  1. Personally I'm going, it looks great! Went up there yesterday to check the place out ... it does look like it might p*ss a few 'non party people' off a bit though. I'll be taking bets on it making it through until sunrise if anyone's interested :o

was it busy just curious, also how much to get in, i heard 1000 baht but cannot beleive that. i cettainly heard it all night but thankfully plenty of spare houses, i would just like to get some idea if it looks like being a regular event.

  2. not very often i think well of BA but have to give credit on this one, i booked my visa run flying from Samui to Phuket, Phuket to Singapore with Tiger Airways then back to Samui with BA. each stop over allowed 2 hours for connection, when i went to check in for the flight to phuket i was informed the flight was delayed by 4 hours, this meant i missed the flight to Singapore. i explained to the check in lady, she immeaditly said not to worry they would fly me upto BKK then pay for me to fly to Singapore with another airline. she told me to have a seat whilst she spoke to her supervisor. after about 15 mins they said i could fly to Singapore with them and return on same flight, after clearing Immigration and not to worry as ground staff would assist in Singapore. they put me on the front row when we arrived in Singapore there was a guy waiting on the air bridge to tell me what to do, when i got to check in the supervisor had my ticket in her hand ready and i was back on the plane 35 mins after landing. whole trip done in just under 4 hours.

    well done bangkok Airways.

  3. Pah!!! Just seen the video.... is that it!!! Its a bloody hoola hoop these guys are jumping through with a poxy flame around it. This is hardly hardcore thrill seeking. What are some of you guys so concerned about? Its nothing.

What next? A video posted showing some floppy haired guy from Sweeden doing a bungy jump at Chweng Lake, followed by comments of 'the youth of today' and 'i bet he rides his bike without a helmet'.

To be honest, i was more impressed with the way they all managed to jump, and land with a ninja like forward roll. Someone earlier mentioned a beer belly.... my beer belly would certainly not alow me to land in such a ninja like fashion. I would prolly just belly flop on the sand.

But the actual 'ring of fire' name makes it sound way more dangerous than it is. Its nothing.

For a real thrill seeking, toe curling ring of fire, get yourself down to any of the the Indian restaurants in Chaweng and ask for a special Chicken Phall Curry. Guaranteed ring of fire which requires you to place the toilet paper in the freezer before you go to bed.

must admit i was impressed how they all managed to perfect that dive and forward roll, for me to would be a belly flop the other side

  4. Nice rant tax, but the "innocent bystanders" in these cases are the ones choosing to jump through a ring of fire. I see it all the time, burned hair, eyebrows, etc. And in every single case the person who jumped through the ring of fire thought it was great fun and voluntarily chose to do so.

Suggest you find something else to rant on next time tax, your rant doesn't really fit the bill this time :o

would you also condone these people if they choose to ride a motorbike in same druken state, or would you not advice them they may injure themselves.

What are you talking about? What comparison is there? What people do in a private function is up to them, being bungee jumping, base jumping or going through a fire hoop. They do not endanger the public .It's their choice.

Riding a motorbike drunk has nothing to do with it.

    .

private function, there was me thinking it was a commercial event, its called common sence i would just try and talk anybody out of doing something that may injure them whilst under the infuence of drink and drugs.

i think you will find most bungees and base jumping events would not allow drunks to participate.

p.s i was not talking about anything, mearly WRITING an opinion

  6. Emp. I think the documentary is about sex tourism per sa, as opposed to sex slaves in dodgy brothels.

Don't kid yourself Jim, the vast majority of these girls are slaves in one way or another.

The idea that these girls for the most part enjoy their profession and partake of it out of a clear and informed choice is merely a myth perpetrated by the men who use their services to feel better about themselves.

been here for 7 years, managed a go go bar for sometime, married ex bar girl, i say they enjoy the life not all but most. even when they have a farang sending them more than enough money to quit each month they carry on why, well in the village they are tied to there kids. no smoking no drinking and only drunken bums for boy friends. here they can drink smoke earn loads of money with sex thrown in. in my opinion the slave factor is a myth. i had some girls with several boy friends sending them oney as much as 50,000 per month. did they go home no way only as far as BKK airport. what i could never get my head around was most of them had a Thai boyfriend to go home to. most of the time it is consenting adults

  7. i have just taken out TV (Thai visa) insurance price was very good and covers hospitals in Samui. would be interested in others users comments on it, i think it is relative to OPs question as well. hope its seen that way anyway

  8. I'm a lurker who registered to register his indignation that so many ex-pats (mostly British) deride Thailand for taking measures to ensure full participation in a democratic election.

    Mexico does the same thing.

Some local jurisdictions in US do.

You Brits probably could have avoided the troubles if the Irish hadn't been drunk and missed the chance to particpate in UK governance.

Get yourself a new hobby. Find some real friends whose company you can bear without alcohol. Or just continue to rant about your loneliness on this forum.

But please be respectful of the Thai people. Or go home.

the Thai people voted democratically for taskin they were not respected by the Junta. who do suggest we respect the guys who voted or the guys with the guns. i guess if do not like what the Burma goverment does we should shut up and respect there laws. i also think you reference to the Irish is offensive

  9. We all like free will and choices but there are times when one's choices are limited, for whatever reasons, so just make do like the rest of us. And if one NEEDS alcohol to be able to socialise then one should take a closer look at one's self rather than the ban.

sighhh :o another poster who is offering psychological advice... nothing to do with the MAJOR point of this thread but what the hay with advice like that how could I not take a closer look at myself. loquito tens of thousands of people come to Thailand because they are UNABLE to socialise in there own country, they are to ugly, shy , fat, old etc etc etc or just don't have a clue about current affairs like your self. Alcohol has its place and many unwind after a long hard week of actually work. "there are times when one's choices are limited, for whatever reasons, so just make do like the rest of us" wrong loquito the rest of us are here questioning our rights. stick your head in the sand if you want but dont do it here please

The rest of us, as in the Thais. Why should there be exceptions just for expats or tourists? I lived in England for 12 years and and never once did they open a pub past the closing time of 11 pm because me, an expat, wanted to drink past 11 pm.

The MAJOR point of this thread is alcohol won't be served on those days. Tough. Live with it!

i would bet you anything you like lots of alchohol will be served on these days mainly to Thais and expats. i for a fact will have no problem BUYING alchol. had you gone to tourist areas in your 12 years you would have been able to drink after 11 no problem. still England is a democracy, it would do this country the world of good if no tourist came here for 1 year. Taken for granted for far to long.it must make you proud to think you can not have a general election without stopping adults drinking. makes the country a laughing stock of the world. My Thai fiends who have bars will loose thousands this month because of this.

still as i say i will be having a beer tomorrow night with all my mates who now have a couple of nights extra holiday. CHEERS
