, highest ever.

World commodity price was over $7 / bushel

A year later both prices are under 1/2.

The 2009 Harvest has not yet begun.

See the picture? Corn is going to CRASH.

It's a good time to raise pigs, chickens, cows, fish, goats,

...Anything that will eat dirt cheap Corn...and a lot of it.

There is a very special disdain for guys who make wrong market forecasts.

So if I turn up wrong at the end of 2009,

    I will say in advance,

No one will be more pleased than myself.

What does a Corn farmer do then?

Soybean has exactly the opposite market conditions.

It is imported to Thailand after a modest domestic production is consumed.

That is, Thailand never produces enough,

and government requires that all domestic production be purchased first.

World supply is tight rather than glutted

Price levels are not anywhere near the Summer 2008 boom,

but they are adequate, forecast a good bit higher in late 2009.

    Furthermore,

Soybean fixes Nitrogen in the soil,

has 1/3 the harvest weight as Corn i.e. Less Freight cost

and greatly contributes to animal nutrition,

    translating into affordable meat.

thanks alot for this information, maybe not a bad idea to grow soybeans next time, good for our cows and good for the land and probably a better profit

but can you give me some more information about soybeans because we never did that before and i'm only into farmerbusiness for the last two years, like what kind of soybean to grow, how long till harvesting, does it needs alot water, what fertilizer to use,and most important...what is the most regular price of soybean?

we have 40 rai with complete water irrigation so water is no problem

would be very pleased if you could provide us this information.

    thanks alot in advance friends,

    luc :)

  11. hi guys,on what website can i see the dayly marketprices from sweetcorn, animalcorn etc...here

in thailand, the price what we get for our corn that we sell.

we grow sweetcorn and animalcorn but i want to sell it direct to tallatthai instead of bringing

in to these chinese companies here like all thai farmers do because i think they make the most profit

    on our sweat.

    :)

    thanks!

    luc

  12. The rice industry in Thailand has been in the hands of the Thai/Chinese for generations. This is well documented. is this what they mean by foreigners? Surely not!

well said, but it's not only the rice industry, they have taking over the whole country, the whole goverment is nearly chinees

so i guess its more chinese foreigners who are jealous to the western ones.

i think that very soon we will live in china nr2 instead of thailand....amen!! :)

  13. hello guys

we are a new import & export business,we got a message from africa for a big order of organic compound.

we have send them all the documents like invoice etc.,but now they ask us to visit their country (africa) to sigh a registration form and the cost are for us (8.350 USD administration costs) but they can not garantee that we will get this contract because their office gonna choose "who will win the contract"????,because there are more foreigh suppliers and they will choose one by end of the month.

so if we don't get the contract we will simply loose a lot of money + costs for the flight etc ?

can someone tell me if this is the normal procedure because it all looks very strange to me and very illogical.

    thanks in advance

    luc

i think you better have a look at this website,www.pd-im-export-thailand.com

we use this product also on our plantations (animal corn) and we have way better results than with other fertilizers, and it's organic too,no chemicals!

    and cheeper!
